Ok I love Disney but with a wife and 3 kids, I never considered buying disney gift cards to save up for my family trip. And the best thing yet is that you can get gift cards at Bj's whole sale club, I got a $50.00 card for $47.00 that's was awesome. So that's going to be my new thing. Has anyone tried doing this yet?

It's a great way to save, but be aware that when you pay for your trip, if you have to cancel at anytime, the money is refunded to those cards, so be sure to keep them. Just an FYI.....saving 6% off the top is great though.r

Wow that's a better deal then target. If you have a target red card you get 5% off. And if you use your a Disney rewards card visa to pay for them you get another 1% back.

Total of 7% off at bjs vs 5% target.

Thanks!

If you get a Disney visa, you can buy walmart gift cards (getting a 2% back on the visa card in disney rewards ) then take those gift cards to Sam's club...ONLINE...via ebates (getting a cash back %)...and order those discounted disney cards.

The discounts just go on and on...:hyper:

You can also purchase disney gift cards at Kroger at the time of the year when they are offering quadruple fuel points and pay for the whole trip in loaded ($500 cards) which will rack up your fuel points giving you up to $1 off per gallon.

We have saved gobs and gobs. I just got my disney visa reward card in the mail and it's loaded up with $450 in free money and we've been buying $1 a gallon reduced gas since Dec. 1. :thumbsup2

Keep one thing in mind though. If you do pay for your trip in 50 dollar increments, you may indeed get a not happy CM on the phone telling you they only allow two forms of payment...two cards. I pushed back and got a gall on who knew how to override this.

Ditto what others have said on the discounts. Last trip I had $500 in $50 gift cards I purchased at Target in November, and the rest of the trip was paid for in $300 card increments purchased at Kroger in December. We are still using those Kroger points for gas, paid $2 a gallon Thursday.

The good thing about Kroger is that you can put larger dollar amounts on the cards, whereas Target only sells $25 and $50 cards (at least here where I live).

You CAN - and I have in the past - use the $50 cards on the phone via the automated system to pay down your resort balance due before you go. It is tedious. Even if you get to a person instead of using the automated system, it's tedious. So this time I used the $50 ones for food and souvenir purchases while we were there, and used the $300 ones to pay down the resort. Having them in $50 denominations worked well for us because I could hand everyone a card and keep track of the balances in the Disney gift card app on my phone. If you prefer to room charge, you can go to the front desk every morning and pay down your room balance with gift cards as well.

Also if you like Starbucks... another good practice, now that Starbucks is in the parks, is to buy your Starbucks cards at Kroger or Target for a discount or fuel points, and add the Starbucks cards to the app on your phone. Then, you can pay for breakfast and coffee with the discounted money, and still accumulate rewards via Starbucks rewards account.

My two kids go to a private school and they have a scrip program. I was able to buy Disney gift cards in $1,000 increments and will get $100 off tuition because of it and the school gets a $100 too. We also bought additional cards for spending money. I know that if something happens it goes back on the cards but trust me - we are going to Disney! Can't wait!!!

If you have a target red card you get 5% off.

And the added bonus of a year's worth of free identity theft monitoring! ;)

Wow! Everybody wins!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I got a Target card early Dec just to do this. I had a 5% off a days' shopping from having spent a certain amt at the Target pharmacy. Then, with my new Target red card, also get 5% off. So, I was able to use both discounts together. Ha, I felt like I was talking to CM's, with the first person telling me I could use both together for the 10% off. Well, dumbo me forgot my 5% off prescrip. shopping card at home. Went back later and the next people didn't think it would work, that's not allowed. Finally got them to do it and it worked just fine. Same thing when we went another day to use daughter's prescrip discount day. The manager told me no way that would work, while her coworker said yeah it will. I explained our previous experience and she finally agreed to try and it worked just great again! She was surprised! So we were able to get $1000.00 in Disney gift cards for $900.00, twice. Worked great, and we can use the few left over on our trip next Dec.

I think they both workout to 6%? (assuming one has the Disney rewards Visa card for the Target purchase)

Great tip OP, I didn't know that BJs sold Disney cards!

Yup, great savings! And, for some shopping we did, we saved most for one day and shopped before 1pm and got 20% off using the coupon they had then! You could get them at certain QS places on the bottom of receipt. (they were good from sometime in Nov thru early Jan I think). We got ours at Casey's, ended up using it at The Emporium. Great deals! Sort of a pain using gift cards the whole trip for all food(all oop), drinks, souvenirs, and keeping track of how much was left got a bit confusing but it worked out. And we saved a decent amount of money! :)

For two previous trips I bought gift cards at SAMs - one year each gift card I bought came with a bonus $10 disney store gift card - so great to buy stuff ahead of time! And another year they came with a vinylmation trading pin - which was great bc the ones my kids didn't like they just traded!

Does Sam's not always carry the GC's online?

I buy mine at Target with my red card for the 5% savings and then apply my pharmacy rewards card for the additional 5%. The way it works is they'll discount the first 5% card, then scan the rewards savings card for the additional 5% off of the remaining balance...it's not quite 10% (more like 9.75% total) but it's the best deal I have found yet. I have been paying for my trips this way for the last 2 years, have saved a bundle and will be doing it again for our upcoming two trips. And this year, I plan to buy extra gift cards to cover our dining expenses as well since since we won't have the dining plan for the first time in a long time. My plan is to buy $2000 worth of GC's and will pay $1805....$195 savings...I'll take it :thumbsup2

Only if ebates is offering a good discount. right now it's only 1.5% so I don't think that saves more than buying them at Target per se.

For our trip this past January I had saved $1100 in disney gift cards (mainly $50 at a time). We charged all of our food and some souvenirs to our magic bands, then the night before check out took all of them to front desk to settle our bill. The cast member at BW could not have been any nicer about scanning them. She went on and on what a good idea this is!

This is exactly what we plan to do as well :)
