Forgive me folks; this is as much a memo to myself as it is a list for others to consider. If I make it into a word document, I'll never think to look at it :) Right now it's pretty much just stream-of-consciousness; no particular order.

To DO:
- Call the kennel and get the dates we need
- Arrange for transportation to and from airport; comparision shop limos/ vans...
- Decide on Wegoshop vs Garden Grocer and eventually place order
- Decide on shoes for everyone
- Actually look at the walkie talkies I got at 1 Sale a Day and see whether they're worth bringing. If not, get a better handle on how our cell phones work and memorize each other's numbers.
-Likewise, look at the headphones (or were they earphones??) I got there and see if they'll do for the plane.
- Cash in (or whatever it is) the points on our Disney Visa
- Ask neighbors to watch the house
-Decide on stroller/no stroller for Kira. Consider buying a cheapo one through Wegoshop for evenings???
- make index cards by the day with ADR #s, EMH...
- Decide on a touring strategy

To BUY:
- kool aid type powder for the water bottles
- glow in the dark necklaces/bracelets... oriental trading?? dollar store?? walmart??
- socks for everyone. I HATE socks. I don't mind wearing them, but I hate everything else about them!!!!!
-lanyards-- check out the dollar store? Or decide on felt for the kids to use in their fanny packs instead.
- snacks for the fanny packs. Fruit by the foot? Goldfish? Other? Gum for Peter
- sunblock
- something to occupy the kids on lines
- a book for me (maybe the kids too?) for the plane. These need to be last minute, or I'll read it ahead of time.
-earplugs for Kira for the fireworks
-stockings for me for the fall (school starts a few days after we get home, and I wear a skirt almost every day.) OT, but still necessary this summer.
-A chamois for post- thunderstorms.
- spare sunglasses for the kids (in bulk-- oriental trading type stuff?)
- sunglass holders for everyone-- those stringy things
-gallon sized ziplocks
-bubbles (oriental trading again!)
- bandanas (to wet down and wear around necks &/or to mark the stroller we may or may not get)

ALREADY BOUGHT:
-fanny packs/ baggalini
- pins for trading
- misting fans

Bubbles for waiting in lines.

Balloons for at the airport.

Lollipops, granola bars, cereal bars for in fanny packs.

Tip I saw was to pack an outfit in a ziplock bag (underware, socks, t-shirt and shorts) Easier for kids to get ready in the morning. You can also easily grab another set if you think they might get wet at one of the fountains.

Your list looks good-Have a great trip!

Ok, thanks... I added those :)

What do you mean by "balloons for the airport"?? We're leaving at 7 am, so we'll have to be at JFK by 5ish. As it turns out, friends are going down on the same flight. So my kids will be entertained enough at the airport that we can skip the hassle of getting helium balloons if that's what you meant.

But keep the ideas coming!! :)

I just bring regular balloons and blow them up at the airport for my niece and other children to play with while waiting to board the plane. Keeps them busy.

They don't take up much room and I leave them there for another child to play with when we board. One of the children brought one on the flight-we met on the flight down to DL and again on our return.

Update as of 7/5

OK, question:

Where can I find those stringy sunglass holders? You know what I mean: the things that allow your sunglasses to drop off your head without getting lost?

I saw lanyards in Home Dept henging by the key cutting section. I saw Disney theme ones too! I have no idea how much they were, but I thought I would let you know just incase you are there and want to check.
We seem to live in that place with summer projects! Nexttime I will check the price

Just some suggestions before you go:

Adjust the thermostat in your house
Turn off the water (we came back to a flooded basement once) :scared1:
Lights on timers - lock the windows and doors
Arrange for mail and paper pick up
Arrange for your garbage/recycling to be brought out/in

A nightlight if you a traveling with young kids
Bug spray
Autograph book and sharpies
Money for pressed pennies in a m&m tube

Have a great trip :goodvibes

What do you mean by Bubbles for waiting in lines? Lines at Disney?

Yeah, someone else suggested this.

My 5 year old still likes blowing bubbles. I got a 24 pack of .5 oz bubbles bottles. I'll throw one into her fanny pack to keep her occupied, maybe my 8 year old's as well.

That is a great idea, I would have never thought of it...what about taking a bubble gun?

Ummmm, guns and airports?? No, I'm too fainthearted for that.

Besides, the ones I got are SMALL; they'll fit into even the tiny fannypack I got Kira. And with no batteries or anything else, there's less chance that she'll blow them into someone's face or something. (I sincerely hope.)

Anyway, I got 2 dozen tiny bottles at www.smalltoys.com for something like $3.80. Any we don't bring she can use over the summer and fall.

edited to add: here's the link. http://www.smalltoys.com/Merchant2/...re_Code=st&Product_Code=J13490&Category_Code= I got the pirate ones in the hope that my 10 year old son migt actually be bored enough to use some.

 They do not look like real guns, that would not be good! The one I have looks like an animal that spits bubbles, it runs on batteries.

I was SURE you meant something like that, but it was too good to pass up.

Anyway, the order is already placed, so it's pirates for us :)

Make sure you order your Disney rewards card soon b/c it can take up to 2 weeks or so to get it. It is a credit card type card/ If you are waiting to get more money, you can call to have more transferred to the card, even at Disney. The minimum for a transfer is $10.00 I think. I's hate to have you miss out on using your reward dollars!

What did you mean by felt in the kids fanny packs? I feel kinda stupid b/c no one else asked, but I have no idea what that means.:confused3

Not sure where on LI you live, but the BJ's in Levittown had a huge package of those glow in the dark necklaces. I think it was 100 or more for $12.95.

I'm not sure whether to put the trading pins on lanyards or just stick them on pieces of felt.

I can't get past the idea that lanyards will be hot around their necks in August.
