So my dr said I should get therapeutic massage therapy to help speed the healing with my foot. GREAT! I get dr ordered foot massage--what could be better! Insurance doesn't pay for it, but he referred me to a place with great prices.

So I look forward to my wonderful foot massage for 3 days. Yesterday I was on my feet more than usual figuring that the massage would take care of any pain.

So in a go and after going over the basics she says "Now, they did tell you to take pain medicine before you come in, right?"

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

NO!

Apparently there is a big difference between therapeutic massage and relaxation massage!

A massage that requires you to take pain meds for, is not a massage I want. A massage is to make me feel better, not hurt more.

But then again, they do say no pain, no gain. So, how badly did it hurt?

It was painful. But she was nice enough to stop and go to a different spot when I screamed! She is breaking up scar tissue and helping to stretch all the messed up stuff and relax the muscle that got moved around during surgery so I guess I can understand why it hurt. It just was not what I was expecting!

I had to ice it for 2 hours when I got home and am still in more pain today then I was before. But as you say, no pain no gain. She said we have to do the painful stuff before we can get to the better stuff.

It was kind of funny because this is a massage center with relaxing music playing when you enter--very fru fru decor. The room was dark with just a soft light and a pink sheet on the table when I entered. But for me the overhead light had to be turned on so she could see what she was doing very clearly and instead of being relaxed my whole body was tensed up as she worked. I said that next time I am going to get a full body massage after the foot massage just to help me recover!

I had massage therapy after I tore ligaments in my arm... yep, it hurt! But they are breaking down scar tissue that can wrap around nerves and be really painful... in the end you'll be glad you did this!

Yikes, Scrappy, that sounded painful...but as other posters have said it will help in the long run!!! ::yes::

I notice your ticker....will you be ok for DISNEY??
