I never tried on black velvet. Besides, everyone knows the best black velvet paintings are sold at the side of run-down gas stations.

I LOVED doing these.
I got my best results by using toothpicks for the very small areas.
My mom still has a few that I did

The girls had a couple of the big posters I did up on their walls; fairytale themed, if I remember correctly. LOL

I couldn't get into Paint by Numbers, felt so restrictive. I didn't know they had black velvet ones!

Then there's the fuzzy velvet marker sets, which I believe have been around for at least a few decades.
I don't recall ever trying these, but boy are they familiar:

I just found this one, and I think I want it. I could color these and donate them to the local church:

I think I may have done a couple of the paint by number ones too, but I definitely remember doing the velvet market ones!

I did the paint by number but not the velvet ones. I have a brother who is an artist and I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler.

Speaking of velvet paintings, do you know how hard it is to find a velvet Elvis now days. I'm a fan of Elvis, don't judge I'm a child of the 60s, so have always joked I wanted one. So hubby went on a quest. The only one we have ever found is hanging on the wall of a chicken restaurant here. I've tried to get him to steal it while I distract everyone but he won't go for it. By the way, that's just a joke, I'd never try to distract anyone while hubby stole something, he would be on his own.

I’ve never done paint by number, but as a kid, I loved color by number. We’d get kits from a company called Venus Paradise, that came with a set of beautiful colored pencils.

Paint by number is my favorite thing this summer! I’m currently working on a Van Gough replica that’s ridiculously hard with tiny little spaces. But I like the challenge and the intricate work. Here’s the one I just finished. It’s a bunny, of course!

Paint by Number - hearing that conjures up the smell of the paint in those little jars. Also the books where you painted with water. Those were fun.

Picasso!!

My mom did paint by numbers, late 50's, early 60's. No velvet that I recall. She also did ceramics for a number of years when those were popular. Most were very nice.

I was always receiving paint by number kits because "you're an artist so you'll really enjoy it!" Ehhhhh, not so much.
