They have begun deleting inactive players!

But still, if there are accounts that haven't been active for a long time its just a waste. Lots of people have like 20 accounts or more and don't even use most of them. Its just a waste. There are people on VMK who have inactive friends and the VMKers dont know that some people might not even be on anymore. I have many people on my friends list that have been inactive since like September and its wasting space on my friends list. Even though some might be really good friends, its still a waste to keep them on, obviously showing they won't even get back on. For all I know they might have made a new name (see?) and stopped using their old one.

***My opinion..not trying to stir up an argument.
If it's just wasting space on your friends list, then just remove them from your friends list. VMK shouldn't need to delete actual accounts for you to have a pruned friends list....that's something you can do yourself. :)

What a heartbreak!!
Yes, I do understand their need to delete obvious mule accounts that are not being used however....
I got out my list tonight and started on my DD accounts. Her first born in park character.. gone! The only saving grace on that one is, I renamed the character and logged it in, and its as if it was born in park. It has ears, extra room, pin and turnstyle. For some weird reason they didn't delete the credits either, but I'm sure this character had items on it too, but I have no idea what. Now on to the real heartbreak.. I go on to another of DD accounts, her very first character, with day one badge.. gone! :sad1: no more kittendance :guilty: Granted she hasn't played on that character for a while, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been 6 months! I don't like this one bit. There are lots and lots of kids who do not have the time to log in and play during the school year as much. Even though she hasn't played on this character for a while, this is going to upset her, I know it is. It was her first character with day one badge! I'm not looking forward to telling her. :sad2: Sorry.. but VMK, this is just too mean spirited!

Edit to add.. This is too sad, almost all her costumes and hats were on one of those deleted characters, along with any pins she had collected :(

Jewel

I am going to have to agree with you here. :sad2:

No brownie points for this move.

For a game that began as being geared towards kids, it sure feels like it's becoming less kid friendly. Account deletions may be annoying and even upsetting to adults...but I can only imagine how heartbreaking it would be for a child who doesn't understand why they just lost everything because they don't have the freedom to come on as often as an adult would.

Thank you Mal and Mary, I appreciate your empathy. I am just dreading telling her about this. Last year on her birthday, she got her black mickey ear hat taken from her in VMK because she was too trusting of another player, a lesson hard learned. Now her birthday is rolling around again in two weeks and this time its VMK thats taken her belongings out from under her. Even though she may not have logged on often, she did log in and play on occasion. She only had three characters! Her original, then a park charcater a family friend made her, and another park character she made herself at the park. I really don't think that is excessive. I'm writing in about this. Thanks again for listening to the rantings of an upset mummy!

I don't understand; how did you rename a character that had been deleted? Did it give you that option on the screen when you first tried to log in?

Thanks for the memories VMK and Yavn. It can certainly be said that this game has changed my life forever. It took away one love and brought another. I will never forget the great times with friends hanging out in Central Plaza when that was all there was to do. Waiting with many friends for the parade that never happened or in my room for a staff to come in that first event. I will never forget my first dance with Yavn or finding love on a corner in VMK. My favorite place in VMK will always be the Elephant Bathing Pool... So many memories. A little known secret is that I was the first to receive the princess hat. A gift from Yavn. I showed it to a few, but only in my trade box as I was instructed not to wear it before its release. I may also be one of only a handful of players that actually got a friend request from Yavn, LOL And, may be the only player to deny him at first. I thank you Yavn for the many lunches and strolls through VMK and the opportunity to sit in your rooms and answer questions for you while you were busy in trade or doing other things. I loved that. I also thank you for all that you did. So many gifts were given to me by so many good friends. I am grateful to each of you for your kindness. I never took any of those gifts for granted. Each one was special, and NO not just the shoes!! LOL Did I just say shoes...Faint... So many wonderful memories...HEART

I'm sorry but what does this have to do with anything on this thread??:confused3  :confused3

I don't understand; how did you rename a character that had been deleted? Did it give you that option on the screen when you first tried to log in?

I think what she's saying is even though the character had been deleted, the screen let her "create" another one, hence the renaming. Same email account, same log in info, but different character now.

I have to say, I'm rather disgusted by this. Namely because I think there's ulterior motives to it. Now, maybe they do just want to free server room or whatever up by getting rid of inactive characters. Or maybe, just maybe, this is yet another scheme to get people to play more and more often, just like I think the credits situation (Yeti, fireworks, etc.) is. To keep people hooked and playing the game even more than before.

Well, it ain't working! Not with me, anyway. I've been sick and wasn't even in the game for over a week, and I found I didn't miss it at all, really. I'm just tired of all of it. It's become more and more of a chore than actual fun to play the game, all for the Holy Grail of "Keeping things rare" and reducing credits and whatever else they come up with. They should've posted a notice on the homepage saying this is going to happen on X date, so play any characters you want to keep. But no, of course not. More and more of the trend of not caring how the players feel, and certainly not caring how much they upset children, let alone adults.

I was lucky, as far as I know. I thought I hadn't logged on to one character since July, but I had apparently done one of the August quests on that character, so she wasn't deleted. Haven't checked my lone male character yet, but I last used him in October to buy the crowns. I assume he's still there. It's just ridiculous. The game gets harder and harder, more time consuming, and more of a pain in the neck than actual enjoyment and fun. Seems like quite awhile now since I've had true fun in this game for a sustained amount of time.

After I finish some trades, don't expect to see me around much. I'm just sick of seeing the players come last and decision after decision made that affects people adversely. And I won't let a game ruin my love of Disney, because Disney as a whole is better than some of the stuff done by VMK lately, IMO. :sad2:

I just read a post by someone (on another Disney fan site where they're not much into VMK) who said that he wasn't inactive at all and his character had tons of stuff and rooms but was deleted.

The strange thing is his rooms and furnishings for that character are all still there. He had a mule and had placed teleporters in the first characters rooms so he could go between them and they still work. He said he saw that all his rooms and things from his deleted character are still intact... :confused3

Quite a bit, she is one of my MIA friends that was deleted. She had last logged in in May 2006 and she has kept in touch with some friends but for a variety of reasons was not playing. She found it was the appropriate place to say goodbye and thanks for the memories.

Yes, as SorcererDonald pointed out, they let you create a new character with that same login info. Which to me just defeats whatever they are trying to accomplish in a way, but I gave up trying to figure out any good reason for the way they do things in VMK. If you look on post #18 there is a screen shot of the message you get and you can see the new character screen in the background, maybe that will make it more clear.

And on an even sadder note..
This morning I told my DD of her characters demise. :sad2: At first she took it well, and just said.. Oh well. But then after about a minute when she realized that her day one badge character was gone, the tears came. :sad1: It truly broke my heart. This deleting of characters needed to be given a LOT more thought than they gave it. Making a blanket rule of 6 months, or whatever time frame they used, is way too general. In my opinion (which means nothing apparently to VMK) the accounts which belong to adult players should be targeted if they are trying to delete the mules. I even remember Yavn saying in the newsletter this was talked about in that having a few characters was going to be ok. I really don't think my 9yr old DD having 3 accounts was excessive!! I'm sorry to keep on ranting about this, but thats what happens when someone messes with a Tigress kittens!! GGRRRRRRR  Anyway, thanks for listening all.

Alot of players have come and gone from VMK but this thread is about VMK deleting accts not players who were banned, left for what ever reason or no longer play.

PLEASE KEEP IT ON TOPIC.

Thank you.

Very sad...I had to start deleting friends off my list that were deactivated as they were still on my list last night...all their stuff...gone. :sad2: Why did we not get any warning???

I think this is clearly a response to the number of mules. An attempt to weed out the once-used characters or people who lost interest in the game. I'd much rather have them cure that problem by requiring new accounts to use legitimate email addresses from which an authenticating email can be replied. And if they must purge, accounts a year or more unused should maybe go. Less than that, not so much.

It clearly is that. A little notice would not have been difficult and I do not mean a blurb in the newsletter.

I see a lot of kids being hurt by this and that saddens me.

The mules I have and are now gone, I can live with that. It is my sons and other members sons and daughters extra accts that upsets me.

By the way my DS only has 2 accts. His cousin has one and can only play when he visits us because for some reason VMK will not work on their computer. I am sure his acct is gone and it was a beta acct. :( as was my sons, which is now also gone.

If VMK can not change the damage done with this deletion of accts I hope that in the future they implement some if not all of the suggestions in this thread before they decide to purge again.

Ok I am trying to understand this all.... really I am....

But honestly how can anyone really be all that upset, if in an example above, the person has not been logged into VMK since MAY OF 2005!!!! How attatched were they to VMK?? May of 2005... I just dont see why they or anyone else is upset about that.... And I feel badly that so many are upset about this... (((Hugs)))

I also dont have a big issue with the 6 months time frame someone tossed out. If a kid is only logging in once a year, or in spurts... then how much do they have to loose. I know Mal mentioned loosing a Day One Peep... Well, again, 6 months is a long time to not have anything to do with a peep that one 'cares so much about'

I do agree that VMK should have put forth some guidelines for everyone and let us know what they are, but at the same time, Yavn did say it was coming. (As always in a poor, vauge, and cryptic, way that Yavn is famous for....)

Ok... putting on myflame suit.... fire away...

No flame here.

I still stand by my opinion that kids have other interests, more so than their parents who play vmk and log in each and every day. ;) me included.

What I am saying is that VMK could have handled this better and yes while you do not understand it, kids will be upset to find their characters gone.

What is done is done I am afraid but next time maybe some of the suggestions given here in this thread could be used to avoid hurt feelings.

I do not live behind rosy glasses and I do know that even then some will be upset...I just think trying to avoid upsetting the masses is the way to go.
