congratulations! That is very exciting........we built our home 7 years ago and it was wonderful ~ a little stressful because I was pregnant and DD7 was born 5 days after we moved in!

Thanks! We've been staying with my parents since early May, so we're all a little antsy.

You can see why digging makes me so happy.

congrats to you and your family. It can be a tiring process but it's worth it in the end.

We have built two homes. The first was a nightmare because we had a builder who tried to cut corners on us but the last one which was 2 years ago was wonderful. The whole experience was great. Of course there were things that would come up or be delayed but in the end it was all worth it and we now have our dream home. I am excited for you. It is so neat to see your dream be built from the ground up. Good luck with it.

I remember those days....I would drive by the site everyday! We too were living with my parents (sold our house in 5 days so we needed a temporary place to stay) and the house couldn't get done fast enough.

Just a word of advice, we found the house to look extremely small when studded out...we were worried we made a mistake, but it just looked deceiving. Once the dry wall went up it was fine.

Thanks for that bit of advice - now I won't flip out if it looks like a cracker jack box when it's first framed.

Congratulations. It is an exciting time. We just built our first home..we close on the 28th of this month. And the previous poster was right. When the framing was going, I was going "OMG....how will we live in this?" But now its great. I do my final walk through a week from tomorrow.
Take lots and lots of pictures of everything. We're making a photo album of the process from us picking out our land and the "Sold" sign going up down to every last little detail of the building.

That's what we're doing too! Only thing is, we never got a "Sold" sign on our lot - but we're thinking it was because they were using our lot as a topsoil dumping lot, and maybe the sign would have just been run over too many times.

Maybe now we can get a "sold" sign!
