Which one would be most suited for a younger reader? My one daughter is reading at a 3rd grade level even though she is in 2nd grade. I think she might like one of these books.

There are only 2 of them out right now with a 3rd one due soon. The books are a lot of pictures with words like a comic book so your dd would most likely be fine with them.

Jeff Kinney is a local author and last year he was doing a book signing at our Barnes & Noble. It was the most popular book signing they ever had and the line was all around the store! My kids (then 9 & 13) got to talk with him and get a picture taken. He also let them look through his journal where he wrote and drew a lot of his ideas for the books. Both my kids like to draw and write so that was a lot of fun for them to see. We were impressed with how nice a guy he was to all the kids! :thumbsup2

My DD 10 (4th grade) just finished the 2nd one - she loves these books. I would say, start with the first and if she likes it maybe give her the 2nd one for Christmas.

Both are fine:thumbsup2

Most of the second graders in my school have read them and they all seem to enjoy them:3dglasses

Third one can be pre-ordered now:banana:

You want to start with the first one. My 4th gr & her friends love them. They are pretty easy reads. Your dd's will enjoy them.

My DS8 loves these books. He has read both the original and he did his last book report on the second one.."Roderick Rules". There are actually 3 books out if you count the do-it-yourself diary, which I bought from Sam's, and have the 3rd book on order. My DS reads at about 3rd-4th grade level.

Thanks! I read several reviews on amazon and many mentioned that their 4th graders loved them. My concern was that they might be a difficult read.

I'm not sure my post will go over well with the majority, but I am a teacher that stays at home with my kids for now but try to read a lot of children's and young adults books to keep up with current literature. Honestly, I just don't get the popularity of these books (at least from an adult's point of view). I think they are probably more popular because of the format and pictures they are presented in rather than the content. For a middle school child some of the humor is relatable but especially in the second book, some of the content is not what I would consider humorous nor would I want my kids thinking it was either.

However, whatever gets kids reading is great by me! To each is own.....
and of course, I happen to actually like the stupid humor of the Captain Underpants books, so go figure! :upsidedow

Captain Underpants ROCKS! They are the only books my kids actually laugh out loud to when reading them.

My 7th grade student love them! I can't keep them on my shelf. My 4th grade daughter loved them too!

I am a children's librarian, and the Wimpy Kid books are the hottest thing we have! We have 9 copies and they are never in. At my library I put the books on our 5th to 6th grade suggested reading lists, since the books have some puberty-orientated stuff in them (least from the parts I read!). I love books that gets the kids reading!

My DS started reading these books in 2nd. grade. He LOVES them and will read them over and over. He now has the "Do it Yourself Book" - he just got the soft copy at the Book Fair in school.

My nephew is in the 6th grade and loves these books. He has read both and is waiting for the third one to come out.

My dd loved these books.

Has your dd ever read The Rainbow Fairy series? There is something about these books that girls that age love about them. I volunteered for a reading group at school last year for my dd's 3rd grade class. I had several girls that just couldn't get into reading, especially chapter books my daughter included. We found this series and everyone of my nonreaders started reading them and couldn't get enough. There are several different little series within the series. Gem fairies, pet fairies, weather fairies, holiday fairies.....
