Things i just found out.

For our trip this past January I had saved $1100 in disney gift cards (mainly $50 at a time). We charged all of our food and some souvenirs to our magic bands, then the night before check out took all of them to front desk to settle our bill. The cast member at BW could not have been any nicer about scanning them. She went on and on what a good idea this is!

I might do this, but I will probably use the ones I've collected (only about $250 so far) for OOP like dinners and souvenirs. Not sure how much more I will get. But I thought if you charged it to your room, you'd have to have a credit card attached to it?

Yes we gave them our credit/debit card, but they don't' charge it till check out day. I went late afternoon just in case they charge at night.

It's a great way to save, but be aware that when you pay for your trip, if you have to cancel at anytime, the money is refunded to those cards, so be sure to keep them. Just an FYI.....saving 6% off the top is great though.r

This is the main reason I don't use Disney gift cards. If you have to cancel your trip for some reason, and all of your money is tied up in Disney gift cards, then what do you do? You can't spend that money anywhere but for something Disney-related.

I'm at WDW right now, and decided not to do Disney gift cards. I have a dad in hospice and knew there was a chance I might need to cancel my trip. Thank goodness Dad's doing okay right now, but I'm so glad my "traveling money" isn't tied up in Disney cards.

What about saving with Visa GC instead of Disney in case the trip has to be canceled?

Could you take your bundle of $50 cards bought at a discount at Target to a Disney store and use them to buy one large GC?

No, or at least that's what the manager at my local Disney store told me when I asked her. She said it had to do with the way their registers were set up and that it wouldn't allow entering Disney GC's to buy Disney GC's.

Does Sam's not always carry the GC's online?

I was wondering this too...could not find them in the gift card section just now.

I did that this past Christmas and gave them as presents to everyone in my family who's going.
