Disney Chase Visa coded my cruise incorrectly

Hello all, I booked the DVC member cruise on opening day… 3-22-25. I charged the entire amount to my Chase Disney Visa to get the 0 percent no interest financing for 6 months. My statement arrived for April and I was charged close to $100 in interest? (I only charge Disney cruise deposits etc on this card.) I called Chase and I had the feeling that the representative really didn’t understand what I was talking about. She more than willingly waived the finance charge but I have a strong feeling I’ll be dealing with this with each statement. Anyone else experience this? Any recommendations? Thanks!

If your April statement was the first statement following the charge on 3/22, there shouldn't have been any interest anyway -- with or without the Disney financing. Are you sure you didn't have some balance remaining from another time, maybe that you had forgotten about - and that carried forward to the interest charge? Interest doesn't get charged in the statement period when you make the transaction unless you've carried a balance.

I would call again honestly and ask to be transferred to someone else if they dont understand.

Also are you calling the number on the Disney Visa site?

Your statement should indicate what the minimum balance to avoid interest is, and indicate the amount that is eligible for the interest free period and when that period ends. I'd look at the current statement and the previous statement to see when the cruise was charged and whether it's listed as part of the interest-free offer, and see whether there are any other charges still active.

As lanejudy said, if you made the charge less than a month before the statement date, you should not owe any interest on it yet, even if it was miscoded. If you made the purchase right before the statement closing date for last month, it should be listed on the previous statement.

If the cruise is not listed as a vacation package eligible for the interest-free offer, then you can call the Disney Visa phone number above to try to get it recoded.

Thank you for the quick replies! So the charge was made on 3-22 and the statement came out on 3-25. It is correct that no interest was charged on the initial statement. It is the 4-25 one that is the issue.

It was charged as DVC travel reserve. I looked back to my charge in 4-2023 for the 5-2024 member cruise and it has the same verbiage. Fortunately that one was coded correctly and I had six months to pay off that cruise.

I’ll be calling Disney Chase at the number on the back of the card. (It was strange when I called previously to thst number. A couple of rings and then someone picked up? No telephone tree?)

Thanks for the advice!

Did you actually get charged the interest amount? Or is the statement simply showing how much that interest would be? I believe credit card laws now require credit card companies to show how much interest would be charged if there wasn't a 0%-financing offer. That amount will be wiped away if paid within the allotted time period; or charged if not paid in full by then.

I had something similar that I noticed this past year. I had a WDW trip, dining/tips, cruise gratuities, port adventures, actual cruise and merchandise purchases.

So all the extras other than the cost of the recent WDW (did have a balance from a previous trip) and cruise payment will not be covered and it could be where the interest is coming from.

I was charged the interest. Luckily the Chase rep waived the interest quickly. However, I had a strong feeling she didn’t know what I was talking about.

I reviewed my statement once again and that entire DVC member cruise amount ($7000 plus) is subject to interest. (Had to pay the full amount upon booking)

Once that waived interest is reflected on my account I’ll call back. Hope this gets resolved easily!

This happened to me last fall with the Destiny first wave booking. I fought for hours on the phone only to get a letter in the mail stating that it didn't qualify. Before I could call for the fourth time, I noticed that Disney Visa reversed and recharged the cruise using the promotional code that was required. Disney Visa was saying it was a DVC issue and that they didn't code it correctly. DVC was saying it was a Disney Visa issue. The woman that I *think* finally fixed it was incredibly rude to me on the phone. It is on our day to day credit card and we pay it off monthly. We got charged interest 2x and they reversed all of the interest charges.
Good luck!
I hope they get it straightened out for you.

I would not call; I would write. The front line customer service reps can be quite variable. and they are incentivized to get you off the phone quickly.

You can also dispute the charge. In this case, you are not disputing the fact that the charge exists, you are disputing the categorization. That has a decent chance of getting Chase and Disney to cooperate.

Does DVC member cruise require full payment upfront? If not and unless it sails within 6 months, why charge full payment on opening day to begin with? Am I not understanding something?

LAX

Yes unfortunately when one books the DVC Member cruise full payment is due at the time of booking. I booked in March 2025 for a cruise that isn’t until the end of August 2026! That’s why I put the charge on the Disney Visa…..to extend the due date of thst payment 6 months.
