Well, being young at the time, and having rarely been out of the state of Arkansas, not to mention out of my small town. It was a little shocking to see the PDA. Nothing terrible just some hand holding, hugging, and a few little kisses. For me at the time it was eye popping... Now it would be nothing. I had just never been exposed to that before, I was a very naive small town girl.
That being said, I think the way Gay Days are normally set is that the group attends a certain park each day. Like Tuesday would be Animal Kingdom Day, Wednesday would be Epcot day, etc.
When we were there we just hopped to a different park and avoided the crowd. (Just like we do for vacations, now, we try to attend the least crowded park. Like avoiding MGM on a Fantasmic night.)
Now, I would imagine that attendance would be much higher now, than it was in 1992.
Don't you think it would be?
Talk about an eye popping experience. . . One evening in January we had just finished dinner at the GF. We took the monorail to MK and then got in line for the CBR bus. We were pretty far back in the line but could see the very front of the line. Right there for everyone to see was 2 young ladies going at it pretty hard.

Now that is not something you see everyday (or pretty much ever) around here.
A funny Gay Days story. I remember DS10's 2nd grade teacher telling me that they accidentally went on Gay Days and happened to be in the wrong park at the wrong time. And apparently they were all wearing red shirts. And here was her husband with a big ole red shirt on!!
