The kids & I are headed to the Ft. Lauderdale area next weekend to visit DH. Any ideas of things to do while he is @ work? :sunny:

Hi there. Let's see.... you can go to the beach. You can head to Sawgrass Mills Mall to do some major shopping. And they have a place called Wannado city there.... it's a little expensive but i've heard it is great. It's a place where kids can be whatever they want, a doctor, firefighter, news caster... they dress up and play the parts. There is also a children's museum down there somewhere too. Oh and there is Boomers, a small amusement park & game room. Have a great time!

Besides what anewvance suggested, you could also drive to Miami and go to Miami Metrozoo or Miami Seaquarium. Both are great.

Have a great time! And don't pack any warm clothes, it's already HOT!!!

Your kids (depending on the ages) will LOVE Wannado City over at the Sawgrass Mills. There are a lot of choices for what they can be when they grow up and they will have a ball!
There is a bunch of flea markets you could go to all around. Festival Bay is nice-that is on Sample Rd right off the Turnpike.

Have a great time~!

My DD and I just got back from the Ft. Lauderdale area :)
I would highly recommend Butterfly World in Coconut Creek. They have a huge walk-through butterfly habitat, one with birds, all kinds of beautiful flowers, a bugs :scared: exhibit, a little cafè to have lunch at and a lovely gift shop. I'll see if I can find a link for it.

Don't forget your camera(s)! Like we did, so I went back to the house to get them

Butterfly World

Found it! The website is nice and even has a virtual tour and discount coupons you can print out :goodvibes

I second Butterfly World! When I was a kid they had horse back riding there also, I don't know if they still do. I had heard there is going to be an exhibit of some of King Tut's treasures down there. I don't know the details, if your intrested look it up on the net. That is kind of a once in a lifetime event, if you have boys they would love it. There is also a japanese museum down there somewhere. They do the tea ceremony daily, that would intrest girls more.

It's actually call Festival Flea Market.

It's right down the street from Butterfly World.

What I'm going to suggest isn't in Broward county, it's in west Palm Beach county: Lion Country Safari. http://www.lioncountrysafari.com/ We went in January and so many improvements have been made. There are some rides for the little ones, a water play area for the kids and, of course, the animals, all included in the general admission price. You can take the Turnpike to get there, it should be about a 40 minute drive depending on traffic. I recommend that you go during the week and early in the morning. I really recommend this attraction, you'll probably never get that close to a giraffe or rhino.

Miami Seaquarium re-opened a couple of months ago. The park sustained extensive damage during Wilma and many animals died. I know that Seaworld donated some sharks to MS. I don't know what the park looks like right now, but we plan to go very soon.

Wanadoo city is a great place for kids. It is at the Sawgrass Mall and will occupy an entire day. My daughter loves it there, she has a "credit card" and gets paid for working. She was a newborn baby nurse and performed surgery. She also did nails and got paid for that.

We live in Boca Raton which is about 15 minutes north of Ft. Lauderdale. The beaches here are amazing and there are several great restuarants to choose from. Let me know if you need directions!

Keep in mind spring break starts this Friday for Broward County and goes through April 17. So everything will be crowded. All of these ideas suggested are great. Also take a trip to the beach. Hollywood Beach Broadwalk to fun. Also Ft Lauderdale beach is nice. Take some skates or rent a bike.

Parrot Jungle http://www.parrotjungle.com/jsps/

Love Lion Country Safari

Lots of parks with water areas. http://www.broward.org/parks/waterfun.htm

beach, beach, and more beach. We love the fact that you can just have fun on the beach, slip on some shorts and go have some lunch at an outdoor cafe.

Have fun.

Ouch! If Broward schools are on spring break then it will be crazy at Wanadoo City. Try Palm beach activities, we had our spring break in March so everyone here (except for a few private schools) are back to routine.

There is a great Boomers (amusement center) in Boca Raton at the Glades Road exit. There is also a Muvico palace right next door and they even have a kids play center there if you and your husband want to catch a movie.
