A good point made by a previous poster.
If you absolutely have to move-your new reservation should reflect the AP rate. In no way would I accept a move to a different hotel and be expected to pay rack rate when my original reservation was under the AP rate.
I would insist on this. They should at least do this.
I think a move to another monorail resort would be the only thing they should offer. If that is not available then I would expect some sort of upgrade.
I would NOT pay rack rate for the hotel I was moved to. They should not ask you to do this when you booked an AP rate.

It's totally rediculous that you have to stay at the AKL.... even with the lower rate and upgrade I'd be disappointed.
I sure hope you can still have a nice trip. 
I am sending you some pixie dust!!! I hope this is the storm before the rainbow and your trip turns out to your best one ever. You will really enjoy AKL, in fact, it is now one of my fav's.
