Because of this, he once proposed a 50-cent gas tax increase. Kerry said that he supports increasing fuel economy standards to 36 miles per gallon by 2015 in order to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil. He also said that he has talked to Ford about making a hybrid car his new “campaign car.”

During a conference call the same day, Kerry was asked whether he owned a Chevrolet Suburban. He replied, “I don’t own an SUV…the family has it. I don’t have it.” Did they give you a ride to the Earth Day rally?

Comments #1 and #2 are not contradictory. The world can be a better place without Saddam in power, but if one feels the cost of war is higher than the benefits received from ousting him, then one is correct in stating that it wasn't worth it.

Comments #3 and #4 are not contradictory. Voting for a bill that promises something and then complaining when actual events don't deliver on the promises is not contradictory.

Comments #5 and #6 could possibly be contradictory, but the proper context shows that the two are not related. In 1992 Kerry's full quote: "We do not need to divide America over who served and how. I have personally always believed that many served in many different ways. Someone who was deeply against the war in 1969 or 1970 may well have served their country with equal passion and patriotism by opposing the war as by fighting in it. Are we now, 20 years or 30 years later, to forget the difficulties of that time, of families that were literally torn apart, of brothers who ceased to talk to brothers, of fathers who disowned their sons, of people who felt compelled to leave the country and forget their own future and turn against the will of their own aspirations?"

shows that he is refering to the divided nature that opposing viewpoints created in our country. By questioning Clinton's "draft-dodging" people were renewing the debates and opening old wounds. In 2004 Kerry has used his Vietnam service as an example of his leadership abilities. He is not using it in the negative manner he condemned in 1992. A contadictory statement would be one where Kerry is questioning Bush's Vietnam service.


Comments #7 and #8 are not contradictory. Kerry's action was to enact legislation to curb the use of oil. His inaction was that he did not refuse to ride in a vehicle that someone else owned that uses a lot of gasoline. While the moral high ground would be to refuse to drive in a Suburban, unless you are riding a bike around everywhere you don't have any moral ground to stand on in questioning Kerry. Assuming the Suburban was full the difference in gas consumption between a Suburban and a more fuel-efficient Minivan on a single trip would be very negligable. In fact, if he was staying with his family and the Suburban was already there, then it would most likely require less gas to drive the Suburban than to have a more fuel-efficient vehicle drive to the house. If this is a case of flip-flopping, then there isn't a man that has ever lived that wasn't a flip-flopper.

Lazy pasting of quotes that aren't even contradictory does nothing to help your cause. At the very least you could add a commentary explaining how the sets of comments are contradictory, but that would require effort and thinking, at which point you would realize that the case you are trying to make is extremely weak.

The bill would provide $10.3 billion as a grant to rebuild Iraq, including $5.1 billion for security and $5.2 billion for reconstruction costs. It also would provide $10 billion as a loan that would be converted to a grant if 90 percent of all bilateral debt incurred by the former Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein has been forgiven by other countries. Separate provisions limit reconstruction aid to $18.4 billion. He also said he does not want a release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. A release ‘is not relevant.
