They Lost My Daughter!!!!!!!

THAT is exactly why I WILL NOT let my kids ride the bus. I had to change my shift at work in order to take them and pick them up, but I feel like it is worth it for peace of mind.

It totally agree.

My DS is starting 5th grade in 2 weeks, and he has never taken the bus to school. It takes me 5 minutes to get to the school, and they wanted him outside the house an hour before school starts. Why waste an hour on the bus? This way I also have peace of mind.

So scary:eek:!!! I freak out when my DD walks to far ahead of me at the mall.

I am just so glad this had a good ending for you. Mistakes like this are not suppossed to happen and on top of that mistakes like this should be taken alot more seriously at the school.

Well, at least everything ended well and you know your DD is safe.

I friend of mine waited for her kindergartener to get off the bus and he never did. She called the school and the teacher said she put him on the bus. After calling all the neighbors and searching the neighborhood, the bus driver found him sound asleep in the last seat at the back of the bus.

It was a happy (kind of funny) ending but it was very scary while we where searching for him!:D

another update, I came home from Cams football to a message from his teacher ( she called at 7 PM and left her cell number in case I wanted to call her back) apologizing profusely and assuring me it would never happen again. She was really worried about Kaylee, and me, she said that now she KNOWS where she belongs and would personally see to it that it never happens again. She said that the problem was both buses come to XX ( my) street but they are seperate subdivisions that dont connect. So when the bus driver that she was standing next to said that she went to XX street she thought it was the right one. To give them some amount of credit, the fact that my street is now part of the new subdivision is a new thing. It used to end with my court but they picked it up for the new subdivision for some reason. It confuses everyone!

Anyway, I was impressed that the teacher made the effort to check on us. I will also tell you that the secretary called this afternoon to make sure we got it all straightened out and Kaylee was ok.

Im still angry and still have not heard back from the bus barn. Somebdy dropped the ball here and while Im not happy about it at least they are trying to make amends and make sure that it wont happen again.

Im just very happy that its over and that shes home. She is begging to ride the bus again tomorrow I will be right on top of it I can guarantee you and I know what to do should, God Forbid, it ever happen to me or anyone else again.

BTW I asked her how her day was and she said " GREAT! I got to ride the schoolbus!!" LOL

Go ahead and cry, binny! Thank goodness you got her safe and sound...no thanks to them!

As a bus driver for a large urban school district, I can tell you
that it's the teacher's responsibility to get children on the correct
buses. In Columbus, children wear their bus color to and from
school for the first two weeks until everyone knows where they
go. K teachers are responsible for getting children on the correct
bus as bus drivers do not get complete or accurrate lists of children's names. People move at the last minute, neglect to
advise the school system of their new address and just put kids
on the buses in the morning. Sometimes, one driver picks them up and one takes them home. Sometimes, a driver is sick and
a sub does not know who children are nor have time to check because if we are late due to these kinds of things-parents panic.
The only way I would allow my K child to ride a school bus in the
first weeks would be to personally follow the bus there and back or have a sibling with them making sure they get on and off.
Sometimes siblings totally ignore each other though, really!
My son does not ride the bus.
I am so sorry you had this horrible experience. Her teacher is
the one putting her on the bus and should have a list including
each child and what route/bus number they ride. Because the
driver was not familiar with the children and because many people
do not have their young children ride in the first few weeks,
the bus driver was correct in telling you what she would have done had you not tracked her down. Make sure your children
have their name, address and phone numbers in their backpack
AND memorized. That way a bus driver will always be able to
identify them to the supervisors and find out where they belong.

I AM SO HAPPY we live in a small town and my girls do not ride the bus!!! I drop my girls off and pick them up, NO confusion there!!! I would HATE the thought of my girls going on a bus to and from school. I guess that stems from not having to ride a bus when I was in school!!!

So glad your daughter had no idea what was going on!! At least it was easier for her!

we are moving within the week and my kids will be picked up right in front of the driveway! Now if we would have moved to the area that had more houses I would have been really scared!

Thanks everyone, Ive calmed down quite a bit now. I still cant get a hold of the bus barn though so Im saving some of my anger for when (if?) they ever call me back.

When I talked to the head of busing when they lost my DD, she told me that it was my DD's fault. She bascially reprimanded me because we had not gone over a plan as a family concerning what to do if the bus misses a stop. Mind you, my DD was in first grade. I replied that I never even considered the fact that the bus system would be so inept that they could lose a child! I was fuming! I'm glad the teacher called to apologize. She must have felt awful. In my DD's case the teacher had nothing to do with it. Thank goodness your DD is safe.

YIKES! Well I am on both sides here...DD starts kindgarten next week...my last one off to school. But I also drive a school bus. I dont drive big bus anymore, but special needs, but I did driver big bus for many years. We always had a list of our Kindergartners and they all wore name tags. The school department never saw fit for us to get the list of names of our other students.
As for the poster whose got a child going to public school on a sped bus...I do it all the time.I am sure he will be just fine as I have never had an intance where a teacher or aid did not come out and meet the bus and walk the child into school and also walk him out in the afternoon.
To the op...I am so sorry that happened I know how scary it is as my son did not get off his bus one day (LONG STORY...my moms fault lol). The lack of concern by the school is unbelievable!
