I noticed 'the Wild' disney film is coming out here next week and it's been on in the US for over a month. It looks very similar to Madagascar, has anyone seen it? What did u think? I have some small relatives who i could take to see it . Alright they're not bothered but i need some little ppl to see disney films! Worth a trip?

Actually The Wild has been out for a while because DH took DS to see it a few weeks ago. DS (4) really liked it but DH didn't think it was all that great. He preferred Madagascar and I think DS likes Madagascar better as well.

I haven't seen Madagascar, but did see The Wild. It was wretched. My DS who is a movie fiend got bored with it half way thru. I never could pay attention to it. Please save your money and wait for "Over the Hedge" or "Cars"

My 6yo and her little friend loved it. It seemed like a cross between Madagascar and Ice Age 2 to me. Not much original.

As I understand it, Madagascar was actually a rip-off of The Wild, but they rushed and got it out sooner. Anybody know the real story?

We just saw the Wild last week and I expected to hate it but actually I liked it! It does remind me of Madagascar but I thought it was funnier.

We were somewhat surprised to like The Wild - we had already seen and purchased Madagascar. The stories are quite similar but we thought the characters were more endearing in The Wild. DS8 loves that koala! Your kids will enjoy it whether they have seen Madagascar or not, I believe. Enjoy!

Wow, that surprises me. I haven't read any reviews, but based on the previews I assumed the movie was really going to be a bomb.

They are nearly identical.

The only difference is the "escaped" character is the lion cub---but man do they follow the same storyboard.

We preferred Madagascar--the penguins were a hoot. The Koala Bear is no match.

It is very very obvious that a storyline leaked--not sure by whom to whom...but if there was no leak or spy--someone needs to be playing the lottery.

My girls loved it--as the paying parent I was a bit annoyed to waste good movie money on it.

I did not like it. Yes, it was a lot like Madagascar, and also had the Finding Nemo father/son theme. BUT I hated the wildebeests. Very scary, dark, and kind of a cult like feeling. They made my 4yo uneasy and unhappy. I posted about this a couple of days ago- why all the movies these days for KIDS have to have yucky stuff in them? She just wants something pretty/happy/cute/fun and The Wild was not those.

wow what a mixed response. I should get more movie reviews from you guys seeing as you get nearly everythin a month before us! Didn't the same thing happen with Antz and Bug's life, where antz out first but A Bug's Life just seemed more polished and ready for release. That one just seemed so obvious that they'd ripped off disney, but madagascar- it was good. I can't believe disney would steal someone else's story- not sure why, just can't!

I also saw The Wild. I thought it was horrible. I could not stand that Koala Bear. My dd(4) wanted to leave halfway through the movie. As much as I hated to waste my money we left. Other people were leaving too. :wave2:

I really didn't like Madagascar but I admit it did have it's moments. I'm looking forward to seeing 'The Wild' but I'm hoping it's not just a complete rip off of Madagascar (Well, it is really isn't it? :rotfl: ) But I guess it will have that special Disneyness to it :wizard: :teeth:

oH yeah--I forgot about the widlebeets. It seemed too Lion King-ish to me. :confused3

I do not rank this up there with Bugs life.

It is almost like Madagascar was the bugslife and The wild is Antz. Like the studios got stuck making each others movie.

This is an excellent analogy for these two films! "The Wild" certainly had it's funny moments, and it's not a bad movie. But Madagascar was the better of the two, in most people's opinions, including my own. Worth the money if you're taking a child, but if you are just an adult that appreciates well done animation and story development...you may want to wait for the DVD.
