I love my LL Bean packaway jacket. It's very light weight, warm and packs away easily when you don't need it.
Ditto. Wearing mine right now. Seems to warm you to just warm enough, no matter what the temp. Also very water resistant. And super packable. DH surprised me last Xmas and he did GREAT!!I live in Ma which can get pretty cod and I have an omniheat jacket from Columbia and it's amazing. My favorite coat ever. It's very thin and very warm. It would be good for mornings and evenings but would probably be too warm for during the day unless it was really cold.
I got my packable down jacket from Costco this year - just $50Rolls up into small bag. Warm until around the low 30s. Any colder and I add a good quality fleece at which point I should be good no matter what weather.
What works best for us is lightweight layers. We usually start out with a long sleeve cotton T, then layer a quarter zip fleece over that. On top of that goes a lightweight windbreaker type jacket. In FL, a lot of the uncomfortable cold feeling is due to the high humidity. As long as you can keep the damp breeze from chilling you, you don't necessarily need anything heavy. We found that a wind and waterproof layer on top of a lightweight fleece layer is the key to staying warm. Plus, you can peel off/add on layers as the day progresses. A fleece hat and gloves are also great to have on hand for after dark and super cold days. If your head stays warm, you feel warmer all over.
