THEY changed my flight, can I get a refund?

I booked our flights for September with Delta due to finding a direct flight from KC. A couple of weeks ago they cancelled the direct flight and routed us on new flights with a change of planes in Atlanta. That is exactly what I was trying to avoid since I have 2 young grandsons going with us. Now SW has a sale on direct flights (much cheaper). If I call Delta will I be able to get a refund since They changed my flights and aren't offering the direct flight I had booked? Any experience with this anyone?

Earlier this year I had the same experience with airtran for August. When I called them they agreed to refund since they could not provide a direct flight anywhere close to the time of day I wanted (they changed it by over 6 hours). I have since received the full amount of credit on my credit card and booked on southwest for half the price and still got direct flights. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Make sure you ask for customer service not reservations.

It wasn't the lack of direct flight that got you the refund, it was the major time change.

What were your original departure and arrival times? If they haven't changed by two hours, then you won't likely get a refund. You booked passage with the airline. They agreed to get you from point "A" to point "B" within a certain time frame. They gave you no promise that you would have no plane change. Flights change all the time, and contracts of carriage are very explicit about these things.

Woo Hoo, I was able to get a refund. I have re-booked on SW direct flights for a savings of $160 (for 4 pax). They did say that since they couldn't provide a non-stop flight (like I had originally booked) that I could get a refund. Yes, my flight times were very different too. Anyway, I'm pleased! I was dreading trying to drag 2 little boys through the Atlanta airport and make connections in 45 minutes. The BIGGEST thing to me is the non-stop flights. The savings is nice, but it wasn't my driving force! Thanks for your help!

Atlanta's not the airport you want to drag kids through... it's a train to everything....Glad you got the refund.
