There Are Two Ways to Travel

My mother used to say there were two ways to travel: first class, or with children. I am knee deep in the "with children" category. Trip to WDW, 5 nights at Shades of Green with a total of ten extended family members is cancelled hours before leaving, after a year of planning, because of virus to my nephew in NJ. As my sister is the DoD employee, I cannot go with DW and DS because we cannot stay at SOG w/o Sis. Rest of the on-property is booked, except All Stars which just is not the style of accomodation we prefer for a trip of this nature, and we definitely want to be on property. Could probably do the Dolphin/Swan, but at much higher cost than the SOG (and that is with getting the AAA or Teacher's rate), and the whole let down of not seeing far away family. UGH!!!

Bright Side (there is one?)--Minimal $ lost in the deal (I'm fairly sure we've eaten a night's cancellation deposit). And just now, ball-parking what the total cost of the trip would have been, we are toying with the idea of booking a DCL 4 night cruise on the Wonder over MLK weekend to make up for this. Which would be 10 weeks before a 7 night DCL cruise on the Magic that we booked over a year ago. With any luck my own DS will continue his own good health and that trip, though with a child, can be First Class.

I'm sorry your trip got cancelled, but the "first class or with children" line did make me smile! We have 4 kids, the youngest is 6, and my DH keeps asking "when does this empty nest thing start?" LOL. I hope your nephew is okay and you get to re-schedule real soon:)

It's not a cancellation, but a postponement. Just get rid of that first countdown and plan away for your next one. I hope your DN comes around quickly.

Blessings to you and keep looking on the bright side. :teeth:

Emotional roller coaster today and many thanks for kindness expressed in responses. Yes, it is just a postponement of the next Disney experience, that was said well. Just as I believe that 3 or 4 night cruises are perfect intros to cruising (well, 3 seems too short entirely, but...) and are also excellent places to book 7 night cruises. DisSis just called--DN feeling better, but their postponement is to a date to be decided. Its Jersey week so they have a few days off anyway, they'll find something fun more suitable to a recovering 7 year old.

Additional silver lining--would have had to pay for diet cokes at WDW, not on the Wonder (I know, except at the bars or room service--I can walk over to the drink station on 9 just fine thanks).

I hopefully got the timers updated correctly below, and have both a Wonder and a Magic cruise in the next 5 months--"my oh my what a wonderful day, plenty of sunshine headin' my way, zippity doo dah, zippity-ay"

(Now back to practicing law and writing threatening letters and billing time....)

You've got TWO Disney trips planned for one year! :D I've only got one planned for 2006...how truly blessed you are! :teeth:

So happy to read that your spirits are up. Keep the faith!

Denise
