"Shaving Cream" by Benny Bell

"I have a sad story to tell you.
It may hurt your feelings a bit.
Last night when I walked in my bathroom,
I stepped in a pile of...

Shaving cream, be nice and clean!
Shave everyday and you'll always look keen..."

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Stupid old song.

OMG...yes I do and my husband played it for the kids when they were little. He plays it every once in a while now, but when they were little they would be hysterical!!

My baby fell out of the window,
you'd think that her head would be split
but good luck was with her that morning,
she fell in a barrel of
shaving cream
shaving cream
shave every day and you'll always look keen

Are you sure this was 1975? I remember hearing this all of the time in 5th grade, which would be 73-74. They played it all of the time on CKLW 800 AM in Windsor/Detroit.

I heard this song in '78... I have fond memories of teaching it to my German friends while we climbed the Alps -- we were all singing it by the end of that trip. :teeth:

I have a sad story to tell you
It may hurt your feelings a bit
Last night when I walked into my bathroom
I stepped in a big pile of

/ C - - - / - - G7 - / - - C - / F G7 /

{Refrain}
Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave everyday and you'll always look keen

/ C - - - / F C G7 C /

I think I'll break off with my girlfriend
Her antics are queer I'll admit
Each time I say, "Darling, I love you"
She tells me that I'm full of

{Refrain}

Our baby fell out of the window
You'd think that her head would be split
But good luck was with her that morning
She fell in a barrel of

{Refrain}

An old lady died in a bathtub
She died from a terrible fit
In order to fulfill her wishes
She was buried in six feet of

{Refrain}

When I was in France with the army
One day I looked into my kit
I thought I would find me a sandwich
But the darn thing was loaded with

{Refrain}

And now, folks, my story is ended
I think it is time I should quit
If any of you feel offended
Stick your head in a barrel of

{Refrain}

It hit the charts on 3/8/75 - maybe there was another version released earlier?

I've got the "45". The flip side also contains a song with this type of word misdirection...but not as good as shaving cream.

C'mon now - tell us what the lyrics are and WE'LL be the judge of that. ;)

I just don't know if the effort required to get my hands on the record, and hook up something to actually play the record would be worth it :earboy2:

I'm thinking the title was "The Girl from Chicago"

You could be a moron like me and my friends were when we were kids. We actually thought if we took a sewing needle and held in on top of the record, and then spun the record around in our hands, we could get it to play. Honest injun' people, we tried this. :earboy2:

If any of todays' kids are reading this, they don't have a clue what we're talking about. :teeth:

A few years ago while on vacation, we stopped in Charleston, WV for the night. Went to eat at a A&W/Capt Treachers (sp?) restaurant which had lp's and 45's stuck to the walls and ceilings. Will never forget one of my kids saying "dad, look at those big CD's".

And if I know you, you just let it go. :teeth:

I was very pregnant in 1975 and didn't really pay attention to music. Never heard this song, I think that is a good thing.

You got that right. :)

I remember that song hitting the charts in 1975. but...

I found this info on a lyrics site I got to:

There are more verses to this than you can imagine. In fact, there are an
infinite number. People continue to make them up all the time. First are
the words to the original recording. It was written by Ben Samberg (a/k/a
Benny Bell) and sung by Phil Winston (a/k/a Paul Wynn). It originally
came out in 1946, but finally hit the Billboard charts in 1975!

I don't know where you get these songs from! I was in high school in the 70's and I don't remember any of them.

:rotfl: I not only remember the song, but...Mr. Valentin, my 9th grade spanish teacher, knew all the words!

Senor Valentin es muy :cool2: :cool2: :cool2:

CKLW! We used to get them across Lake Erie in good old Ashtabula, Ohio! Wow, that's a blast from the past.

Was this one of those songs played on Dr. Demento? I do remember this one. :)

Ya a lot earlier, like the 1920's or so. I remember my grandfather saying it was an old song. :rotfl:
