My daughter starts grade 1 and is full time for the first time. We want to get her one of the themed lunchboxes with a smal thermos inside (the ones I used as a kid in the early 80's) but can't find them anywhere! We've checked Walmart, Sears etc. All we can find are the lunch bags (that don't have thermos) or the heavy duty lunchboxes that adults would use with the stainless steel thermos.

Maybe places are out because it's school time, but the salespeople don't seem to know what I'm referring to!

Any suggestions on where to find theM?

Good luck finding them. I don't think they come as a set anymore. All I've ever seen are lunch boxes with water bottles.

You may have to buy a seperate thermos. That is what I did for my DGD except I ended up just getting a plain one.

I haven't seen them in years..... I know what you are talking about though. I had them also.

The lunch bags are actually better though because they are insulated. You can get a Thermos brand "funtainer" for drinking from. They come in cute things like High School Musical, Barbie, Batman, Spiderman, etc..

I remember these sets when I was a kid, and unfortunately, they don't have them anymore :sad2: I should get a good thermos for my DD to go with her lunchbox, because I do send SpagettiO's with her sometimes (I have a special thermos bowl for this, but she says that her lunch doesn't stay that warm). Thanks for putting this idea in my head :)

Although not themed, you can still order a lunchbox with a thermos from Lands End. I ordered my daughter a lunchbox from them this year(not w/ themos) it's called the Classmate and we love it. I had her initials put on them and it matches the backpack I ordered from them too. You can have other things embrodered(sp) on them like a puppy, horse, cat, scoccerball or other things. Log on to www.landsend.com and pick out something together, giving her the chance to help pick out her lunchbox will get her excited to use it.

I've found a few of the 'old-style' lunch boxes at Tuesday Morning. They're usually not the newest styles though.

I get my dd who started Kindergarten and my ds who is in preschool Thermos Funtainers...you can get them at Target or ToysRus. They do a great job at keeping their drinks cold. Occasionally, I sent warm food with them and they really do keep the food warm as well.

I bought these Thermos products with the DISNEY Theme: Cinderella and Tinkerbell) and they are absolutely wonderful. We brought the drink thermos to Disney with us to keep our water ICE COLD all day and they work great. My 4 year old could open and close them easily herself. I bought the Thermos food container to hold warm food or even keep her fruit cold which she prefers. We got them at Walmart.

When the Disney store had their backpack and lunch bags on sale we bought the matching pair. The Disney lunchbags are huge and can fit both nicely with room for more.

I remember using the lunchboxes you wrote about in the late 70s! I had a Raggady Ann and Andy set! I loved it! :rotfl:
