Things to do within walking distance (Eastern)?

Are there things to see and do within walking distance from the ship in St. Thomas and St. Maarten? I'd like to shop and check out the beaches are there any close by in these ports or will a taxi be necessary?

In St. Thomas there is a shopping complex right at the pier called Havensight Mall. There are tons of shops there. As far as beaches I believe you would have to get a taxi for that, I don't remember if there are any beaches within walking distance or not.

Lots of stuff to do within walking distance. The Sky Tram is a block and a half from where the Magic docks in St. Thomas. The view is unbelievable.

St. Martin, go to Great Bay Beach at the dock. You do take the water taxi ($5 per person unlimited rides). It's very convenient.

This is one shot I had in photobucket taken at Great Bay Beach looking back at the Magic. I had better shots BUT this is the only one I can post quickly. Where we swam was nicer than this looks. We wlaked down farther from this area. Looking towards the right if you could pan) would be a nice view of hills/island.

We liked this as a cheap trip for 6. ($20) for the water taxi. Shopping is just behind you.

The water taxi is free for kids 12 & under. You can easily catch a regular taxi if you want to try some other beaches on either island.

I agree with the St. Maarten recommendations. All day water taxi is perfect. Beach is great. Everything you need right there. Water, drinks, water sport rentals, etc. Shopping is one block up from the beach and you can head back to the ship for lunch if you desire. It was a great day.

St. THomas, the main"downtown" area is a short taxi ride away. Tram is walkable along with Havensight - from the dock.
