Thinking about buying into DVC

On the 11/7 thing....

buy where you won't be disappointed if you end up. I can't imagine being overwhelmed with disappointment anywhere on WDW property.

It depends how far in advance you can plan - if you don't plan more than seven months out, home resort isn't important at all.

It depends on how much work and "anxiety" you want to put into switching. There is a member here who owns OKW because of the lower dues, but loves BCVs. She's never had a problem switching. Me, on the other hand, would spend five months adding to the stress in my life wondering "what if the room isn't available." Waitlisting I have no patience for. And having to make the "switching" phone calls - particularly if its day by day at seven months, is too much work for a vacation!

Really your only issues switching will be if there are enough robinb's out there who bought a specific resort for a specific vacation (this is true occationally now of standard view BWV rooms over F&W and VWL over the holidays) that the wait list can kick in BEFORE the seven month window. We got one of the last SV rooms over F&W fest next year calling in November for January reservations - waiting a week would have put us on the wait list. Or if circumstances make it difficult to call at seven months. (say you are traveling or really busy and forget).

160 points gets you one week in a one bedroom anywhere in the DVC family of resorts.......in the los seasons of course............

I don't think this is quite accurate. I seem to remember that BCV is definitely 200 points for a week in the lowest point total season, and I think BWV and VWL are the same as well. OKW might be lower than that, but I don't think a 1 BR there can be had for 160 as well.

If you're not willing on going to WDW every year, but say every other year, you might be able to get away with fewer points. You can bank and borrow your points and have up to 3 years worth of points available to you in a given use year. So for instance, if you bought in at 150, you could bank your 150 points from this year to 2006, and then borrow 150 points from year 2007, and have 450 points total for use in UY 2006.

Just something else to think about.

DemoBri1 is correct. 160 only gets you into OKW or HH.

One full week in a 1BR during Adventure Season (lowest season):

BCV: (22 x 5) + (45 x 2) = 200
BWV: (22 x 5) + (45 x 2) = 200 (pref)
VWL: (22 x 5) + (45 x 2) = 200
SSR: (20 x 5) + (41 x 2) = 182
BWV: (16 x 5) + (41 x 2) = 162 (std)
OKW: (16 x 5) + (40 x 2) = 160

VB: (18 x 5) + (43 x 2) = 176
HH: (11 x 5) + 22 + 27 = 104
