I know this is not the place for this, but I needed this board to know that things are in a turmoil here as well as all affected by this - it appears that the Discovery and her 7 crew memebers has been lost - how well I remember Apollo 1 and then the 7 that were lost in 1986 - Please keep so many in thoughts and prayers.
God bless all of those affected by this.
Always
Shirley

Prayers to the families and all involved! Like you Shirley, the Challenger seems like just yesterday.

Much love
Dan

I think it is Columbia...

Isn't this the mission with the first Israeli astronaut aboard?

Everyone is praying

We just got an alert from CNN that they lost contact at 9am- the alert was at 9:30, hopefully somehow everything will work out and there was just a radio error!

It was Space Shuttle Columbia, the first shuttle to ever go up in space. It was the oldest of the fleet but recently completely overhauled. This is another American tragedy and a tragedy for Israel as well.

from CNN breaking news email

-- The space shuttle Columbia, carrying a crew of seven, broke up Saturday morning 200,000 feet above Texas. More soon

I had so hoped it was just some type of radio error. How sad :(

I am so sorry - it is the Columbia - I, like everyone else, is just so torn up for this tragedy - I witnessed the Challenger in 1986 and the impact of sadness that overwhelmed all of us - all over the world that it just brought back so many memories. thanks for the support and love to all of those that are in grief and fear.
With love always
Shirley

Al the news channels have video of it breaking apart. It doesn't look good. :(

A sad day again for our nation..... Prayers to the seven astronauts and their families.... :( :(

Actually, The Challenger was almost yesterday. January 28, 1986. Kind of strange that it happened again (if not in a different way) so close to the anniversary.

I feel so sorry for the families of the astronauts....

Kathy

This is a major tragedy for all of us, especially for everyone who remembers the Challenger and prior losses.
I watched this launch from the Orlando MCO airport the day we returned from our Disney Wornder vacation. It is hard to believe that it has been lost.

Let's all pray for the family's.

This is so sad. They are showing the astronauts on TV now and footage before they went up. It's heartwrenching.

We were awakened by the loud explosion noise and our windows shook here at our house in Texas. DH ran outside in his boxers to see what the heck happened and then came in and got me and DD to go see the smoke trail. It was scary b/c at the time we didn't know what had happened.

Ah, this is just so sad.

What a tragic thing to wake up to!
We were out late last night, so I just woke up to log on while Tony was sleeping. Now we are both watching the footage and coverage on CNN. What a horrible tragedy! My heart goes out to those poor astronauts and their families. I've always admired their courage...I could never go up in a shuttle.

Here in Eastern Washington state we are mourning the loss of a local hero.

God bless the families.

What a tragic loss for our country.......I remember years ago watching the Challenger explode shortly after take-off. I was on a break in between my classes at the college I was attending, and it really affected me. This also is so heartbreaking.

This is truly a tragedy....it really does bring back the Challenger incident to the forefront again.

I just can't imagine all the family members that were waiting at the landing strip for their loved ones to come off the shuttle....this is just awful...

Again how wonderful that is such a tragic time, there is so much love and prayers - we had the priviledge of making a basket for the Commander of Israel and he was overwhelmed, it was his nation that was being represented by the Israel astronault and Libby from IHOP at Cocoa Beach had the pleasure of waiting on the family when they wanted to try American breakfast - I spoke with Libby and she was so thrilled and so honored - she spoke so highly of them - I know that all those that came from Israel were just thrilled to be able to be a part of the shuttle of 01/16/03. Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee were lost 36 years agoon January 27th during Apollo 1 - this was not in space but at Kennedy Space Center.
Anyhow thanks for the support we all needed during this time of tears.
With love and thought
Shirley

GOD BLESS THE UNIVERSE

I am in shock, we haven't even turned the TV on this morning and I couldn't believe what I was reading here. :(

How incredibly sad, our thoughts and prayers go to the families of the seven astronauts.

I agree with Barb....I admire all the astronauts and the courage of their families...but I could never muster the courage to get on a shuttle.

We thought that Challenger was the worst and now it has happened again. The shock to the nation and the world is insurmountable.

We are waiting word from DH's sisters family, as her death is momentary...but she is seriously ill....she will be better off to go with God now...even though our loss will be terrible...this has been expected for a year now....it will not be such a shock and dh is prepared(as prepared as you can be).

Lets all keep the families in our prayers and Shirley...we love you..

Phyllis
