My brother-in-law will not talk to me at family events because I am not a REAL MAN.-- Here is what Pete, my brother in law, is like (a REAL MAN):

He drinks Beer and hard liquor

He plays real sports like Football, Basketball and Soccer (Not sissy games like Bowling, Tennis and Golf)

He follows Professional Sports carefully. All day Saturday and Sunday should be spent with the guys watching Football

He has a manly Crew-cut Haircut

He doesn't cry, express emotions and has very little to say. He is a strong silent type

He has broad shoulders, big forearms and lots of muscles

He has a comanding presence (like a military or police officer)
----------------------

My wife asked her sisters if my brother in law, who has all the traits described above, was liked by the family. He sure was. All six sisters think Pete is just so hot and are wish they were with him.--- Myself, not much of a catch- not a real man.

But aren't you a creative intellectual type? Why should this bother you? :confused3

I know you confuse me. I have no idea if you are questioner or conversationist, if you are a he/ she /it, or if this post is even for real.

You are fighting a familial stereotype, which you would be hard-pressed to win.

If your SO is happy with you, and you are happy, that is what counts.

If REAL men, like you describe, ran the world, we'd all be dead because they would have killed each other off wrestlin' and all that.

It is an issue. I am the creative intellectual type but that persona is not as popular as a manly man. Your thoughts about manly men?

That's the type of man that I am SO NOT attracted to, but who cares.

Well, unless you're looking to score with your sister-in-laws, then it shouldn't matter much what they think, should it? :)

If popularity is that important to you, then change. I learned a long time ago to stop worrying about what other people thought of me, especially family. It's a very liberating experience. Or you can spend your life trying to redefine yourself to meet the ever changing standards of each group you encounter. JMO, but that seems to be a huge waste of energy.

I agree with that.
