I just spoke to the Chef at AoA who told me they changed suppliers again. The regular buns used to be dairy-free and they aren't anymore. I can't have any of the allergy buns due to a tapioca allergy. Looks like hamburgers are off the menu now. :(

He was very helpful in getting me a Mickey waffle , bacon, and tandoori potatos. :)

Hamburgers minus a bun is an idea. That's what I would do.

Same. No bun doesn't mean no hamburgers. I'm allergic to wheat and eggs (along with many other foods) so I can't eat the regular buns at restaurants and most places that do have gluten free buns use Udis which have egg. So I just get a hamburger with no bun. I just did this twice at Grand lux Cafe while I was in the hospital. Cheeseburger w/sauteed mushrooms and onions no bun. I also can't have any raw vegetables so I can't even add most toppings to it but you could still get a burger and put lettuce, onion, pickles, tomato, etc on top and just eat it with a fork.

You don't have to give up your burger...you just have to be flexible.

I could eat it alone without the bun. It's still disappointing that my options at the parks shrunk again.

I hate to say this but that is life with allergies. There are many restaurants that I no longer eat at because they will not work with my allergies. And foods I can only eat at home because they are normally made with dairy products, shellfish or mango.

Could you bring allergy free buns from home?? Maybe frozen for travel. Then bring 1 or 2 into the park on the days you want to eat Hamburgers??

You should see all the stuff I have to cart around for my insulin dependent diabetes everyday At the parks!!

A bag of buns would be easy!!

Which brand are they using now? And do you know if this change is at all Disney eating places or just AoA? I am asking for my 3yo who will have a fit if he can't have the bread. I was thinking he'd be able to eat the buns but I'll need to bring some in if they are no longer dairy free.

At burger places, after I've told them what I want on my burger, I have them wrap it up in lettuce leaves. That way, I can pick it up and eat it like a burger should be eaten. :goodvibes

Most places are happy to oblige. One place even wrapped it up in paper like a wrap, which made it a little neater to eat. I expect Aoa would do the same. Make sure you tell the cook/chef what your diatary limitations are.

Do all the resorts on property have minifridges? If so, I'd just bring the bread that I need, and keep it in the freezer portion, if there is one. We always bring the 'special' food my younger daughter will eat, in case we can't find something she'll not gag on at the parks/food courts. She'll even be bringing her 'special' food to college next month, so she can gradually try to introduce what the college has to offer, and go from there.

It's a resort-wide change. The old whole-grain buns were dairy-free but are not now. They do have allergy-friendly buns. I asked what brand but he didn't tell me because they are all tapioca breads. If he's fine with the usual allergen buns, he should still be ok. It's the "regular" bun that is no longer dairy-free.

This saddens me a bit. My son is dairy and peanut allergic, and I was just raving about how amazing they were last November when we had him down there for the first time. And hamburgers are one of his favorite things.

I'm also a bit disappointed, because we just booked a Disney Cruise with my in-laws (yesterday, in fact!) and now it's got me wondering if this is a DCL change as well if it's resort-wide...

Ack! I hope they don't take away the Udi's buns now...sheesh just when you get used to something! :rotfl:

I heard that AoA was going to be carrying Ener-G rolls now, so that's likely the one.

I would love it if they were able to carry both! Good luck on your trip--if they don't have buns, I would definitely go for a lettuce wrap burger. I used to get these all the time at Red Robin! Yum!

Ok, thanks for sharing what you know. It is so frustrating that they keep changing everything.

Are the hamburger patties used in most of the WDW restaurants 100% beef or are there fillers in them. I'm on a very restricted diet (scd) and I can't have any grain, among other things. I was thinking perhaps I could just get a hamburger with no bun and only certain toppings, but it depends on what is actually in the burger.

DCL does NOT necessarily do the same things as WDW. You should make sure the allergies are noted on your reservation. I've heard DCL does a great job handling allergies. We have a special diet (not allergy) and we were fine in their dining rooms.

Enjoy your cruise!
