Things to photograph around Houston

I will be in Houston for a few days in April for business. I will be staying on the west side of the city. Is there anything interesting to photograph in that area? I don't plan to rent a car, so I will need to use my feet, a cab or public transportation. I have meetings during the day and will have a few hours each evening to get out and do something. I'm trying to decide if it is worth lugging camera gear through the airport or if I should just travel light and simple this trip.
