Despite the number of trips we've made there are lots of things we've never done; mostly restaurants now I come to think of it.

I'd like to do something 'new' this trip, to save it from being a holographic copy of every other trip.

Go on, persuade me, which of these should I definitely do?

Bit of info: pair of 30-something adults; we like food; we dont' mind spending money if its worth it; we're not particularly bothered about characters (but could be persuaded)

:) Character tea party
:) Character lunch/brunch/dinner at cafe Mickey or similar
:) Silver Spur
:) Lucky Nugget
:) Plaza Gardens
:) Steakhouse in the village
:) Wild West Show
:) Autopia
:) Cars
:) Cinemagique (well, done it once, no recollection)
:) Billy Bobs other than for a beer
:) Panoramagic balloon thing
:) queued up for photo with characters (Mickey/Minnie)
:) Val D'Europe

can't think of anything else - we've done ALL the other rides/attractions, even small world (which, I have to say, I hated!)

go on then, sell me your favourite, why should I do it?

thank you

I want to try the Steakhouse too, the restaurant itself looks lovely as fo some of the food pics :rotfl:

Most people seem to have been to character brunch on the sunday but we will be going for dinner with our half board vouchers!

I'm assuming that if you've never done a character dinner etc, then you've never been to inventions?

If that's the case, then personally, that's the one from your list that I would pick. We had a fantastic meal there last week; there was far too much to choose from (starters, sea food course, main meat course and lots of desserts) for our own good and it's an all you can eat buffet so you get your money's worth ;)

The characters add to it in my opinion, so long as they visit you (we've got a 10 year old, so always get a visit from each character, but I don't know what interaction is like without children - maybe somebody else could answer that). On the other hand, they're not too over powering and don't disrupt your meal - They visit your table, interact for a bit, sign any autograph books you have, pose for photos and then move on.

The character meals are probably the best way to get interaction without having to queue for ages or content with a rugby scrum.

Can you tell I enjoyed Inventions :rotfl:

Personally without children I'd avoid the character tea party like the plague. The Steakhouse in the Village is very good - the Sunday brunch is particularly good value and if you're not bothered about characters they won't bother you. I'd love to try the balloon ride!

I'd give Val d'Europe a miss - just another shopping centre!

I'd give the character tea party a go - the desserts are to die for!!;)

I would have to say go to Cafe Mickey. We loved the food there and the characters were a lovely bonus.......

Does anyone have a price for Cafe Mickey? All I can find is 20+ Euros which isn't very helpfull to me

DLP Food Guide provides a rough guide to the prices, although it may be slightly out of date. It is, however, a full menu with prices from whenever it was recorded.

If it helps we paid around 60 Euros (Maybe more, DF paid for this meal, so I can't really remember...) for: A Mr. Smee Cocktail, 2 Fantas, a garlic cheesebread, Minnie's Carbonara, and Pinnochio Pasta. The portions were huge and delicious.... I know you're really paying for the character interaction, but we would happily go back just for the food!

cap n

they do a set menu too for around 34 euros

:)

Thanks. I'm guessing that's also in place for the Character meal?

I'm thinking of treating the wife and little boy (16 months old) depending on how he interacts/responds to the characters.

We are on quite a tight budget so the costs are really useful to us. I seem to be working out that we need £250 for the 5 days that we are there simply on food!!

yes :)

we ate @ 6.30pm, and while we didnt order off the set menu

but we could have if we wished

food / meals are expensive out there :(
we like to eat well though,so what we save on the travel / accom we spend on nice meals :)

what about the plaza character tea party, as an early evening choice ( 5pm) one day ? some savoury aswell as sweet and much cheaper :)

We did exactly that, and it worked out fine for us as we thought the savoury was plenty for a meal - sausages, jacket potato and cheese, omlettes (our 6 year old ate 3! We hadn't had lunch!) and grilled tomatoes. The cakes were fab too.

We also ate at Cafe Mickey on Friday - Children's meal was 16Euros I think - choice of main course (pasta, pizza, chicken, fish and a couple of others), dessert buffet and I think the kids' meal includes a drink but can't be certain. Adults main courses are between about 18Euros (plain pizza, more to add toppings) and I had a steak that was about 26 Euros (it was my birthday so I justified it by that!). Adult starters and main courses are about 8 - 10 Euros.

My husband had a set menu for 30 Euros (drink not included) which was a choice of starter (garlic mushrooms, soup or something else), main course (steak, fish and chips, pasta, and another dish I can't remember) and dessert (creme brulee or apple pie).

Drinks were 3 - 4 Euros each, or about 7 Euros for cocktails I think.

That would be our choice also. For us an all the better experience than Inventions :)

Fixed price menu is €30 for starter, main course and dessert. Child's is €15/€16.
There is also a full al a carte option :)

I think we might try the tea party thing - is it always at Plaza Gardens? Do I definitely have to book before I go or can I do it at the concierge desk at the DLH?

Autopia - yes, must do this, if only for the 'complete tick list' effect!

Thanks for all this. keep it coming!

Yes I think it's always at the Plaza Gardens. You could probably wait until you're there but it might depend on how long you're there for and whether you're fussy about which day?

We booked ours the week before we left. To be honest I didn't think it seemed all that busy? But I'm sure I've heard people say they treid to book once they arrived and couldn't get in.

All meals at Cafe Mickey are character meals as far as I'm aware........

Thanks, I thought that too but I read in the Thomas Cook brochure that Cafe Mickey is open from 11am to 11pm for lunch/dinner and that the characters are out between 12:15 and 3:30 and then from 6:15 til 10 so I wasn't sure. Think I'll stop reading the brochures and just ask on here as the brochures just confuse me!!

No the characters aren't there all day. I don't know all the times but when I phoned to book lunch the guy told me they finish at 2.30pm (I was originally going to book 2pm but changed it to 1.15pm instead).

We did pass by there quite late once night (probably 10.30pm) and the charatcers were there then.
