This is just an observation so don't get out the flame guns.

I've taken notice that there are a lot of threads about "I just booked *fill in the blank*. Will I be disappointed?" I'm wondering why the resort was booked in the first place and if 10 people come back and say "yes, that place is horrible", will the poster not go to Disney World? The poster already has a kernel in their minds that the resort is not what they really want and that they are "settling".

I'm all for people finding out all the great things about a resort they have never been to. I'm just hoping that there is a more positive spin on the threads. Like "I've never been to *fill in the blank*. Tell me what you liked about it."

And yes, I always see the glass as half full and never as half empty. Life hands you lemons, make lemonade and all that.

Maybe we should create some sort of basic 'questionnaire' people can use to narrow their options BEFORE booking and then coming here and saying "I booked ___, will I be disappointed?"

For people to go with a resort that has the theme they want to experience. I would pay more to experience the theme that I would like to be immersed in rather than price shop for the lowest deal then hope I like the atmosphere of the resort. Just my humble opinion, but the aesthetics of a resort make a large part of the vacation to me.:thumbsup2 You can't sit at a computer and tell a total stranger they will like any resort, without knowing their individual tastes.:thumbsup2

OP - I hear ya! I'm the glass-full person also and am just always grateful for the choices and the ability to GO to WDW at all..

That said - I think it's sometimes "buyer's remorse", second-guessing and too much anxiety in some folks. I rarely change resorts once I book - tho I'm the nut who left YC after 3 days last summer because it was not for me and returned to our beloved WL!-

I think some DIS'er's need more reassurance than others and I sometimes offer it and sometimes not.

But I agree - there's alot of posts along these lines.. just scroll right on by!!!

But you TRIED the Yacht Club! You didn't book it, then come here and ask for opinions (or maybe you did, but kept your reservation despite or because of the responses). There's gotta be a way to paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen here... "I've been to the Wilderness Lodge; Wilderness Lodge is a great resort for me. You, Yacht Club, are no Wilderness Lodge!" :teeth:

I guess some people really have to have the right atmosphere but I'm always so thrilled to be at Disney that I would gladly sleep in an 8 x 8 room with an outhouse. Where I sleep doesn't seem that important to me. But I also have to say that we never spend any more time in the room than possible. We are up and out early and by the time we drag back to our room we're exhausted and go to bed immediatley. The tv never even comes on.

It could be that people are staying at their second choice resort and are just trying to reassure themselves about it. I haven't posted anything along those lines, but I am in that boat. I was hoping to stay at POFQ and that is booked during our stay, so instead we're staying at CBR. While I haven't asked any questions I've read lots about it and it sounds great (although Im still consistently checking for openings at POFQ!). It really is impossible though for people to tell me (or anyone else) if I'll love it. In fact the main thing I've noticed on this board is that if one person loves a resort the next person will loathe it! You just have to pick what theme you think will work for you and go in with a good attitude!:woohoo:

This is totally me!! The last two times I've gone, we've been more on the poor side so we stayed at Value resorts (and I wasn't disappointed lol). I don't understand why someone would make a reservation and THEN ask if they'll be disappointed?? Isn't that what the user reviews are for on all of the travel sites, so you can figure out how well liked a place is BEFORE you put down money and make a commitment?

I totally agree with all of you. Those threads just irk me to no end. If you aren't sure, then don't book it. If there's a place you really want to stay at, then wait until you can afford it, or compromise. JMHO though.... :)

I wanted to stay at Poly in the worst way, but I can't afford it so I compromised. Most of our days at POP and the last three at Poly. This way I get what I want, and I know I'll be staying at two really cool resorts! I like the looks of all of the resorts except for one ( that shall remain nameless:rolleyes1 ) so I guess I'll just have to keep going back to try them all out. My glass is more than half full!!!

And yes, I always see the glass as half full and never as half empty. Life hands you lemons, make lemonade and all that.

I think there are a few reasons.
1) The dis boards. As much fun as I have here, you guys gotta remember it can be information overload. It use to be you'd book a hotel and that was it. Now you book a hotel, then for the next 6 months you read various information on the boards. Bus service was slow, mousekeeping was horrible. etc, etc. So now the poor person is :scared: &:crazy2:

2) The word "magical". I personally think this word should be forever banned. These days a person has just dropped a couple of hard earned grand on a Disney vacation. Unfortunately, it turns us into crazed, deranged planners who must have the most "magical" disney vacation ever, so now they need confirmation that they have not just blown the equivalent of Bolivas national gross income on a resort they may hate

3) Fear of the unknown. We all have our resort favorites and if we are trying a new one, we don't want buyers remorse or worse. We don't want any DH's saying " I told you we should have went back to____"

The way I look at things there are always going to be posts from those who thought a specific Resort was great and others from those who did not like it. The best thing to do is not to worry about a few bad reviews, because more people like to post negative things that happened. Plus it happens to all the Resorts mentioned on here, so no there is not one specific Resort that is singled out all the time with bad reviews.

You should book where you want to stay, not worry aboout all the negatives because that is not necesarily what you will experience on your trip:thumbsup2

In our case our four year old wants to stay at ASMo in the 101 Dalmations part, which I booked. I do not have a problem staying at a Value, my parents stayed at ASMu and they where lovely little rooms, great theming. I just worry because we have heard it is dirty and noisy. My little girl's heart is set on staying at the "puppy" hotel and we had said it would be cool to stay at each hotel atleast once. I personally just wanted to hear some good experiences and tips for staying there. I also feel to be forewarned is to be forearmed. I would not want to build up something in my head and be disappointed because of expectations. If I get comments good and bad, I have a heads up and know truly what to expect. :)

Like we stayed at POR last year and people complained about the long walks, etc. We loved the lesuirely stroll to the main building, it is a beautiful resort. We had a headsup so we knew what to expect and did not need to sweat the small stuff, which I have a tendency to do, DH is as cool as a cucumber (however, I am the one that plans everything and attempts to have it all run smoothly, so I guess having one's own private personal assistant makes it to where one can be cool as a cucumber...:rotfl:)

It's SO true!

If I've learned anything after 7 years of prowling the DISboards, it's that taste in resorts is a VERY subjective thing. For every single resort on property, you'll find people who think it's the best resort on the planet, and you'll find people who think it's the third circle of hell. :lmao:

I can tell you what I think of a certain resort, but that has absolutely NO bearing on what you will think of it. At all.

I do understand the need to ask and reassure oneself. But, know that if everyone on the board tells you we love X resort, you may still not enjoy it. We all have different tastes. That's why Disney has so many different kinds of resorts.

I agree that opinions on hotels are completely subjective! After spending a million years (in my former life) as a travel agent, I became completely spoiled hotel-wise and extremely picky about hotels!

Of course now that I'm a "civilian", I've relaxed my standards quite a bit :P But still, some people may LOVE the Value resorts while others won't stay anywhere that's not deluxe.

That said, I don't think I'd ask the question "Will I be disappointed...?" because if someone TOLD me I would be, I'd probably carry that idea in the back of my mind and wind UP disappointed. If that makes any sense. I guess I'm trying to say that if you don't think you'll like a hotel and are having that many doubts, you probably WILL be disappointed and should think about staying somewhere else.

Apologies if that makes no sense to anyone. I'm having a horrible day. :/

The internet has done a lot of good, but I think that it has resulted in a lot of false expectations because people have access to information not available ten years ago.

It used to be that one went to the library, looked up in a book (most likely with no photos) the Disney resorts, and selected one. There was no obsessive planning every minute of every trip; one didn't know about all the 'secret' things. But we all most likely enjoyed ourselves.

Now vacation planning here seems to be this giant competition and people seem to feel that if they don't do everything they will not have as magical a trip as everyone else.

I don't often read the trip planning boards anymore as so often people don't seem to be enjoying themselves when getting ready for vacation.

I see where you are coming from disnut.

I go on each vacation with expectations, but nothing unattainable. I also have that half-full glass. I would rather have a Dory outlook on life than a Marlin one I guess. When I start to feel disappointed, I work to change the situation.

My favorite..."here are our cast of characters...wil we like *** or ***???? Please help!!!..."
Trying not to be snarky.....however, there is a wealth of info here on these boards...do a search!!!
Someone may have had a bad EXPERIENCE at a resort, will that mean all potential guests will as well?
No....
Everyone's opinion is based on their own personal experience.
I am a chronic resort changer, I accept it! lol
But how can a group of strangers...(albeit a bunch of Disney loving fans:) ) pick the RIGHT resort, for YOUR family, that YOU know the best? :)

I think there are a few reasons.
1) The dis boards.
2) The word "magical".
3) Fear of the unknown.

Oh so true!! Especially #2. It kills me to read trip reports that go on about what a great trip they had expect that they didn't get towel animals in the room, or that they didn't get that free upgrade they had their hearts set on. What gives with that? For me "magical" is when my oldest boy tells me how totally cool it is to hang out at the Japan pavilion, or when I see the look on my youngest boys face. Check out his picture in my siggy to see my definition of "magical!"

If getting towel animals is magical........;) (If I continue....lol..it will be snarky! :) )

I agree.....the looks on your kids faces is what is Magical!!!
