So we are spending a week in Port Townsend Washington and planning on taking a ferry over to Victoria. I'm hoping that the Museum is within walking distance of the ferry terminal. Just wondering if anyone knows? What other interesting things are within walking distance?

TIA!:goodvibes

I'm not sure which direction you're coming, but if you a going in the next few weeks, double check to make sure if the Hood Canal Bridge is open yet before heading to Port Townsend!

Lot's of stuff is within walking distance in Victoria. The downtown area is right off the ferry. The museum, the wax museum (I've never been there), the Empress Hotel, the Harbor area. The only tourist "biggie" that's not right there is Buchart gardens and you can catch buses to it. I've done Victoria as a one day trip from Seattle or Port Angeles several times. It is also easy to stay over without a vehicle because there are hotels you can easily walk to as well.

I'm curious what will happen to all the daytripper business with the new passport requirements.

Pt Townsend (Wa ferry) still lands in Sidney, so I assume youre taking the Black Ball?
That lands right in Downtown Victoria.

The museum is a MUST do IMHO one of the best I have been to. It is within walking distance.

Butchart is also amazing and you can get a bus from downtown. Well worth it IMHo the Empress is great for Tea but there are also some other great places for tea there. There are a lot of great shops in downtown, a toy shop that I love is right off the main road.

I love Victoria have a wonderful time!

Yes we are planning on taking the Black Ball ferry over. I have to get my DS's passport out - I'm afraid it's expired. I did some checking and he can still go with his birth certificate and DH and I both have current passports. I think as long as I have to get his birth certificate out I may take him down to get an Enhanced ID too.

We just spent a week in Victoria. Some of our favorites are:
  • Royal BC Museum
  • Breakfast at John's Place
  • Whale watching (we liked Wild Cat)
  • Fish & Chips at Barb's Place and feeding the harbor seals (Fisherman's Wharf), you can take the harbor ferry or walk
  • Butchart Gardens
  • Wander through the Empress hotel

Most of the action is centred around the Inner Harbor and can easily be walked (with the exception of Butchart Gardens). There are also many tourist attractions like the Bug Zoo, Miniature World, Wax Museum, Undersea Gardens etc which are more targeted to kids and may not be worth the money in some people's opinions.

Victoria is beautiful, and so easy to walk around downtown. If you like Christmas stores, there is 2 nice stores right downtown. One is 3 floors stuffed full of Christmas ornaments, some are really gorgeous. I think its called "the original christmas store":thumbsup2
