"Then you can stay home, Dad!"

Of course DL can be expensive, I don't disagree with you. What I do want to know is how you went to London for less than DL and what beaches you are going to because I'd like to go there for around $200-300! :)

We went to the beach in San Diego (Coronado Island) for the cost of filling the cooler and a $49 per night rate at the Hilton via Priceline, and we've done several east coast beaches for about the same. Planning ahead with Priceline is always a big help when going to the beach, but we also walked up to a beachfront hotel in Jacksonville and got a room for $70 per night.

As for London, sniping a hotel deal was key and then the rest was just doing cheap entertainment. They do great walking tours around town for about $5, the British Museum can keep you occupied for days, and it is shockingly cheap to get tickets at Wimbledon if you are willing to wait in line. (Helpful queue hint: spring for a taxi to take you out to the line right before the tubes open so you beat most of the crowd but you don't have to sleep outside.)

Ahh Priceline, Priceline is not my friend so I'm leery of that. lol That's a great rate at a great hotel tho! Way to go! :) We go to beaches around where we live but they are cold, we've even done beach camping which is windy.......extremely windy, blew my sandwich and chips OFF my plate windy :rotfl: and to camp it was almost the same as staying at the HoJo. lol

So in reality your beach vacation and my DL vacations are about the same price, minus the park tickets which we don't have to buy. :)

How about airfare to London? Didn't that about kill you? I'd love to go there but airfare for 4 is just so far out of my budget it's like a dream that will never come true. lol I'd love to see Wimbledon, that would be so fun! I love tennis. :)

You mean you have to include airfare when calculating the cost of a trip?? No, I don't think so. I think you can just teleport to London and then it's free! No flight costs!
Therefore, London can be done in much less than a DLR trip! Duh!

;)

I take airfare as a wash, because it depends on where you live. If you live in New York City or Washington, D.C., both cities with tons of flights to London every day, you can easily get a seat for less than the cost of airfare from a small midwestern city to Los Angeles. I've flown there for less than $200.

I've flown there for less than $200.

In what era?

I just searched on expedia and for a flight in the middle of September, which I assume is not a busy time, from Washington D.C. it is $728 round trip for 1 adult. In July, I found the rate to be $1132 at the cheapest! I even tried your trusty Priceline and got $676 from D.C. to London in September.

$200? hmmmm

Flights to London for under $200??? How did you do that? Flights from Oakland CA to Long Beach CA (about an hour in the air) are $49 one way. That's $100 round trip per person....

Wow. 200? Even for one way? Did you pay for a stowaway space in cargo? :rotfl2:

Seriously, that's unheard of. I'm curious to know what airline this was. Airlines cannot possibly afford to shuffle someone on a transatlantic flight for 200.
