Two nights, I was getting ready to cook some banana bread and without warning the oven begins shooting sparks/flames across the kitchen. We managed to kill the breaker but now the oven has gone to oven heaven. We find the one we want. A nice Frigidaire with convection but we can't get it till January!! Please explain to me why it would take so long.... I mean seriously does anyone know what could possibly take so long for me to get it.

Our oven did this a month ago. We decided to just replace the heating element instead of buying a new one. Maybe you could that until your new one arrives?

No clue why it would take so long, have you tried different places to see if they have a different time frame? Ours went out about 3 yrs ago. An error message that would have cost me over $250 to fix on a 20 yr old stove. Instead we went to the Sears scratch and dent and bought a new one for $275. They were having a 75% off sale! Took home that night and got it installed over the weekend. I love my new stove and oven!!

It's over 25 years old so it's done its service :) It was seriously freaky. I never knew an oven could become a firecracker. The whole thing is black on the inside. We've tried a few places now and it keeps coming back to a 6 week wait. They said it's a new model so I guess that could be it but I'm not shelling out the money until it's within a two week window.

Have you looked at an appliance store , not Best Buy or Sears, etc., but strictly an applicance store? They may have more in stock. Just a thought..

Maybe get a temporary oven at Salvation Army, Good Will, St. Vincent De Paul, etc. for a few bucks so that you can still cook over the holidays. Then, you can donate it back when your new one arrives. :thumbsup2

My oven did the exact thing just over a month ago. Its over 30 years old and original to our house and we were able to find a heating element online for $30 and its now working fine! I would love to replace it but its actually built into both the kitchen cabinets and the counter top and the space is too small for current ovens, we will have to completely remodel the kitchen to replace it!

I also had to replace our heating element, I called an actual appl store and got it for $26.00, of course you would also have to clean the oven!

This happened to our oven as well. it wasnt a simple fix of replacing the element. the whole oven needed rewiring, it was fried.
we bought a new one. ordered from home depot online, on a sunday, it was in my kitchen that wednesday :)

Update! It turns out that the oven I want is a new model that just started production.

Is your heart set on that exact oven? Then there isn't much you can do. But you may want to consider last year's model or a different company that is already in production for its 2010 models. Or if you find it on display in a store, make them an offer they can't refuse! Otherwise, it looks like you will be using a roaster and toaster oven. I've done it when we lived in a studio that didn't have an oven. For two of us. It was a pain! I can't imagine trying to entertain that way without purchasing a lot of premade items.

Just be inventive.
We actually deep fry our Turkey, They do have oil less fryers out at Home Depot etc.

The baked items, as baked potatoes, and such I do on the stove.

One year on T-day my oven element went.
I switched everything to stove top...well the turkey went next door.
I even used the stove for the homemade stuffing, pineapple upside down cake mix, the pies i ran out and bought baked ones early.

The rolls I could not bake but I put a bit of butter in the pan and placed the clover leaf rolls top down and warmed like that.

The stove was in shifts it was soooo packed by the time I did the gravy..
That was the year I found out Gee there is canned gravy....When I got the pies I found the gravy jars.

Some of the most memorable holiday meals have been the ones we had so much snow the power was out....that was a gas stove, and a wood burning side too....the old beast.

We had 18" of snow and lots of inventive ideas to finish supper.
We even ate paper plates as no power no hot water either. That was the most frustrating. We used brown N bags at the time for the turkey so that pan was good to go....
Until the dog ate the bag.....whole other story how we discovered were it went

Hoping for a happy day and lots of memories.

You could also consider a "grilled" Christmas. Especially if you have a largish grill and live somewhere warm. I'd go for a "pick a different model" solution - and even then, you might not have it by Thursday.

DH and I figured out another solution for Thanksgiving. We're going to a country club for their buffet. Christmas is easy; we're not home!

Have you tried looking on Craigslist? Maybe you can find a really cheap one - $50 - that will hold you until the one you really want arrives. I mean, you have to bake Christmas cookies in something!:cutie:

We ordered one from Lowes a few years ago....our old one fried less than a week in to our home and it was an older oven they no longer made LOL so we cooked in our toaster oven and convection microwave. It took a few weeks to arrive as it was a special order, and then when it did arrive it was damaged in shipment :( So they sent it back and ordered another....another week or two and then that one also arrived with a dent in the side...ugghhhh. They said they'd take a percentage off if we would take that one and ya know what...we did. I was so tired of not having an oven. It is also a frigidaire, the side by side with the griddle in the center and 4 stovetop eyes. The larger oven and then a smaller oven to the side....I'm glad we ordered it, hopefully you'll be just as happy with yours when it arrives :)

Could you rent one for the short term? You could call a place like AaronRents, or Rent-a-Center, and just have it in your home until the new one is in stock. It isn't a cheap solution, but it might be worth it to carry you through the holiday season and then get the model that you want.

A few years ago our's did the same thing right after Christmas (when the money was GONE). We had to live for a couple of months without the oven. The stove top worked, which helped. Also, I had a nesco type 18qt roaster oven. I used it a bunch and it worked great. They have the 18qt roaster ovens on sale for about $30 everywhere right now...go buy one and it will help hold you over. They come in really handy too.
