Popping in for a quick howdy. Dinner will be whatever I come up with. It's Scott's monthly Geek meeting so I am on my own. Be back later!

Went and had a bone density test today. I take Prilosec and the Dr. said it can cause bone issues. On the way there a man pulled up beside me at a light and told me that my tire was almost flat. :eek: After my appointment I went to try and put air in it and the cap wouldn't come off so I headed to my service place and right after I got there the tire went completely flat. :headache: Unfortunately the tire was torn up so no easy fix, had to buy two new front tires.

Well that is no fun, but I am glad everything turned out ok... Safe is a good thing.

Root Canal this morning. I do feel better. I'm a little swollen, and my gum is irritated, but I am SO GLAD I have it behind me. It feels awesome!

Not sure what is for dinner tonight. Maybe soup.

Gummy bear vodka - that is a sin!

No crown. It was a front tooth. I'm actually eating better than I thought I would be at this point. Having no pain is the best feeling in the world!

Glad you are feeling better... To me when you tooth hurts, there is just no getting over it. Ruins my whole day.

Kat OOOh gummi bear vodka:lovestruc you get a couple of serving of fruit too;)

Brandy I hope I didn't add to your stress. I am a bad patient I hate being sick and out of control.
No added stress I promise... My DH can't hide anything from me if I make him look me in the eye... So last night I asked him how he was doing and made eye contact with him and he said he was "ok" but that it was getting worse everyday leading up to it...

I think thru Christmas he will be ok, but then it will hit.

I know what you mean. When we had to cancel our trip to WDW, I couldn't lament around the house because it caused stress and friction. DIS friends are awesome for venting! Whatever you need we're here!

Wow! Gummi Bears in Vodka, let us know how those work out! I wish we had Sonic in our area. I love tater tots!
Yes, the DIS is a great place, when you are comfortable and enjoy the people.... Some threads I read are no so nice.... others are great!

I'm not planning to do any holiday baking but I am infusing a bunch of vodka :laughing: I also have gummi bears soaking in vodka :woohoo:
.
As for the Gummy Bears....I was reading several different recipes, did you use any juice with yours and did you refrigerate them?

Oh vent away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least you are venting about how to keep DH calm. I generally vent about how to make my poor DH :dance3: I would ask a friend to call David just so that he has someone to talk to.
Thanks :hug:

Last night dinner was so good. I have not made spaghetti sauce in a long time so we really enjoyed dinner. I made those mayo rolls posted earlier and loved them They reminded me of a really good biscuit and they had such a nice crust. I used my stoneware muffin pan.
I am glad that you liked them... They are easy for me and I ALWAYS have everything you need to whip a batch up....

Brandi - thinking of you; all day today. Hope you're fine.

Well...it's Tuesday night over here and I'm catching up on everyone's news. And I'm exhausted. I'm still thinking about food and am a little concerned that I've gone a little bit 'light' on the gifts this year. Anyone else have that feeling that they need to have extras as just in case?

This year, I'm determined that I don't need to spend anymore money and buy more stuff. I really don't want to spend anymore time in the malls.
So......I'm on the hunt for a killer Rum Ball recipe. Anyone have one that they'd like to share? I'm thinking that I could make some next week and parcel them up on Christmas Eve for just in case gifts. If I make them next week, then I won't be tempted to eat them (see above comment about waist line). :laughing:

Keep well all....it's 12 days TIL Christmas.

princess::upsidedow

PIO - Thank you for the warm thoughts....

Wasitline... What is that, I have not seen mine in awhile. Hopefully that changes soon... After my foot heals, I should be able to exercise again...:cheer2::cheer2:

No rum ball recipe here..... maybe the others have one.

I always feel very light on Christmas, I was thinking of baking some gifts to have also...

12 days... really... that is all?.... Oh no.... I feel behind, but everything is done...:idea:

Marilyn - Aside from the tyre issues (and sorry about the cost before Christmas), how did the bone density test go? (Is it your birthday soon?)

It went okay, not sure when I will get the results.

And yes, it is Saturday. :thumbsup2

I feel your tire pain! We had taken the car to have the tires rotated or something like that adn ended up walking out with 4 new ones :headache:Talk about a budget buster!

He did tell me that I will probably need new ones for the back as they have wear on the outside. :sad2: I told him that will wait till tax time.

Dinner tonight will be healthy. I have been eating whatever for the last several days and I feel blah. :upsidedow

Aimee, gummi bear vodka?? :laughing: Just keep an eye on them, gummi bears grow in liquid! When we were in high school, Laura and I worked at a movie theater. We had this lemonade dispenser at the concession stand--one of the kinds that would swirl the liquid around in a big clear tub. Well, we used to put gummi bears in the lemonade and they would grow HUGE! Every once in a while you would look up and see this 6 inch long, four inch wide gummi bear swirling by :rotfl:

Marilyn, sorry about the tires. I hate unexpected vehicle costs!

Ellen, I am glad to hear that Liam is doing well. I hope he gets to come home this weekend!

The coconut shrimp curry was very tasty last night, here is a picture:

WFD tonight: John and I are going over to Whole Foods after work to order meat for Christmas dinner, so we might pick up something there, or else go out for oysters. If we end of coming home to eat, I am craving a vegetable soup.

/
So last night's dinner was grilled Salmon, backed Yukon golds, and roasted Brussel Sprouts...

everything was delish....

While the oven was up to temp and I have over ripe bananas I made bread....

It turned out beautiful, and tasty... I forgot to take a picture... but here is the recipe...

things you will need:
bread pan ( I thought about using a muffin pan but instead stuck with a bread pan)
butter or spray ( I cheated and lined mine with foil so I could just lift it out)
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 stick butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs, beaten
4 large very overripe bananas, mashed (I just use a fork to mash them up)

Directions:
Oven to 350
combine flour, soda and salt ( i put this on a plate...)
In a bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar ( I used my mixer for this part.
Then add eggs and banana's to the butter mix.
Then add dry mix to wet mix, just to moisten
pour into pan, bake for an hour and then let cool.

PIO - No crown. It was a front tooth and the dentist said it is in good shape. Good thing!

liamsaunt - Your curry shrimp dish looks awesome! Such nice presentation!

Its a cool and rainy day here. People are driving like they've never seen the rain. :headache: I think its best if I stay in. I want to run to whole foods and grab a salad from the salad bar. I can actualy enjoy that now. I have also been baking up lots of goodies. Last night I did chocolate chip cookies, cake balls and then some Buckeyes. Tonight I still need to do Paula Deen ultimate oatmeal cookies with a vanilla drizzle.

WFD: cranberry chili meatballs, mashed potatoes, and brussel sprouts. YUM! :love:

Piglitgirl- Glad you are done at the dentist.

Becky- I had no idea gummi bears grew!

Marilyn- Sorry about the new tires. This has been quite a month for us. We had our septic pumped, then the next day we got an oil delivery (3.99/gallon), tomorrow the dog goes to the vet to have a sore looked at that's not healing well. At least while I'm there I can pick up the cat's prescription food! Next week our septic gets tested to see if we need a new leach (sp?) pit. The town requires it because of our constuction. I have yet to hear of a septic passing. Oh, and Christmas presents. I refuse to add everything up, don't think I could handle it!

Brandi- I think I would be like your husband, sometimes I think it's easier to be the patient. I was so grateful when my husband had surgery that it was unexpected emergency surgery, I had no time to worry about it!

Janice- We are having a mild winter too, I think it's going to be a real shock when it gets here.

Vickie- I had a feeling it was a box of jiffy cornbread mix when you listed what you needed to add. When I worked at a bakery, if we overcooked the bread a little, we would call them European dark loaves.

Nancy- Your mantle must look amazing, I love old beams. What a waste of the shed, he probably could have made a bit of money on reclaimed wood. We have a huge piece of holley that we are going to use as part of our counter. My husband has a friend that has a mill, I can't wait to pick out flooring.

PIO- I always feel like I've gone a little light on the presents, but the kiddo never feels that way so I'm trying not to let it bother me this year. We only buy for our parents, siblings, and my nephew. I have a strict $30 limit on each of them, I've found if I take the time I can still find a nice gift for everyone. Since my daughter is an only child, I don't really set a budget for her since there is no sibling to feel the need to make it fair. I just buy her stuff along the way that I think she'll like up until Christmas. Then after she goes to bed and we put it under the tree, I never think it looks like enough but it always is and she's always thrilled with what she gets.

Ellen- So glad to hear from you and even better to hear the little guy is doing so well. Hope Ethan still likes the idea of having a brother.

Chicken of some sort for dinner, I know, a big suprise. I guess it's about time to figure out lunch too. Have a great day all.

Okay y'all, a big :thumbsup2 for the gummi bears soaked in vodka! I just put a layer of them in a tupperware container and poured enough vodka over top to barely cover them. Over a few days time, they soak up all that vodka and grow a bit. Yum.my. I brought a few to a friend at work and we both agreed they are sinfully delicious. The vodka bite comes at the end and burns all the way down.

I'm also infusing some vodka for a few XMas gifts. I'm trying out lemon drop, peppermint, and butterscotch in small containers right now to taste and then will make bigger batches out of the ones that taste good.

PIO - I'm lacking in the gift area because I haven't even started yet :laughing: I'm just in a funk this year and can't get motivated. I am meeting a friend Friday so hopefully she can help me get my butt in gear.

We were going to smoke a chicken last night to eat tonight and I forgot to thaw it... so who knows what's for dinner!

Hi everyone! It's been a crazy couple of days! Alan has finals this week, and he is driving me insane!!! I'll be glad when Wednesday is over, and all he has to deal with is his work! At least until January 4.

Marilyn - I hear ya, on the tires! We drove to see the lights last weekend, and on our way home, stopped for gas. Alan noticed that my front driver side tire had metal threads showing! Yikes!!! We took it in next morning, and ended up with 2 new front tires. Guess that's what I'm getting for Christmas!

PIO - I still have a few presents to get from kids for kids, but I'm hoping to be done by this weekend. I still need to do the baking for neighbors. I've got dough in the freezer, so hopefully that will go fast! Katie is done with school on Friday, so I may turn the baking over to her next week! I'll still do my candy, but she is capable of making the cookies!

Dinner last night was an old stand-by... tuna pizza. Tonight is spaghetti with red sauce.

WFD is pork chops and gravy with noodles

Marilyn and Glynis cars are always in need of something. I just had to put in a new heater motor and then my furnance was giving me fits. Luckily the furnance just needed a good cleaning. I thought I could skip this year.

Becky You must have been quite popular with the boss. I can just see the gummy bear doing the back stroke right now:lmao:

Robin You might need a flavored vodka when you get those bills:eek:

Marilyn and Glynis cars are always in need of something.

For sure. I have recalls on the van that need to be done but haven't had the time to get it in for them. Part of the problem is the closest dealer I am willing to take it to is about 25 minutes away. I wish I could just take it to my normal service place.

Jen - Hope your Monday went great! Do you start vacay at the end of the week or now? Are you and UncleRemus going away? Not long now.

We get out early on Friday. So vacation is technically only 2 1/2 work days away!!! :cool1: We're not going anywhere this year and I'm so glad. It's our first married Christmas, and we can't wait to spend it at home, just our family. Last year we traveled all Christmas, although it was nice. This year it's just us.

I'm with you on the not spending any more money. We tend to do one "big" gift and other small gifts. Once we get the big one out of the way, everything else is a bonus. :lmao:

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reindeer Time!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just making my klist for the Holiday food, never mind shopping for all of the food. ''Our little post office is closed for two hours every afternoon. I always manage to forget adn get there an hour before they reopen :) I know the little post office is on teh to be closed list though :sad1:

My waist line is long gone lately :confused3 Where did it go?????

I am not concerned at all about cutting back on gifts. I used to spend a lot and the tree was buried under the presents. No more. I hate shopping, i hate wrapping and I was always crabby as we got closer to Christmas. Now i get everyone a nice gift, focus on the little ones and am relatively stress free. Of course you have a youngster home so that makes a difference but remember that the best gift you can share is yourself. Enjoy the rest of the season!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night dinner was so good. I have not made spaghetti sauce in a long time so we really enjoyed dinner. I made those mayo rolls posted earlier and loved them They reminded me of a really good biscuit and they had such a nice crust. I used my stoneware muffin pan.

My neighbor buried her Dad yesterday so I sent dinner over to her house along with a bottle of wine I finished yesterday. I think it is going to be a good one, they need time to mature int eh bottle but I shared what did not fill a bottle with the mantle guy and it was already very good.

The mantle looks much better now. The carpenter is coming this morning to remove the stand that is supporting it and add the things to cover the bolts. I have to tell you that the man who gave Buddy this old beam burned the entire old shed :scared1:. These old beams are all hand chiseled chestnut and IMO are priceless.

Dinner is roasted turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, haricot verts and carrots. we will have some of the blueberry poie I made last night, It was not that good :confused3

2 hours is a long time for a lunch! :rotfl:

Waist line, shmaist line. I say my waist looks tiny and shapely next to the size of my derrier. :rolleyes1

I actually told both of my brothers that we had decided we weren't doing adult gifts this year. We wanted to purchase gifts for my nieces, and they could get J and Big C gifts and we needn't exchange gifts among the adults. We all get each other obligated crap, kwim? I'd rather focus on the littles.

I am hopeful today is a better day than yesterday. It seemed I had every goofy person on the phone asking the dumbest questions. I had thought at first someone was playing a really bad joke. The topper was 1 person called for the status of a check I told him we received it and it would be put in the mail for the morning pickup. He called not 5 minutes later and asked what was I putting in the mail? Really?

I need to wrap up the gifts I have to make sure I really am on track. I don't want to run out of paper or not have THE gift under the tree.

Not sure yet about dinner I need to ck out some ideas on Pinterest. Thank Aimee and Jen for feeding my addiction to the computer and stuff of all kinds. This way I can hoard things without messing up my house.:rotfl2:

So far we are having the most mild winter. Yesterday it was in the middle 40's. The same is on tap for today and 50's for the next couple. Don't get me wrong I am liking not having to scrap off the car and shovel. But lets get this stuff out of the way so summer can come back. Spring, summer and early fall are my favorite seasons.

You are welcome for the Pinterest addiction. :teeth:

Dinner last night was an old stand-by... tuna pizza. Tonight is spaghetti with red sauce.

And, what is tuna pizza?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My whole day was thrown off because I didn't get on here this morning. Our internet was down this morning, and I'm now used to coming here to start my day by wishing you all a good morning. I didn't get to do that, and it threw me off. :lmao:
Work was good. More reindeer cookies. My supervisor came over and helped me make cookies with a classroom full of the more severely disabled students. I loved every second of it. I got lots of, "Thank you Ms. Goofyluver's" and "You're awesomes!" from these kids, who are so appreciative and enjoy everything so much. It was worth all of the difficulty. :teeth:
After work, I finally made it to the post office after they closed the door on me yesterday. :lmao: I got to watch a smack-down between a customer and the clerk, an elderly woman who couldn't hear try to communicate with the clerk and everything that ensued from that, and the loss of a package by another customer. It was the most entertaining trip to the PO I've ever had. :rotfl: :lmao:
We had tacos for dinner. They were yummy!
Tomorrow is a new recipe...spicy shrimp over pasta...can't wait.
3 more work days!!!!
Hope everyone is having a great week so far!
Hope things calm down!
And, what is tuna pizza?
Tuna pizza is a really simple recipe. I take a couple of prebaked bread pizza crusts (think Boboli). Then I make a tuna salad recipe and spread that on the crust. Top with cheese, tomatoes, etc., and bake for about 10 minutes until it's heated through. We like it, but others look at us weird when I talk about it.
So, it's like a big tuna melt?
I'd eat it! :lmao:
Glynis- I would eat that pizza too!
Jen- I have no idea how you manage those crafts in a classroom like that. i try to do some with one or two children and it is a bit of a cluster. I cannot imagine with more that two!
we have only spent a few CHristmas's just the immediate family and they were awesome! A blizzard insured that one year and they all spent the night :lmao: This year buddy and I wanted to stay home Christmas Eve. We have never done that but since Gail is hosting a meal and she will not have Mike we are all going to her home. Chris is out of the Marines after ten years so she will be celebrating him as well :yay: This is the first time in ten years all of her children will be home at the same time for Christmas. We usually have at least one deployed and one in Ca. I know that you will enjoy your special holiday!
Welby and made some painted ornaments that were relatively easy so i need to get to Michaels to buy more glass ornaments. Kady and I are going to have a craft day and make some. They are easy but a bit messy
PIO- I used to make a rum ball and they were good but not killer. I got it from a cookbook sold in the market30 years ago.. They were made from cake that was left out all night and then crumbled like the cake pop things we have now. You added stuff and rum flavoring but real rum would have been good. Then they were rolled up and rolled in nuts. They really were good but I am not sure this is what you are looking for. let me know, i still have the book around her somewhere.
Robin- NOW the mantle is nice. i was fit to be tied this morning. The carpenter works with Buddy and he can really work wood when he wants to but he was in a hurry and when he left the screen was jammed in place. I told him it was a problem but he said it could not be fixed. I asked him to talk to Bud. Well he gave buddy a song and dance line so Buddy called a friend who came on his way home from work, dragged in his saws and fixed it with the darn thing still mounted to the fireplace. :worship: I will take a pic and post it on FB after I clean all the stone. It is dusty from the drilling.
Becky- :rotfl::rotfl: I cannot get the picture of a bloated gummi bear floating around :laughing:
Dinner was roasted turkey, green been, carrots and mashed potatoes and gravy. Welby came with the girls after a stressful visit from Jake's Mom. D you all remember Jake? She came with two sick kids and told Welby that the new daycare lady said no children will play with him any more :sad1:I guess he drools all over them still. Mom thought that was normal but is now agreeing to get Birth to Three involved. Thank God. Welby said when he got upset he lost control of his words. Mom thought that was okay for a three year old. Mom is lazy.
PIO- Found it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 pkg Duncan Hines® Moist Deluxe® Butter Recipe Fudge Cake Mix
1 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts
1 tbsp rum extract
2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
pecans or walnuts
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Prepare, bake and cool cake according to package directions.
Crumble cake into large bowl. Stir with fork until crumbs are fine and uniform in size. Add 1 cup nuts, rum extract, confectioners' sugar and cocoa. Stir until well blended.
Shape heaping tablespoonfuls of mixture into balls. Garnish by rolling balls in finely chopped nuts. Press firmly to adhere nuts to balls.
I used to make these every Christmas. easy and good!
