I was talking to someone who said that Disney searches your bags for food when you enter the parks.

Is this true?

I was counting on being able to bring snacks and small sandwiches for my two little ones since they are very picky eaters.

Does anyone know if this is true?

I was there in April and we took snack and drinks and didn't have any problems. I know what it is like to have a picky eater!!

I just got back, and they did search all bags. I know that there were people who walked in with coolers and had no trouble.

They search bags for security reasons but not to ban food. People bring in food and drinks all the time (though they would turn you away with alcohol if they found it).

No worries!

There is a security check of bags but food items are the least of their worries...

The search they do is post 9/11 and does involve looking into all bags, but they are looking for knives and guns, not Teddy Grahams. Small snacks that fit in your bag will be promptly ignored. I bet they don't allow glass though; most parks have that rule. I always take water bottles and I usually have some crackers and candy or granola-things for the kids. Never a problem.

The quickly searched ours and then asked my daughter if she had any mouse traps in there. She looked at him rather strangely.

When we were there in May we had snacks and no problem They searched the bags thoroughly open every zipper and open up the camera and your wallet too . I like they were thorough because then you felt safe.

Because criminals are so likely to put these items in the very tops of bags they casually open for security guards. ;)

Or at least that's what Disney wants you to think.

Cute! Nice to see CM's with a sense of humor! :)

When I was at DL in June, they had no problems with my snacks, but they did make me remove my fanny pack so that I couldn't conceal anything between it and my body!?!:confused3

We never had problems bringing in snacks, juice boxes, water bottles, etc. But one time we saw the security guard find a flask of alcohol in someone's backpack. He made her empty it onto the ground in front of everyone...kinda funny...lol.

You should be able to bring snacks in moderation. If you try to bring an entire grocery store into the parks, they may balk at that. We have also seen people who tried to bring a full size cooler be stopped and told to either empty it into smaller bags or take everything back to their car.

No one is bothered about food items (as long as it isn't a cooler) or unless it is alcohol related. That is a rumor started years ago and really never was true. The search is security related and fanny packs must be removed because of two reasons really. Number one is that many have hidden pockets on the body side of them and it must be checked out and Second is related. Can you imagine the problems that might be if the guard accidentially touched your body while searching, which is almost a given.

So instead of fighting it and becoming paranoid, just take off the pack, open the zippers and in just a few seconds you will be freely wandering around the park.

ROFL. Dare I ask what food you have on your person even now? :rotfl2:

The person in front of me had a bag of those mini Hershey's chocolate bars in her fanny pack. The guard made a joke about how he was going to have to confiscate those. :)

I will tell you that Universal is strict. They will absolutely make people get rid of food.

I can tell you the searches started on 9/12/01, that was during our last disney vacation!

On the 12th, even the guards didn't know what they were looking for, but they searched everyone anyway. Kind of scary, but everyone was pretty shook up then. Believe me, no one cared about food then, and I doubt they do now. Just don't bring a big knife to spread the peanut butter! ;)

The only time i saw a securty guard make a fuss was when the lady tried to bring in two Cokes in glass bottles and one of those pointy can openers.he took care of it for her and boy, was she mad!
