Things to take on cruise (iron)

Can anyone tell me if you can take a travel iron on the ship...I had read somewhere on here that the only iron was in the laundry room.....So i was wondering if you could take your own?????

I believe that you are not allowed to take on your own iron, because of the risk of fire. I'm sure that no one would like that to happen on the open water. But, I've heard people say that if you do decide to bring your own iron, make sure that you only use it in the laundry room. Or, the other option is just to have all your clothes pressed at the beginning of the cruise. I've heard that it's only 1/2 of the cleaning cost to get it pressed.

There is an iron in each of the laundry rooms. We've been on the Magic for 12 cruises, and only once have I had to wait to use it!

You are not supposed to bring your own iron on board as they cannot be used in the cabin due to the fire risk.

I usually press all my things the first day before the safety drill (after all the ressies, lunch, etc.) Another alternative is to send it all out to be pressed.

The absolute best thing I had with me on our cruise was an over-the-door shoe holder (clear plastic kind). I placed it on the bathroom door and kept all manner of things in it like: extra film, batteries, keys, sunglasses, medication, hand cream... everything. That way it wasn't piled on every spare surface in the cabin and I could always find what I needed. I'd never go on another cruise without one. Also, if you're in an inside cabin, do yourself a favor and bring a nightlight for the bathroom, cause the cabin is pitch black in the night when you have no window!

What about a small travel clothing steamer? Is that allowed in the rooms? If not, I think the best way to freshen up clothes out of a suitcase is to hang them in the bathroom and take a hot steamy shower with the door to the bathroom closed.

I brought a bottle of wrinkle releaser for our knits and sent out cottons and formal stuff for pressing.

There are no irons allowed in the rooms at all. Needless to say I brought a travel iron on our last cruise. Went into the laundry room to check their iron and used the one provided EVERY nite to iron the next days clothes and NEVER had to wait either. I also brought all my dress clothes on board with me in a bag in a separate suitcase, and had them clean and press it all on board. It was cheaper than my dry cleaner (no kidding) and I didn't have to stress about how I packed it so that it would get wrinkled. Had it back the next day, it was awesome!

I brought a B&D steamer. It was wonderful and handy. In fact it was almost like an iron.

Hopefully, if housekeeping sees a travel iron brought on board, they will report it immediately. My DH was in the Coast Guard and people just do not understand how dangerous a fire on board a ship can be. Why is it there are some people who feel that rules do not apply to them and they bring them anyway? It risks the lives of every passenger on board when they do this.

When it comes to wrinkled clothing while traveling, everyone is in the same boat, literally. There are always alternatives when travelling anywhere, even a cruise, such as hanging them in a steamy shower as one person suggested. I've done this many times on other trips. The ship also apparently provides an iron in the laundrey room and a service so if people wish to have them pressed they can do it in the laundry room or send it out.

I really hope that fellow passengers will be considerate and concerned for the safety of everyone on board and not bring an iron.
