Things I learned at DisneyWorld Aug.2014

Here are some of the things I learned at DisneyWorld last week. Not in any particular order. No kids, just adults( not unless you count my 19 year old squealing everytime she saw a character)

*Moles skins are lifesavers.
*Even well broken in shoes will hurt you feet.
*You can tell the difference from the Cast Members who love being at Disney and the ones who are just doing a job.
*The water isn't as bad has I've been told(could be because my water at home is worse).
* You never need as much stuff as you pack...especially into the park.
* Definitely watch the parades back by Liberty Square/ Frontierland. Though not on the benches at 3pm in August with the sun blaring down on you.
* Frogg Toggs come in very handy when you are waiting for the parade in the blaring sun.
* Akershus is well worth the money spent. 10:45am breakfast was fabulous.
* It's true...when you pick a pearl at Japan Pavilion, pick the hairiest/ugliest one you can find. Worked for me, I picked one with 2 pearls(one of the highlights of my trip)
* The cake cups at Cheshire Cafe are the best cupcakes I have ever had....truly
* Fast passes are great...but sometimes its fun to wait in line so you can see all the great things in the queue. I missed seeing all the fun stuff at Toy Story Mania.
* Tower of Terror is best when you ride with you arms in the air...just let go and have fun
*There are a lot of people out there who are oblivious to what is going on around them...or so wrapped up in their own vacation that they forget others are there.
* There are some really great families that have a blast at Disney.
* The Beverly really does taste horrible....though not as bad as I was expecting,
* For me....next time I will save all my fast passes for the afternoon and get there early enough ride while the lines are short.
*Magic Kingdom rope drop is wonderful!
* Animal Kingdom is just a giant zoo with one really great ride. Even though...I still love it.
* Sometimes, homemade Disney shirts don't hold up to all day wear in the hot sun.
* Tops with spaghetti straps do not hide your bra, neither does very thin see through tops.
* Disney Depression does exist....I need another trip to plan. Right now!!

- Don't be afraid to talk to people! I had to ride a lot of rides alone. I made friends with a Mom and her 7 year old daughter on ToT. I had a great conversation with an off-duty CM waiting for RnRC.

- Don't be afraid to ask CMs for help if you need it.

- Don't be afraid to let loose and have fun. We road Journey into the Little Mermaid completely alone. COMPLETELY ALONE. We took up 4 clams, and made it a karaoke ride. The CMs could hear us and loved it, and we had an amazing time.

- It doesn't matter how awesome you look at rope drop. You will be a hot, sweaty mess by 1pm. Roll with it.

I have a few more I remembered.

* Don't buy the dollar rain ponchos....they rip...its like putting a dry cleaner bag over you...super thin...go for the 4 doller ones
* I will get stuck on Pirates. It doesn't matter if its 'land or 'world, the ride will stop on me.
*Cross body bag worked better for me that Vera Bradley backpack.
* If you want to be original with you bag...don't carry a Vera Bradley, everyone has a Vera (unless you just bought the Disney version, then by all means show it off!!!)
* Driving two days to get to the D is fun going....but very sad and LONG coming home.
* Disney does not want you to leave. Every time I have been some thing has occurred to delay my departure time.
* Definitely get personal with the characters! I told Woody that my one of my daughter's first words was "Woody". He and Jesse made the meet very special. Same with Mickey when we told him it was her first time meeting him.
* Your shy daughter will let all inhibitions go at Disney. I have never heard her scream like she did on the rides. Plus she will belt out in song walking down any street at Disney and shout whatever character's name she sees walking past.
*I thought I was prepared for all the walking...nope, not at all. Needed to do far more walking prep
* Mine Train was AWESOME!
* Some things you bring back will still smell like Disney a week later

I told my third daughter( a sophomore in HS) that when I take her for her graduation we'll do Universal the first day and Disney the rest of the time.....and a whole bunch of other stuff. Her comment was "you are already planning my trip?" UH, YEAH!!!!

I know...I tried talking with some people. Some people were good others just kind of smiled and nodded and that was it. Mineral make up worked great for me in all the heat!!! I just have to laugh at some of our MemoryMaker photos...we look so beleaguered!!!

I do have to say that I was amazed that some of the CMs acted surprised that we would greet them and ask them how their day was. You could see the appreciation on their faces. Only a few would respond back with a "Im having a magical day". Most just looked stunned and said thank you

I love your list! And I too, love to talk to random people and CM's. We met some awesome people while waiting for RD, one couple we kept seeing all over at the different parks and we would stop and chat for a few minutes like we were old friends.
And talking to the CM's is just interesting. It seems that almost all of them have a story and will tell you fun little facts about WDW. The Everything Pop CM's were awesome. I would strike up a conversation every morning while DH went to get breakfast. And the more you smile and say thank you, the more pixie dust comes your way!

toward this for most days of our trip for next year. We usually hop daily and hit a few rides before moving onto the next. The parks are busier by the time we get back from our midday break.

Take a picture the first day in the park of each group in your party, then take a picture the morning of the last full day at WDW. My DH and I did this and let me tell you...the last morning's picture was hilarious! Every moment of go, go, go with the DD, SIL and 2 DGDs showed on Grandma and Grandpa's faces. We had a true moment of giggling before leaving the resort for the day.

Take a moment, sit on one of the park benches and watch people...the wonders you will see!

This is like my thing. If there is ANY possible way for me to get wet on a ride, I will get wet. I got wet on Spaceship Earth. Yes I did. The ride stopped and an air conditioning unit right over my head dripped on me.
We'll see if this still holds true after a 7 year absence from the parks.

Loved all these! I have moleskin packed as well as a good first aid kit. Glad you reminded me about all the walking I won't be used to doing. I read a post where someone said they sprayed their feet with anti-perspirant and didn't have any blisters. I will do this also. I almost bought the $4.95 ponchos at Walmart but they felt so heavy. I may buy one for me since I do not want to walk around damp all day. The guys said they don't care if they get wet but I bought 3 emergency $1 ones at Walmart anyway.

Nope, not the same place. In California it was under the bridge with the guy with the swinging leg and in Fla. it was by the jail scene. Which was my daughters favorite place. In Cal. she had bought the stuffed dog and actually named it "Key"sha. She had such a unique mind, still does

And it really wasnt all that painful. The first time in Cal. might have been...had young kids with me. The one daughter, who was with me this time was about 7 and clutched my arm tight the whole time. This time she kept silently praying that they wouldnt have to turn the lights on because she didnt want the magic to be ruined

Great idea. I do have a picture of my daughters beaming face the first time we were at the buses waiting to go to Ak the first time. Then a picture of her very sad face at the bus stop heading for MK for the last time.

LOVE to people watch. Thats the best part of waiting for the parade. And the way we were decked out and singing the whole time Im sure we gave some people some good times too
