Thinking of booking cat.6 any thoughts?

We are goping on our first Disney cruise next summer. We have two small children under 8 and we are thinking of booking cat. 6 does anyone have any thoughts about this cat. we would really would like to have a balcony. The price they quoted me was a liitle high over $6,000 for the week. We live in Fla and go to WDW every two months and always stay on property usually WL but always get a great rate.
IS cat 6 worth this price? I am hoping the price will go down.

I've been in a 5 and a 6. Both are exactly the same. We enjoyed the cabins. If going on a 7 day cruise I would highly recommend the 6. We went on a 4 day last Month and booked a cat 8 with the porthole. To me the porthole is ok for the shorter cruises, but I would book a 6 for the 7 day.

We have been on the 4 day and the 7 day Eastern and in a Category 6 both times.The verandah is a must for us. Its a great place for a morning cup of coffee or some down time before heading out for dinner. My DDs are 11 and12 now but they were 7 and 8 on the first cruise. we are planning on doing the Western next June and booking a Category 6. I say Go for It!!

I doubt we'll ever be in anything lower than a cat 6! We love having the verandah....ESPECIALLY because of the kids! They crash at night and dh and I can be out there, but accessible. In the morning, we get up and head right out there for awhile before the kids are even awake.

Maybe when the kids are grown up we can do without a verandah....and be able to take advantage of the deck 7 aft area. But now, having the verandah right there off of our room is WONDERFUL!

Btw, make sure you get the first time cruiser stateroom credit (I think it's $50) We didn't know about it until AFTER our first cruise!

I hope we will always be able to cruise at a Cat 6 level! In the evenings, we let our DS 6 fall asleep watching movies in his bed while we enjoy wine on the balcony (we brought several bottles with us to do just that). Its so magical to be sitting out there watching the ocean go by.

Also, in St. Thomas, we tendered out in the bay and our cabin faced the city. DS fell asleep in the afternoon (getting up early for the immigration wiped him out). DH and I sat on the balcony wathcing the sea planes and boats for a couple of hours. I was so beautiful!

Cat 6 is great!! We loved having the verandah on our 4 day, and have a cat. 6 booked for our 7 day next year.

I don't know about the price going down. They do have specials for Florida residents, but they seem to be in the off times, like January and September. Probably the reason the price is so high is because it's summer. DCL is always more expensive when school is out, because it's popular with families. Our cat 6 for 4 people in late April 2004 is ~3600, but that's 2 adults, a child & an infant (a little less than 2 children). That week is between the holidays & when schools let out.

Category 6s are great. It was really nice when our 1 year old was napping and we could sit out on the verandah. We loved ours and booked again for next May. If you want a cheaper cruise you need to book far in advance. I booked 18 months out to get an awesome rate. Also, try several travel agencies to see who could get the best price.

For all the above reasons, and one very good one that we learned about ------ if you are feeling ill or just want to get away from the crowd, your private verandah is worth it.

We saw a far of storm at sea one night and the light show was fantastic.

Go to www.allseastravel.com and click on FL Resident rates. That site lists rates for most categories and will show what the going FL rate is for this summer. Then you may reserve your space and hope that the discounts will be made available for your sailing next summer. Both DU and All Seasons will apply the savings to a current reservation.

You're all making me regret the CAT11 we have for our 4-day this December. We've always had a CAT5 (past two cruises) and thought we'd try to save money since we'll be in a CAT6 next May.

So, my question is: Do you think I'll really regret not having that verandah for this 4-day?

As someone said, for the 3-4 day, a outside porthole is ok, but the verandah is a MUST for the 7 day, because you will have 2 days at sea, and it is great for coffee in the am, watching dolphins at night, seeing all the weather outside, etc.

I know! That's why I'm getting so nervous about not having a verandah this coming December. We've never cruised without one and this will be a new experience. I think I'm going to hold out to see if they have any super cheap last minute deals at port checkin for an upgrade to a 5 or 6.

We are really determined to try something new with this Cat11. We love the verandah and spend a lot of time out there during the cruise. We especially love being out there first thing in the morning and late at night. It's so romantic!

For your upcoming cruise, try the 11. Since it's a 4-night, you guys can always snuggle on the deck 8 mini-verandah.

You know, it's too bad we can't have both wealth AND looks - well, in my case I'd settle for either...

If I had it to do over, I would not have booked our first cruise with a veranda. We did a 7 day Eastern last October (low seson), category 6. DD was in 6th grade, and we have decided that future cruises will have to be booked so that she doesn't miss more than a couple of days of school. So we're now looking at a Thanksgiving '04 cruise. We bought enough DVC points to cruise every other year (I thought), but we still don't have enough to get another category 6 on that cruise! So I floated the idea of trying for a secret porthole room, category 11. Both DH and DD12 had a fit. I know DH, the early riser, really enjoyed the veranda on our cruise. But DD was either asleep or in the Lab! Anyhow, they're completely spoiled. I do have a point here somewhere. You might want to start with a lower category and work your way up. Diana
