They have arrested the 2 men they were looking for..

Thanks for the update, Blondie.

However, more telling than a "law enforcement officer close to the case" is the ACTIONS of the FBI and police. They appear to be in NO HURRY to impound, remove, or even search the blue Chevy Caprice. That, to me, indicates that they feel that they have the shooter in custody. Otherwise, they would be moving much more quickly, before anyone else gets shot.

Just in:

ABC is reporting that a .223 caliber rifle HAS been found in that Caprice . . .

I pray that they are the ones and the nightmare is over....what worries me is the copycats....how many do we have around?

I watched Cheif Moose's briefing last night. It wasn't an hour later that I heard the helicopters overhead. They stayed in the area - not like when they circle every so often when someone important is at Camp David. These guys had to drive right past my house to get from Aspen Hill to the rest area on Rt. 70. My kids were out playing athletic association soccer last night at the Middle school. I really hope this is the end.

Sounds so promising! Boy the suspense is horrible -- I hope we hear some sort of confirmation SOON!

:(

abcnews.com -
ABCNEWS has learned police found a .223-caliber rifle in the same car as the two men they arrested in connection with the sniper killings at a rest area in Maryland overnight.

I hope other islamists don't get any ideas. From their point of view, the snipers executed a very successful operation.

CNN reported just a couple minutes ago that an FBI agent confirmed that John Malvo's (the stepson) prints were found at the Montgomery, Alabama crime scene.

I think that they have more proof that hasn't been made public. Anyone see them arresting the tree last night in Tacoma? I wonder if they got a lot of evidence from that scenario? I also heard on the radio that they knew who they were since Monday, but wanted to be sure that they were the killers. It'll be interesting to hear the other details of their lives.

Sometimes it's not the fact that criminals are smarter than everyone else, just luckier. It looks as if their luck has finally run out! :D

A rifle, scope, and tripod were found in the car...more details on CNN.com

minnie, the tree wasn't "arrested"; it was taken for evidence. It is believed to have been used for target practice. I'm sure they are trying to get ballistic evidence from it.

Too bad the military wasn't permitted to catch them. They would have taken care of them. Instead, they'll have a step up from homelessness to jail. At our expense! Something's wrong with the system.

I have to disagree with you, Laureen.

I work with a number of former prosecutors. they tell me that most criminals get caught because: they're sloppy and make mistakes; someone turns on them and rats them out; or they can't keep their big mouths shut about what they've done.

in this case, the sniper has been leaving clues for the police all over the place -- tarot cards, letters, phone calls. they were arrogant enough to ask for money to be wired to a bank account in Jamaica -- one that was easily connected with Malvo.

Son of Sam tormented the police for over a year. remember how he got caught? a simple parking ticket. when he shot one of the victims, he got a parking ticket, and the police knew his car had been in the viscinity of the crime.

Lol, Deb I got that from Howard Stern. I know that ballistics was testing the trees. I also heard that the older man used to shoot in the backyard everyday when he lived there.

Sorry Deb, no more quoting Howard, I promise! :D

I agree BR, good post!:D

Glad you are not mad at me, minnie!! (Seems folks are pretty jumpy around here these days . . . :( )

I must admit, I don't listen to Howard much (at all, actually):p

Lol, Deb I kind of figured you weren't a Howard Stern listener, you're too nice!:D He does kind of joke about innappropriate topics sometimes. I think at first he was just dissappointed when he saw the tree being carted away, as opposed to a live person. :D

Hopefully it's all over, and nothing like this ever happens again!:D
