I am thinking about purchasing DVC, but had a few questions.

I am a single mom, any other single parents purchase DVC?

I won't be able to get to WDW until January 2007. When should I consider purchasing?

Thanks,
Ann ::MickeyMo

As soon as you feel you can comfortably afford it. The prices keep going up - If you were to get a use year suc as August this year you would have your points to bank into the next year -so for the period Aug2006-Aug 2007 you would have double the number of points. If you don't think you would need that many for a trip you could rent the first year's points to help pay for your purchase or the maintenance fees that year. Most people will say they just wish they had bought in earlier. I know I do - I got my first contract in 1997 just wish I had done it in 1992 when they sent the first information out. The imporatant thing - single or married is to be certain you can afford the costs and that you understand how the whole thing works. Good luck with you decision.

I think that is a very good way of putting it.

1) investigate and make sure that it's for you. Sometimes that may mean waiting until you are at a certain point in life. DVC was not for me 5 years ago, it is now (my circumstances changed, and I am not referring to my financial situation, although that did change too)

2) be realistic about your finances. Yes, DVC is a great way to lock in future vacations, but not if you end up paying hefty financing and/or interest that you can't afford

3) consider a smaller resale contract vs the minimum 150 buying direct from DVC. That's what I did, because I couldn't see myself using 150 points every year.

4) remember you can add on later, but realize that the cost will continue to rise. I plan to add on about 25-50 in the next few months but since I really don't think that I need a huge contract, that's all I plan to do for now

You will get great information here, and advice from people of all backgrounds and situations.

Best of luck! :goodvibes

Yes- I'm a single mom too and though I doubt if we're the majority of purchasers, I know that there are many single parents that love Disney and DVC too. One thing that I was asked to include for financing was proof of child support (if you count that as income). Best of luck :)

I thought I'd be good to go with the 40 point contract I intially bought. However, before I was even closed on that one and in the system, I was already looking at adding on because of more trips in the plans, etc... 110 point add-on later and now I'm at 150... :confused3

And who knows, if VCR or VAK come true... I might even get more points... :rolleyes1

Well, that's because you caught the evil addonitis bug! Hopefully I only have a mild case......

Sorry for the interuption, but I have to say you could use 150 points in a month, Bavaria ;)

I also have the addonitis going. LOL. It is addicting.

Wow..thanks for all the replies. I have ordered the DVC information video from Disney and look forward to learning more.

Best of luck Ann! You could also think about renting points for a few trips to see if it's for you. There are lots of threads here that should help with information on how DVC works.

But seriously, do try and avoid the evil addonitis bug. I stumbled across a post from Vascubaguy yesterday saying that he planned to add on 'possibly next year' and as you can see, the bug bit him and he already added on!! :rotfl:

I haven't used a single point yet and am having trouble avoiding the bug too!

Good luck on yor decision. Welcome to the DIS. :Pinkbounc
