We have tried to discuss runDIsney in the past, because they are large events that attract lots of people and wildly popular, but a majority of our audience doesn't seem to care about hearing information regarding the races, with the exception of those asking for us to cover it.
I want to start off by saying that I know that there's a lot of information out there and a limited amount of time in which to cover it, so you really can only cover the things that are most important to the most people. Which is why I have no objection to the incessant Star Wars talk and the fact that you guys seem to only care about food. I really appreciate everything you do, and I understand that you just don't have time to cover everything, and there will always be things that just don't get covered.
I'm relatively new to the podcast, but I'm kinda wondering when the last time you covered runDisney was. Because it really has exploded in popularity over the past few years, to the point where races that used to take 3-4 months to sell out are now selling out in 3-4 hours. And four new races weekends have been added over the past 3 years, including an international race and a new coast-to-coast challenge that are both debuting this year. I'm wondering if, with the increased interest in runDisney, coverage of the race weekends would be better received now than it was the last time it was attempted.
Since I'm still relatively new to the podcast, I've been trying to go back and watch some older episodes. And I've found that the limited runDisney coverage I've seen didn't really give me such a good sense of the event. I want to see pictures and videos. I want to hear more about some of the cool things you see along the course (like running past Test Track backstage and seeing a car on the track during the 5K in January ... that was kinda cool) and the fun character picture opportunities. And I want to hear about the "ugly" parts too - the mad rush for certain merchandise at the expo, the crowding at certain points of the course, and maybe even the experience of being swept off the course. I think there's a lot out there that can be covered that wasn't really covered in what I've seen of the podcast.
Of course, I'm a runDisney runner, so my interest in the topic is a little different than the average person.
I think it would be great to have registration dates mentioned on the Daily Fix (obviously a day or two before registration opens, because if you mention registration at noon eastern on the day it opens, for some races that's a little too late to register). I think it would be even better to have a video of some of the events up on the DIS
youtube page, whether that's just the expo (which is open to the public), or an actual video from someone who participated in the race (which is probably more complicated because it requires someone from the team to register for and participate in a race). I think the best would be to have actual coverage of the race on the podcast, with someone talking about the weekend, the course, and their experience.
Of course, I'd be happy with someone talking about a race merchandise preview as their Rapid Fire. Any mention or coverage is better than nothing, and I certainly appreciate everything you guys do to try to keep us viewers/listeners happy!
