I was just at the Magic Kingdom last week. On Thursday (the 4th) we were going to ride Pirates of the Caribbean. We were surprised to find that the attraction was closed. We then learned from a cast member that during the evening on Monday the 3rd someone had gotten out of a boat at the end of the ride and stolen props out of the treasure room at the end of the ride. I don't know how much was stolen but the cast member said they had hoped to have the ride re-opened that evening for the MVMCP. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard about this.

seriously?. i'm shocked!. surely the ride has there props in a safe place, so that the general public can't get at them. also, i think who ever stole it must eiver hate the ride, or just trying to wind the cms up. honestly, what is this world coming to!

Apparently the ride disembark area was backed up so the boats were stopped in the same place for a while. Long enough for someone to get out, grab something and get back in. I'm sure they have cameras throughout the ride and can go back and see what happened but how in the world they'd catch somebody that could be from somewhere as close as Orlando or as far away as Thailand is beyond me. I just hope that it doesn't lead to them putting up barriers that would ruin the view of the scenes in the ride.

eBay.

There's a huge market for this kind of stuff - one that Dinsey created. It started with the "surplus" equipment sales but now includes cast members selling off costumes and people just taking stuff.

Think of it as nothing but a higher class of pin trading.

but my point is, why would anyone want to steal something out the ride?. what use would they have for it?

It was up and running by the 6th...we rode it several times that day (and at MVMCP that night).

Isn't everything at Disney glued, stapled, nailed, duct taped, screwed, bolted, and otherwise fastened down? :confused3

I thought that they had sensors that alerted cm's when people got out of the boat...

That is what I thought too. On Spash mountain they do...
I am glad it is open again, what a fun attraction! :hippie:

If that is true and the ride was backed up, I for one would have told the CM's while embarking the ride. That's just ridiculous!

I guess the alarm is kind of like the machine gunners who were "stationed on top of the White House" and you would be shot if you entered that air space. They never actually put them there until 9/11 - we all just thought they were there.

How would they have carried anything out? It could not have been really big-

. . . but my point is, why would anyone want to steal something out the ride?. what use would they have for it? . . .

1) It is a souvenir.
2) They would have the same use as other souvenirs people save
. . . pins
. . . snow globes
. . . plastic swords
. . . mouse ears

Did any one check EBay? I have seen ice buckets from different resorts, trash cans towels and towel animals. In the 3 resorts I been in the icebuckets and towels are the same. No names on them nothing saying where they are from. Now the trash can did have the resorts name on it. Now can you figure what shipping would have been of that trash can. :rotfl:

Am I the only one who thinks it highly ironic that someone stole pirate (stolen) booty? Not condoning it, of course ... but it is funny in a twisted sort of way.

Well.. I'm calling poppy-**** on this story.

I know that several sections of Pirates do have the motion sensors and I'd be shocked if that section didn't have them as well.

Of course it's' possible they were moved / turned off during the renovations last year and nobody noticed.. But.. I don't buy this CM's story.

Some CM "explanations/stories" are pretty unreliable have the time on this stuff.
