After reading the thread about the death in the Contemporary Resort, I got to thinking about what we were told about Disney deaths/ accidents by one of the local cab drivers in Orlando just a few weeks ago. I hate to be morbid, but I guess I found it somewhat interesting too. He told us that Disney purposely tries to keep any deaths out of the public spotlight because they don't want bad publicity (makes sense). He said there are many more deaths in the parks that you don't hear about because of this, but it seems to get around to the Orlando locals.

For instance, he told us that there have been several deaths in the Haunted Mansion. This is because the ride moves along a platform track upward and there's actually a 3-story drop (no solid flooring like you'd think). He said that people have tried to move from one doombuggy to another and they have fallen 3 stories down. He said that one guest in particular got out of his doombuggy to walk over and try to steal the crystal ball and fell 3 stories to his death. When this happens, they have to shut the ride down temporarily, turn on all the lights and take care of the accident. Can you imagine!? Has anybody heard of any weird accidents happening like this? I thought it was spooky/eerie that there are so many in the Haunted Mansion in particular. Y'all just remember... don't get out of your doombuggy and try to walk around!!! :scared1:

*Just wanted to add* He said that most of the deaths/accidents are due to people not following proper safety instructions (standing up on rides, getting out, etc.)

When we were there a few years ago a teenager got killed on the WED people mover because he tried to jump from one car to another when it was moving.......TAZ :scared1:

I can totally belive that there are more deaths than we hear about. :( With the millions of people that visit Disney every year, I don't think it is out of the norm. Especially when you have people jumping around moving vehicles, and not following safety precautions on rides. I am sure Disney doesn't want the bad publicity due to poor choices made by certain people! Not to mention the accidental deaths due to known/unknown health problems.

Also, when it hits the media, you always hear "Another death at Disney" and they dredge up and re-play any story they previously had on people who have died at Disney. I don't know how many times I have heard the one about the person that jumped off Splash Mountain at the top of the drop! :scared1:

yes, there was one death at the haunted mansion for sure about 15 years ago or more, some girl jumping from car to car to scare her friends and it didn't turn out well....

I hadn't heard about the HM death. I did hear about a similar situation on Spaceship Earth, where a crying young child died when the occupants tried to pass him/her from one car to another. Supposedly, that was one of the reasons for the extra warnings that were added a few years ago.

quite annoying warnings I might add

Offically the only person who has died at WDW was Pluto
Disney does not let the coroner procounce then dead there, they are considered to be DOA at the hospital
The only reason Pluto was kill was a car rolled over him and the state police had to come in and document the case

There have been a few people die as of recently there was that kid with teh enlarged heart at epcot on mission to mars
If you do a search you can probably dig up some more

It has nothing to do with Disney "not letting" people be pronounced dead on property but in that attempts are made to resuccitate while in the ambulance in route to a local hospital. Most deaths are "pronounced" at hospitals and not on the scene.

As to the many deaths not heard of this is just false. Disney is news and no amount of attempts on their part to hush up deaths would meet with any success.

Isn't it true of any city anywhere. Aren't doctors the only ones that can pronounce a person dead. Paramedics can't.

For sure? I never heard this before, and a quick Google search didn't provide any confirmation. There have been deaths and injuries when guests have tried to move between Disney ride vehicles, but I don't recall such a death in the Haunted Mansion at DL, WDW, or TDL.

False.

Despite the oft-repeated story that nobody who dies at Disneyland and Walt Disney World is officially declared dead until arrival at a hospital, it's not true. For details, see http://www.snopes.com/disney/parks/declare.htm

Snopes also has an article about guest deaths at Disneyland: http://www.snopes.com/disney/parks/deaths.htm

 There are even morgues on cruise ships. Deaths happen.

Paramedics can't.

Wanna' bet?

Done it lots.................

True. Unless someone is "obviously" dead, eiother from trauma or medical causes, I always attempt resucitation enroute to the Hospital.

Not true in NY, either.

i know by the national qualifications a medic can declare a person dead if they show obvious signs. Dependent Lividity, Rigamortis, obvious signs of death (decapatation).
