Thankyou Theresa, you have given me some good ideas

1. I will pay myself £25 per week - this will be our spending money
2. Any savings at the end of a reciept I will put in a jar, its not save unless its saved.
3. going to try the no spend days - this is going to be really hard as its our school holidays now.

I have also thought that I may calculate how many days it is until we go back to the world next October, then divide into how much we need to spend on the different attraction tickets and put that amount in a tin every day, it works out something like £2.20 a day, which is easier to find than £1000 - so if I do these few things we could have enough for spending money and for our tickets.

I will have to hide the jars/tins my other half makes fun of me when I save in these, he reckons we should just save in our bank account....like thats going to happen!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

It is so much easier to put alittle away in a jar or somewhere other than a bank account.I have to hide it too!!! From the kids. I hide snacks too..... If I see something on sale I will buy extra and hide it so we can have it in the parks or just for a later date.

T, you just need to come up with an idea for those of who never, ever have cash....:rolleyes1

I love Theresa's saving ideas. The only way I can ever save money is if it's for Disney trips. Then I'm a real squirrel and I stash money in various places that no one else knows about. I linked an automatic savings to my checking account that puts a dollar in every time I use my debit card. It adds up fast!

I loved the saving segment as well. I got that field agent app and love it. Thanks T.

We have a giant bottle on DH's dresser that we put al change in at the end of the day. It is almost full so I will take it to the bank with the change counter on Monday and then start all over again. I also plan on putting some money away each week for the cruise next year!

I pay myself $75 a week, plus $1 for every mile that I run... I have saved about $2500 since I started doing this in January, which is going to completely pay for our honeymoon.

WOW!!! $75!!!!!! that is amazing. You gave me an idea. $1 for every mile!!!! since I don't run or walk I could pay myself $1 for every time I ride my bike or every chore I do around the house. I do it for the kid's when they help out , why not me too!!!!

I was going to start paying myself $1 per mile, too.
We have a change jar and just cashed it in for $120. Not a ton but it will go towards souvenirs for the kids on our trip next month (and maybe something for me, too! :thumbsup2 ).
I really enjoy the money saving tips. I still do some online surveys (not very often since I work full time and have 3 kids) and have enough for two $25 Disney gift cards for our trip. I'll use some of the change $$$ from the jar to buy a $25 gift card for my 3rd child. That's their "fun" money for whatever they want to buy on the trip.

For those of us that live in bottle deposit states.
I put all the $ I get back when I return bottles and cans into my vacation piggy bank.
I also put all the $ from redeemed coupons in it too.
Recently I used a 20% off coupon to buy new luggage - I had to get $ from the ATM to get the cash I needed to put in the piggy bank from that purchase

Great segment, Teresa. Love hearing your money saving tips. Keep them coming.

:hippie:

We made an effort a year or two ago to not spend change. At the end of every day all the change went into a big Water Jug (harder to get out). We would also check our wallets and if we were low on cash and needed to go to the ATM anyway we would put the rest of the money in the jar too. In less than a year we had over $600 and we did not really miss much.

I think I will try it again and see how much I can save till DAP.

Thanks Teresa, I really enjoyed your money saving tips, keep them coming. :thumbsup2

I also pay myself but I don't ever have cash either. I set up an automatic transfer after each biweekly paycheck that goes directly into a higher rate intenet based savings account. Since it is automatic I makes me get my deposit into my checking fast and it comes right off the top. I have been doing it for years and can honestly say I never miss it and have accumulated a nice little emergency/extra stuff fund. Having it taken out automattically also doesn't give you the option of "skipping" a pay yourself :)

I use the envelope system. I think this works well for planners. I put together individual envelopes for specific things we want to do on our trip like a dinner at a nice restaurant or a shore excursion on a cruise. I also put envelopes for items like transportation to the airport or tickets. I write the event on the envelope along with an estimated amount of money I think it will cost. Then as I have an extra dollar or a Disney card I put them in the envelope. When the amount in the envelope matches the estimated amount listed on the front I seal the envelope and move on to the next envelope. I have a fancy little box that I keep all the envelopes in. I love it when doing final preparing for a trip to have those sealed envelopes knowing these events are paid for.

Happy saving.

Carol
It's a great day to be alive!!!

I absolutely love this idea! :thumbsup2 I usually use envelopes and count out money for transportation, but have never saved doing it this way. I think I will start doing so. Thanks for this, Carol!

I like the idea of paying myself for miles. Since I'm just walking right now, I think I'll start at a dollar a mile. When I make it to a run, I'll kick it up to 2 dollars a mile. Extra motivation!

Nikki! Hi! Here is what I do since I'm one to never have cash! I have 2 checking accounts, one is my savings for bills and groceries, the other is the one I use for emergencies and Disney money (as well as Wells Fargo save as you go account.) I put money in each weekly, to pay and save, use no cash and CARRY my lunches for the week to do no buy days...I have saved enough this year to pay out a wad in repair bills on different vehicles in cash, a 3k vacation to WDW and have mad money!!!! We could afford to do Disney in more style but choose the Fort because we adore it and love the fact after commando days in the parks we can drive to our door and hop into shower and pj's...our own beds!!!To spoil ourselves we don't cook! so little cleaning is required and that is great but we have anything from home with us we usually need so we don't forget to pack and have missed expensive items to buy when down there!!! It saves a bundle in surprise expenses!!!:hippie:
