Thinking about going Solo to Disneyland

My wife and children just really don't appreciate Disneyland very much and none of them like rides. I took the family last year and it was not fun because nobody wanted to really be there (except me). So, I am considering doing a couple days on my own. I have read a few threads about people doing Disneyland solo, and many have had a good time. However, I am a pretty social person, and I can imagine myself sitting there in Disneyland feeling lousy about wasting so much money and being lonely! Have any of you ever tired going to Disneyland solo and regretted it? I like doing some things by myself, but two days on my own at Disneyland might be pretty lonely. I do love Disneyland though, and I can't wait to go back there again someday. I wish I could "rent" a family for a short period of time that actually likes Disneyland as much as I do :)

There is a whole community of disneyland lovers on an app called mousewait...they do meetups at disneyland all the time, and I'm sure you'd have a ball hanging out with some of them. I only get there about once every three years, but I follow mousewait and they seem like a great group of people, always happy to welcome newcomers.

I'm having the same problem
my hubby and I actually have the same day off on Thrusday and he doesn't want to go, just the two of us!!
We haven't had a date just the two of us in forever
So Jbobst I say you and I meet up at Disneyland on Thursday and have a blast!!

I second this! It seems like there are meetups almost every day, and a lot of the people go solo.

Dude going to DL alone is AWESOME! It's like a dream! I do it all the time. Go get wasted at the lobby bar in the Grand Californian and make friends with the bar staff and the rest of the solo adults!

Hi jbobst! We were on the same cruise in March 2010-Radiance of the Seas. I think we were on the same zipline tour? Anyway, I just went to DL solo for leapday and I had a blast:thumbsup2 I say go for it. Find some people to have some meet ups. I actually njoyed he alone time, but then again I talk to everyone in line!

My family loves DL and we go regularily. But I still wanted to do a solo trip. -I think my desire came from the fact that I tend to be the leader, and as such, on each trip I am putting out much effort making sure that everyone else is happy; gets to do a little bit of what is most important to them. Added to that is the fact that most trips include 8 to 12 people to try to keep happy. I just wanted a little time in which I could do exactly what I wanted to do. Linger if I wanted to linger, and rush through where I wanted. No one to give me the eye for lingering or hold me back from rushing.

I finally went in January. I was a little worried that I might feel lonely or awkward, but I did not. NOT IN THE LEAST. I had a day and a half in the parks and I loved it. I then went on the Lights, Camera, Magic tour and enjoyed that by myself. It will probably be a while, but I can't wait to do it again.

You should go for it.

Though I always travel to DL with a friend, we often split up so we can do our own thing, and I love being on my own. There's a certain appeal to being able to do just what you want to do, when you want to do it.

If you're social, you'll find you can meet some very interesting people while waiting in lines or for shows. If not, bring a book!

I love going alone too. Try it, you might like it!

I went on the "walk in walt's footsteps" tour as a treat. I loved doing exactly what I wanted and when.

If you really think you won't enjoy being alone, try to meet up with other online fans. If you're a social person, you'll likely find people to chat with while standing in line.

We were on the Radiance in 2010 and did the zipline in PV. How did you remember me??? Really enjoyed that cruise! Thanks for the positives about going solo! I think I might just try it!

I would love to meet up, but I can't make it to Anaheim until late Thursday night, and plan to do the parks on Friday and Saturday. Thanks for the invite though! Let me know if you are there on Fri or Sat.

Jbobst, I participated in the roll call for that cruise. I remembered your screen name. We also had a blast on that cruise. It was our 1st. I also have a mind like a steel trap, so I have been told:) Back on topic, going solo is fun and gives you a sense of freedom. I spent the full 24 hours there on leap day and did not get lonely. I would do it again. Have fun:goodvibes

I've gone solo a number of times and I love it. Not just running in after work solo, but I drove down from the bay area booked a hotel and spent 2 days at the park alone. I loved it. I could do everything I wanted and I had a blast. Wish I could do it again sometime soon but that's not gonna happen. Oh and if anyone askes where your family is (I had one young girl ask me why I was sitting alone at the parade) I just said "oh they're on Space Mountain

Thanks for all the positive responses and options. I think I am going to give it a try this weekend (Friday/Saturday/Sunday morning). Now the question is, do I just do the $199 park hopper ticket or do I go all out and get the premium annual passport? The deluxe passport really wouldn't work for me as I would mostly use it on the weekend and holiday weekends when I am off work. I live in AZ, and driving out there really isn't too bad. I just worry that maybe I'll get my fill of Disneyland after this coming weekend and then not use the passport all that much. But, if I simply go to Disneyland at least three weekends this next year, it makes sense to get the passport, especially considering there is free parking and other discounts available. I've always wanted to try the annual passport at least once.

Why not get the park hopper and decide to upgrade or not on the last day? Just make sure if you want to upgrade you do so before the end of your visit. If you feel like you want to come back, get the AP. If not, than you don't have to. I hope you enjoy! :goodvibes

jbobst,
Good to hear that you are going to fly "solo". My family and I have been premium pass holders for some time. I have friends with passes as well and there is always someone to meet up with but I do a "solo" trip at least once a week and it is pure gold. Just taking your time doing and seeing what YOU want. Have a good trip. Aloha ! :thumbsup2

SOLO at DisneyLAND is a FAVORITE of mine! Just start talking Disney. Friends are everywhere! I felt like I was 10 again when I found my Best Friend for a day in the first line! it was great! and a lot magical
A different day I took a Backstage tour by myself - walk through walt's footsteps.
Pin trading helps being social
I was even also for part of the day on valentines day and all the lovebirds did not dampen my mood!!! they took AWESOME pics of me and the castle!

Most of my trips are solo. I really like just doing whatever I want in the moment. I agree with a previous poster, get the 3 day parkhopper (don't those include a Magic Morning?) and then upgrade on the last day if you want to.

Thanks for all the insights as well! I'll be heading out next month (during Easter week unfortunately!) with my son for a college visit. I will spend the first day at DL/DCA with my son but then will have 3 days while he's at the college to explore the parks alone.

To the OP - post a quick review of how it went if you can when you return - I'd love to learn how it went for you. I'm trying to learn things like single rider lines and good places to eat as a single - haven't been to DL in 9 years so it'll be a challenge in itself!

I felt the same as you before my first solo trip to DL.

I never felt lonley because I was to busy!! Going from ride to ride, taking pictures, eating etc.

I had such a great time, I bought an annual pass and now have 3 trips planned with 2 of those being solo (my parents might come with me at Christmas time).

Go and check it out. You don't have to upgrade to an annual pass your first day there. I was there Monday evening to Friday early afternoon and I upgraded Tuesday late afternoon.
