They fired Santa Claus... at Christmastime!!!

I'm sure there were children waiting in line, but I'm sure that he didn't shout it out for all to hear. I think the fact that he was telling the dirty jokes (and they really weren't all that dirty) where he was actually enhanced the jokes. If it had been a private adult party the comments would be expected. It's the fact that here is a beloved children's character at a department store saying this to you that makes it funnier. Of course, I have a sense of humor, and can appreciate a store Santa that actually has a sense of humor.

I have a sense of humor too, in fact its a pretty sick one however I do also have a sense of appropriateness. Now if you want to have a nice looking young man in his late 20's wearing nothing but a Santa hat saying that while I'm sitting on his lap, I'm all for it. But if I was sitting on a 68 year old man lap and he said that I'd be creeped out, but thats just me.
As far as Macy's I don't think they would appreciate either choices

Do people really think it's all that "creepy" for an adult (and I guess I'm thinking specifically women) to sit on Santa's lap? (If "yes", then I agree. LOL) I mean, isn't it like having your picture taken with Mickey Mouse, or some other Disney character, at WDW? Just kidding around? A gag thing, maybe with a picture? It's not like they're sitting on some old random guy's lap in a restaurant or something.

And no, I don't go around sitting on store Santas' laps. I've got a life long Santa phobia. And I wouldn't wait in a kids' line to see a Disney character, but DH and I did do a photo session (free coupon ;)) with Mickey/Minnie.

As far as his naughty boys and girls comment...eh, a little creepy. I can see how society has evolved over the years, becoming more aware of inappropriate behavior and not feeling as comfortable with a statement like that anymore. I don't think it was worthy of firing tho.

MaryAnnDVC - A life long Santa phobia? That must have been even more horrifying back when you still thought he was real.

I think it would be easier to understand Santa's comments if we put oursELVES in his boots. Think about it. If an adult approached you to sit on your lap, wouldn't you kind of assume that this person had a sense of humor? - just the fact that a grown adult was coming to visit Santa. Sure, the jokes were inappropriate, but I feel that it was perfectly appropriate to tell inappropriate jokes in that situation.

And I didn't find the comments creepy. He obviously was talking about adults, not children.

The article I read a few days ago said someone down the street had already hired him - at twice the rate he was getting at Macy's.

And I agree with a PP - I think his "joke" was creepy. I wouldn't have said anything to Macy's and I don't think it is firing worthy, but I do find is creepy.

I also heard he said, "Too long" in a rude way so she had to report him to the store and the corporate office.

the article said "when asked why Santa is so jolly, he would say because I know where all the naughty boys and girls live" If this adult couple was not expecting a joke, why in heaven's name would they ask him why he is so jolly?

Its a joke between adults, for heavens sakes. He wasn't telling jokes to kids only to adults. That has to be the dumbest reason for firing someone I have ever heard.

He is going to be on Jay Leno tonight.
Firing may have been the best thing that happened to him:lmao:

I must either be really dense or really warped. I see absolutely nothing wrong with what he supposedly said.

You are neither! There is nothing wrong with what he said.

Agreed. Stop and think. When you're (any "you") going out with friends, or your spouse or significant other is, do you say, "I'm going out with the women/men"? Or do you say, "I'm going out with the girls (guy)", or - women referring to men and their buddies, do you refer to them as "the men" or "the boys"? Truthfully? More than anything, it's just speech habits.

He's perfect for the Jay Leno show, none of the jokes on that show are funny

Do you find anything funny with what he said?

Well, since I don't understand the fuss I guess I do find it funny. Think about the song Santa Claus is Coming to Town. One of the lines in the song refers to naughty or nice.
