Thinking of applying to a private prep-school.

I'm sick of my school. Sick and tired. The administrators want an 85% graduation rate by 2013. In doing so, they are constantly catering to the lowest, ie. the kids that always are in trouble. These awful kids aren't getting expelled or suspended, if they do they still come to school for a shorter amount of time in a seperate room. So much of the budget is poured into Alternative Education for these kids who frankly don't give a damn about school at all. Guidance counsellors are too busy having meetings for these kids to actually help the normal students with college applications, amongst other things. And budget cuts could cause our school to drop the IB program.

I want a good education. I'm not getting it where I am. My school is a crap-shoot. I want to go to a place with committed students, immersive courses, and an altogether better school campus.

Do any of you attend a private boarding prep school? Please fill me in on pros/cons, if you wish. Thank you.

I go to a private school, and its more challenging to kids than any regular public school. I don't go to any boarding school or anything like that though.

I say do it. If you really can't stand it, do it.
I wouldn't have the patience either. I was actually just thinking about this topic today. I'd love to, but my parents can't afford it.

My high school was a lot like that (public) an advantage though is I graduated top 10 in my class with not that spectacular of a GPA. Like at any private school it would have been "average" That looks really good on college applications. I am doing well in college now (4.0 last semester) so I was prepared enough to do well on my own. What year are you? If you are already a junior/senior I wouldn't. Senior, well you only have a few months left stick it out. Junior, you are just going to be applying to colleges in the fall anyways. They won't even be looking at your senior year grades when you apply, just your schedule. It would just be freshman/sophomore/junior grades. So by the time you got into private school would it be worth the money, stress of harder classes/curriculum. If you were a freshman now, or even a sophomore its worth looking into for your junior/senior year, junior year is the most important for colleges.

I've never been to a private school. But I know a lot of people who do go and hate it, and some that love it. I guess it's just how you like things run or how you like to do something. I say you do it though(:

i agree. cuz my brother went to a private school, and hated it. i go to a public school, and i hate it. i guess it just depends on the person.

I say you should apply. Doesn't sound like your able to reach your full Potential at the school your at. :)

i used to go to a private school.

its seriously one of the best decisions you will make. it got me into such a good secondary school!

my school is one of the top schools in the country.

I go to a public school, but it's one of the best schools in the country (academically speaking). The counselors here are ALL about college apps and stuff for juinors and seniors. If you're really that sick of your school, I say go for it.

i go to private school, and they seriously about your grades. they want you to the best, and make sure everyone is doing it. my school has a very strict no toloerance policy. you mess up, your out.

My school is terrible...it was good my freshmen and sophomore year and then went down hill. We lost a principal that actually cared for us...and now we have one who doesnt care at all and all he wants is food and money. It really all depends on the school. Some private schools are like public schools.

eh my private school was terrible. I HATED it. So I switched to public school, and I now love it.

Thanks for the advice. I'm a freshman, by the way.

I'm going to look into it, visit the school, and apply. I figure that I have a chance, and even if I don't get in anywhere I'll still have a better understanding of what the application process is like for college.

I'm a freshman and I started going to private school this year. And let me say, the first 2 months it was horrible on me. They do have higher expectations, but the grade limits are wider. Back in my public school 99-100 was and A+, but at my school now it's 94-100 so I guess it's somewhat easier to get better grades. But now, I love my school. It just takes some getting used to.
