Over 200 million people across the globe today are going to hold their breath as they learn the fate of their country.

Today is the the World Cup Finals Draw. Live from South Africa.

Live on ESPN at noon ET, a 90 minute show will start as a live spectacle of the great sport on Earth unflolds.

1 Team from each Pot will be chosen to form a group, no two teams from the same confederation can be selected into the same group with the exception of Europe, which can have two.

Pot 1 is the seeded teams, which includes the top 7 ranked teams in the world plus the hosts, South Africa.
South Africa
Germany
Italy
England
Netherlands
Spain
Brazil
Argentina

Pot 2 contains the teams of North America, Asia and Oceania.
Australia
Japan
South Korea
Korea DPR
New Zealand
USA
Mexico
Honduras

Pot 3 contains the remaining African and South American teams.
Paraguay
Chile
Uruguay
Algeria
Cote d'Ivoire
Ghana
Nigeria
Cameroon

Pot 4 contains the remaining European teams.
Denmark
Greece
Portugal
France
Slovenia
Slovakia
Switzerland
Serbia

Who do you want in your group?
From Pot 1, only the hosts South Africa is an easier draw. They will be playing at home so that will of course help their cause.
From Pot 2, Korea DPR hasn't been at this stage since 1966 when they shocked the world with a Quarterfinal appearance and win over Italy. Honduras is experience a golden age of play but they are one of the smallest countries in the competition and not expected to go far. New Zealand qualified without having to play a team who has ever qualified for the World Cup and are one of the weakest in the field.
From Pot 3, only Algeria, back on the World Stage for the first time since 1982appears weak, but they did see off African Champion Egypt in qualifying. Uruguay had mounds of trouble in qualification and being drawn against the 2-time champion is favorable.
Pot 4 is considered to be the make or break group for the draw. You can split this Pot into two groups, the S's (Slovenia, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Serbia) and the Rest (Portugal, Greece, France, Denmark). You want an S, you don't want the Rest. The inevitable Group of Death is certain to involve either Portugal or France.

Who do you want to avoid?
Pot 1 invovles teams that are seeded and for good reason. These teams outside of South Africa are ranked 1-7 in the World. There is no easy road.
Pot 2 is what will make people jump for joy or scream in agony. On one side you can draw Korea DPR or New Zealand; but on the other side are Mexico, USA and South Korea.
Pot 3 involves many evenly matched African and South American teams, but avoiding Cote d'Ivoire and Paraguay should be on any teams wish list.
Pot 4 was described above, you want an S, not the Rest; but you really want to avoid France and Portugal, two top 10 ranked teams.

USA dream Group: South Africa, Algeria, Slovenia
USA Group of Death: Brazil, Cote d'Ivoire, France

Sit back, relax, cheer and enjoy. Personally I am on pins and needles to see who gets drawn into groups B, G, and H. I have tickets to those games and can't wait to see what drama unfolds at the draw.

We were in Germany (or Austria-one of the two :lmao:) many years ago during the World Cup playoffs/finals--OMG :scared1:. The entire country shuts down to watch the games. Take the Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup and the basketball championships, wrap them all together and it still doesn't come close to the obsession with soccer over there.

I will be rooting for Switzerland as my mom grew up there and my parents home country (Hungary) failed to qualify and no Caribbean team made it.

USA got a pretty good draw- England, Algeria, and Slovenia.

I'm sorry...what sport is this?

Football (or soccer). It is in reference for the Draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals to be held in South Africa

I follow the USA and Italy. The US should get out of their group and if we don't it will be our own fault. Italy quite frankly has a cake walk in the group stage.

It will be an interesting WC. Some games will be at a higher altitude than Europe and the weather will be colder than most World Cups because it is taking place in Winter instead of summer.

While I think Spain have to be the favorites no European country has ever won the WC when it was held outside of Europe.

Can' wait :thumbsup2
