I would like to rent points at BCV for the week before Christmas. However, my mom is sick and I would like to know what happens if, as we get closer to Christmas, she gets worse and I'm not able to take the trip.

Is it possible to cancel the reservation? At how many days out can this be done? What do I lose ($) for cancelling a reservation?

I saw a thread at one time that talked about how to go about renting points and how many points were needed at each of the resorts. Can anyone tell me where that thread is? I can't seem to find it again.

When renting DVC, can I add the dining plan if I purchase tickets through Ticketmania, or would the tickets have to be purchased from Disney?

Thank you

If you make a DVC rental, it's between you and the member who made the reservation. They may not allow any cancellation or refund. Many don't.

You can get the dining plan, just tell the member when you make the reservation with them. They have to notify Member Services prior to your arrival. You will pay for it when you check in.

As for tickets, you purchase your own tickets. Members can't buy tickets for you.

DVC point charts are located at the top of this page.

Finally, if you want the week before Christmas, you need to be talking to a member very soon. If you can't be sure about your trip, your best bet would be to reserve directly through Disney and CRO and forget about renting a reservation from a member.

All rentals would be between yourself and another person as private transactions. Because different people would have different home resorts and use years, their cancellation policies would probably be different.

If you cancel less than 31 days before check-in, the member gets the points back, but with severe restrictions. Thus most who rent may have a no refund policy after a certain time.

You can calculate how many points you'd need by checking out the DVC Point Charts link at the top of this page.

Now, all that said, keep in mind that the 1st few weeks of December are some of the most popular times for DVC members to go to WDW. As a result villas book very quickly, and it may already be tough to get rooms at BCV.

Go to the Rent/Trade board and be sure to read the FAQ's there for more information about renting points.

Good luck on getting Dec is a crowded time for DVC. But watch out on renting, you can get hooked, I did and now own.

We've never rented points either. How would we go about adding an additional 100 points on to what we already have for our use year. We would only need this add on for the coming october, we have family coming down, and we don't have enough points for a 2 bedroom .....any suggestions? and help?? Do we transfer the points does the other memember make the res in our name? but its an add on
Confused

Many ask for half up front and half at 60-90 days. Frequently the half up front is not refundable, at all, and the half that you pay later isn't refundable once its due.

Someone pointed out that renting points is a lot like booking a hotel through Priceline. You'll get a great price, but you shouldn't expect to be able to cancel.

In your case, I wouldn't pursue renting. Your trip is far from certain. And you are probably too late to get BCV during that time. But the BC itself probably has rooms and has good cancellation policies.

As a member, the other member would transfer the points directly into your account and then you would have full control over them. The other member receives payment and then is totally out of the picture. You then make your own reservations using the points in your account which would be your own points plus the transferred points (which are now also your own points).

Go to the Rent/Trade board, READ ALL THE STICKY posts about posting requirements, then do a "Transfer Wanted:" post.

Caskbill already answered your questions, but I just wanted to clarify something. There is a difference between having points transferred to your account and "adding on". What you want to do is pay another member to have some of their points transferred to your account to get the extra points you need for your trip.

"Adding on" is when you purchase an additional contract, either directly from Disney or through a resale broker.

Just wanted to help you with the terminology so that you know what to ask for when you post on the Rent/Trade board.
