I'm trying to lose a few pounds this spring and I'd like to check-in with others who are doing the same for tips and support. I really have trouble using food to "feel better" and I'd like to work on finding other means of relieving stress. It should just take a few months to get where I'd like to be.

What do you think? Any weight loss buddies out there? :thumbsup2

Hi, I have about 15 lbs that have crept onto me over the last few years that I want to get rid of. I joined Weight Watchers online and it's been great. I'm doing the flex point system. It's really easy to follow and allows you to eat anything as long as you don't go past your daily point allowance. It even gives you a pool of extra points to use each week. I'm on my 2nd week and have lost 3 lbs. I go to the gym several times a week and do an intense workout so that's never been my problem. I just started slacking off on making good food choices. Weight Watchers is really helping me get back on track without feeling deprieved at all.

I also have 15 lbs that I'd like to lose. I'm so proud of myself..the last 3 nights for dessert at night....I've had water! That is SO tough for me, cuz I love having dessert. And today, went to grocery store, looked at the donuts....really considered getting one, then left. For me, I really just am trying to cut back on what/how much I eat, and if I have time, exercise...thats another issue...been SO busy lately, hardly time to exercise, but I really want to get down to my target weight by summer.

I'm going to head out to jog right now. My goal for today is to keep picturing my successful end result as a motivating image. I'll be so happy if I can get through the evening without messing up. I'm picturing a great diet day :goodvibes

Good luck! Its really hard to keep up with and to stay motivated! Definitely helpful to have others around for support.

I've been counting points again with Weight Watchers and have lost 12lbs since Jan....it really works for me....I had put on a few this past year and really wanted to drop down a few lbs....the thing I like most about WW is nothing is "off limits." I love dessert, but instead of eating a big piece of chocolate cake every night, I have a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich or 2 snackwells cookies....keep me motivated too....good luck :)

I just count calories and walk as often as possible. I do drink a Slimfast shake for breakfast. They've come a long way from where they started.

Lost 20 lbs since January.

Good Luck

15 lbs. found me this year, and another 15 found hubby. I think a big part of that for me was that I went off my synthroid (controls my hypothyroidism - stupid, I know), but I'm starting it again, and hubby and I have decided to start a running program together. We've never done any running before, but I found a "couch potato to 5k" training program online, and we're going to give it a shot. We decided if we had a goal (being able to run a 5k) that might motivate us better than just "let's start jogging". We're scheduled to start Monday morning!

I'm interested in this too. During the past year I've gained close to 20lbs. Part of it is being a SAHM who snacks all day, part is turning 30 and part is because of the 4 rounds of prednisone I took last year. We also eat out a lot.

I'd really like to lose 15-20lbs. I'm not huge (size 8-10) but I just don't feel good. I'm sluggish, constantly have headachs, tired all the time, etc.

I DESPISE excersizing but I know I need to start. The motivation is so hard for me. DH is super skinny and eats huge portions of unhealthy foods. He snacks on chips and sundaes. It is so frustrating for me to be craving something 'bad' and then having him chow down on it in front of me.

I've had this problem with my son..it used to be so much easier before having a child--I could just stay away from food if I wanted to lose weight...now I still have to prepare for my son so I can't have it out of the house the same way.

I just drank a huge glass of tea that was pretty satisfying. I'd like to keeping trying to find ways to substitute healthier alternatives to eating to keep my mood up. I am one of those emotional eaters and it's work to solve the problem, but I'm really trying! :coffee:

Something I do to stay in shape (have never had a weight problem) is to work out with weights. I know I know, many women freak with this idea, I'm not talking about putting on large muscles, but work out with light-medium weights and the nautilus machines, (along with some low impact aerobics also which is good for endurance, your heart, etc.) And don't be a slave to the scale as you may actually put on a lb or 2 but that will be lean firm muscle and not fat. I work out MUCH less then most women who I see an hour plus slaving on those dang bicycles, stairclimbers, or aerobic classes, etc. My husband and I have been doing this for 15 years now, we're both in our early 40's (don't look it) and have never had a weight problem as muscle burns fat and increases your metabolism. Also try to eat whole grain foods, they have protein also and lower glycemic index and keep your sugar at a more regular level, not white bread, (besides the fact that white bread is stripped of essential nutrients and bleached which has been shown to cause cancer in rates, it is highly addictive and has a high glycemic index), try to avoid sugar when possible (although I do eat sugar sometimes myself), and try to eat a lot of raw foods, salads, vegetables, nuts, seeds. And never starve yourself, your body will go into starvation mode and you will gain back. And don't give up fats, your body needs fats but good fats such as Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oils, nuts, soy. Avoid hydrogenated transfats.

I just joined WW online on Monday!! I have done WW before so I knew how the points worked. Today my SIL and I are going to Curves- I am still a little skeptical of that, but we'll see.

I really like WW though because I can literally eat anything I want as long as I watch my points, but you learn very quickly how to maximize your food choices to be able to eat more food for less points. For instance, the other night- I had dinner: 1 cup spaghetti saquash (0 points); 1/2 c. Prego sauce (2 points); 2 tsp parm cheese (1 point).

Of course- I could have had reg. spaghetti for 4 points/cup, but, I opted for squash then got to have a Breyers light ice cream bar too! I'm much better now too at focusing on making sure I am eating fruits and veggies (which I am horrible at), and making sure that I am drinking all of my water.

SO.... :cheer2: :cheer2: to everyone on this thread! We can do it!! :grouphug:

Thank you...

this is the time of day where the day's stress starts to get to me, and I'm ready to go bury myself in cookies or something. I'm making tea again to help myself relax without hurting my body.

Thanks for all the great tips so far!

Keep 'em coming! :worship:

Ohh I am glad to have found this!!

I would like to lose atleast 10 pounds, hopefully 15 total.

My big problem is I hate walking when its cold, so hopefully soon I will go walking again, but my BIGGEST problem is that I snack ALOT and its so hard to control it.

I'm having a good day so far....I'm still filling up on liquids and having s/f hard candy to snack on right now. My knees aches from jogging yesterday so I took a day off since I injured one recently.

How is everyone else doing today?

Is anyone dieting after a Disney trip? I've heard that all the walking makes a difference...but it didn't for me on this last trip!

Here's a big hug of support today for everyone participating on this thread! :grouphug:

Can you guys tell me about WW and the whole points thing? Dear SO is overweight and the doctor is starting to get concerned so I need to help dear SO lose weight and cook healthier and get her motivated to work out. Problem is, whatever she eats I also have to eat and work out, but I'm underweight as it is, and if I lose another pound the doctor is going to kill me. Any suggestions to help Dear SO lose weight where I can maintain my current weight?

I love WW because it is a sensible plan. Points are assigned to foods based on calories, fat, and fiber. I'll give you my basic run-down. I get 28 points/day (I am currently at 226 lbs- down 4 lbs since MONDAY!!). An example of food points:

1 med. apple = 1 point.
1 C. grapes = 1 point
smothered cheese fries at Denny's = 19 points (see where I am going with this?)

No foods are off limits, but it helps you learn to make better choices for yourself. ALSO- I don't want to waste 19 of my 28 points on smothered cheese fries, because then I'll be hungry the rest of the day. Look around at www.weightwatchers.com I do WW online. You can look up the point value of any food online, but at the meetings you get a portable point calculater. Some people go into the meetings. I have done those in the past.

Now, in order for you to NOT lose any more weight, when you prepare meals, simply add an extra serving of something, or include a protein shake in your day. Maybe discuss it with your Dr.'s to see how you can best combine it. My DH and I just eat separate meals 1/2 the time (he doesn't need to lose weight either). When I cook for both of us, he eats as much as he wants, and I always make sure to measure my portions.
