The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Thanks!!! I am happy to be back!

I knew I missed something last night, welcome back.

Wow, the wind is a howling this morning . . . but it isn't snowing. So no worries.

We've been getting some gusts today too! And it is that nasty wet warm out there. Supposed to be getting thunderstorms later today.

All this food talk for the SB makes me want to cook New Orleans food for it too! I may make a shrimp Po'Boy and some Jambalaya.

Congratulations to the Saints!
I read back but stuff is slipping out my brain again, sigh...
Glynis, I hope Timothy starts to feel better soon. Did you end up taking him to see the doctor?
Welcome Michelle!
Ellen, I am glad that the dinner with Amy went well.
Aimee, I would take the first appointment you can get with the surgeon. You will feel so much better afterwards.
Nancy, happy belated birthday to Buddy!
Vickie, a door fell on your head?? I thought I was accident prone!!

Here are some pictures from the past few days. The split pea soup. I tried, but it is...well...kind of gross looking!

Saturday I made a turkey roulade...we thought it was going to be good, but we all have decided that we only like turkey when it is roasted Thanksgiving style.

we also had gravy, mashed potatoes, pureed turnips topped with cripy shallots, and green beans.

Yesterday I made fish wrapped in plantains, with a mango sauce, rum glazed shrimp and roasted asparagus:

I also made a couscous-black bean salad:

Leftovers for my lunch today. I really like these laptop lunch boxes. They save money.:

WFD: vegetable fried rice, baby bok choy, and egg drop soup.

Sounds like the whole country is windy today. We're supposed to get 60mph wind and 2 inches of rain. It seems like it's always windy here, but I could do without that much rain.

Congratulations to our Southern Ladies, you must all be so excited. Now the important stuff, what's on the menu?

Becky- The absolute last thing I need is more containers, but where did you get your lunch box? I love Israili couscous, the colors in your salad are gorgous.

Glynis- I hope today is a better day for the little guy.

Ellen- I'm glad dinner went well and the first meetings are out of the way. Hope that smile stays on his face for a long time.

Laura- My kiddo and Caili seem more alike all the time. No dolls here but the stuffed animal collection is out of hand. She has over 30 giraffe stuffed animals, each with it's own name we are expected to remember. It's sad how good we are with their names.

Nancy- Hoped Buddy enjoyed his birthday and didn't mind having to share it!

I missed a bit here over the weekend, so I hope you are all well. Dinner tonight is sausage, bean, and mascarpone pasta. Hope it turns out okay, just trying to use up a tub of mascarpone.

Enjoy the day all, stay dry and don't blow away.

Timothy, on the other hand, is still yucky.

Katie is in the play at school that opens on Friday night.

 poor Timothy. He must be absolutely miserable.

I hope you're able to find something for Katie to wear - gotta love advance notice for her costume!

Little story, we could not find underwear for her and all she had was those little diapers and one pair of panties. Kady would always dress all of her animals and they all had "clean" undies and jammies and a robe. Kady really wanted MF to have "changes" for her trip so the day before we left I took Kady to my Mom's and she altered several pairs of Kady's panties to fit the doll. I get a little teary when I think about my Mom pulling her machine out and the two of them discussing how the panties shoud fit. Kady was 4 or 5 and my Mom was in her 80's. I really treasure those memories of the two of them.

:sad1:

WFD: vegetable fried rice, baby bok choy, and egg drop soup.

Do you always make your fried rice with leftover cold rice? We bought some pork loin chops and DH was craving fried rice with it but I thought it had to be made with cold rice. :confused3

Also - how do you make your egg drop soup? I could do fried rice and soup sometime this week with that pork...

I think we're going out tonight. I made the last "meal" I had items bought for last night unless I can figure out how to make pork fried rice without cold rice ;) We have a bunch of B1G1 free coupons we can use.

I'll make a grocery list tonight and he can go tomorrow.

Hey y'all, I'm tired, it was hard to fall asleep last night. It's chilly here, I guess hell did freeze?! I woke up this morning & wondered if the win last night was a dream. Yay! It's real, Black & Gold Super Bowl!

I love that we have an international Who Dat Nation cheering our boys! Thanks friends!:grouphug:

I haven't decided on dinner yet, went back to sleep after getting DH off & now I've got to get going to therapy.

Risa, Glad to "see" you!

Lauren, I hope you feel better!

Glynis, Sorry that Timothy is sick. Poor baby. :sad1:

Becky that fish dish looks amazing!!! The couscous looks delish too.

Y'all have a good one!

Happy Monday! Hopefully everyone's week is off to a better start than mine. We live in wetlands and our house is below the water table. Last year we lost power for 6 days and that meant our sump pump didn't work and our (finished) basement flooded. Since then we've installed a second battery backup pump as well. Well today Zachy and I were playing in the basement when all of a sudden the most horrendous alarm started screeching at us. I spent half an hour running around the house changing various smoke alarm batteries before I figured out it was coming from the sump. Called the plumber, their answering service said no one could come for hours. Called a chain service to come right away and overcharge me. In the meantime I give Zachy a bowl of chicken and stars soup to try to eat while the alarm is screeching. Overpriced plumbers show up and I show them to the basement. Come upstairs and my entire floor is coated in chicken and stars. Clean up as best I can and get him more. Zachy then decides he has to go potty just as overpriced plumber comes upstairs to talk to me. He then proceeds to do all of these dramatic groans and grunts and describe in great detail what's going on in there while we try to talk over him (yes the door was closed). Overpriced plumber tells me our sump has to be replaced which is not good news since there's a massive rainstorm going on right now plus melting snow. He's estimating about $900. While I'm trying to process this Zachy yells that he's made a huge poopy and that we have to come see it, I excuse myself and go in, get him dressed and he goes out and announces to overpriced plumber "I want Mommy to put my socks on my "little boy part" instead." I just about died. I told overpriced plumber I would think about it and then called back our regular plumber. They finally got here and estimated it at about $300 but they can't do it until tomorrow and the alarm keeps going on and off. I might be insane by tomorrow and I have no idea what got into my normally shy boy today!

Dinner tonight will be cod roasted with tomatoes over angel hair with asparagus on the side. And wine!

:faint:

Robin- Names and girls go hand in hand :cloud9: Kady used to quiz Buddy because she knew he would never remember them all :rotfl2: but we never told her that for a long time he never could remember Marisa's name......he called her Morris for at least ten years :lmao:

Dinner is leftover roast pork and something. I am trying to undo one month of really good eating so that I can WI befoe the end of the month. All of my leftover sides have butter and cream in them so I will probably gove them to Buddy adn have salad.....again!

Oh, Michelle! I hate to laugh, but your post had me chuckling. Only because I've gone through similar things with my older 4 as they were potty training! Thanks for the chuckle and the stroll down memory lane!

I hope that things calm down for you. That alarm thing would have me tearing my hair out!!!

Michelle - Bless your heart! I hope you get the pump fixed before the alarms and the plumbers drive you crazy.

Laura - 10 sizes?!? :rotfl: You're absolutely right, I am adding that to my running list. So let me make sure I have it all - gargoyle book, fitness tape/book, and top 10 sizes too large. Have I missed anything important? Seriously, has he thought about maybe asking for Becky's help? Not that Kenny is much better usually, but my sister isn't close enough to provide him with any help.

Lauren - Go to the doctor! You've been sick for too long.

Nancy - I'm glad Buddy had a good birthday. Tell him I'm sorry I missed it.

Risa - I'm so glad Marsha Fiona had a good day as well. ;)

Ellen - I'm glad you liked the new girl. And really glad that Matt seems to like her so much.

Glynis - Is Timothy better this afternoon?

Kat, Lauri, Bethany, and Sheryl - :cool1::cool1: Geaux Saints!

I missed the majority of the game last night. One of my Dad's cousins passed away suddenly and I took Mom to the funeral home yesterday to visit with the family. It was a 6 hour round trip, so my day was shot. Not that I minded going. Dad and this cousin were really close and I grew up close to his son so I wanted to go. Mom thought she wanted to go to the funeral, but I'm glad I talked her out of it. Honestly, the visitation was almost more than she could do.

I was planning on going to the gym tonight, but I'm just not feeling it. Hopefully I'll get in the mood on the way home.

Dinner tonight is chicken teriyaki, fried rice, and egg rolls.

Michelle -I have to admit, I chuckled as well. Hopefully it will all be fixed soon.

Glynis - How's Timothy?

I still can't believe the Saints won, they played their worse game of the season. Guess it was just meant to be.:goodvibes

Gretchen, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad's cousin. My sincere condolences to your family.

Michelle, I hope it all gets better quick. My, you never know what these kids are going to say!

OK, off to finish dinner.

Michelle, I'm sorry about the pump:hug:, but your Zach is a riot!! :lmao:

I have to go figure out something for dinner!

Lauren- you need to get to the Dr!

Gretchen- I am so sorry for your loss  I feel so badly for your Mom. My Mom tried to go to services after we lost my Dad but found that she needed to stay away from most. They were way to difficult for her. My MIL is the same way now too. She only goes if she really has to. They stir up too much.
DInner was just okay. I usually like leftovers but today they were just Eh! I am seriously annoyed with Buddy si that might have a lot to do with it.

Michelle Sorry for laughing :rotfl2:. I would have paid money to see the overpriced plumbers face. I always told my son it was a good thing he has gotten to big to throw in the trash. Mine did something along those lines once while shopping. He commented on a ladys posterior being rather large, and why was that. I don't think I could have dragged him any faster.:upsidedow

Gretchen Sorry to hear about your loss

Tonight is spaghetti and meatballs.

Gretchen -I'm so sorry I completely missed your post. I, too, am so sorry for your loss and feel for your sweet Mom.

Quicky...again...sorry !!

Gretchen - Im so sorry for your loss, give yer mum a hug from me.

Marisa - nice to have you back sweetie...:)

Glynis - sorry your wee scone is poorly, sendin bug bustin vibes ower the water..

Lauren - same to you and T...

Was hoping to get my October hotel book tonight but colin threw in a curve ball ( did I say that right lol ) and seems to have found money to take us to my dream place.....

WILDERNESS LODGE !! :faint:

BUT...yeh,there's always a but...my sister has said she is going to try and get too with the bairns and there is no way she could do Wilderness lodge.

The boy would be soooo excited for the bairns to be there,he is so close to them, and he would want to be at the same hotel.

Im siting here swithering but Im sure all you mums know what Im gonnae do.

Oh well, its all part of being a mum I guess....not the good part mind !! :sad1:

Oh and my mum is lookin to come too but thats a whole other problem and I wont bore with it unless I have to.....you have been warned !!! ;)

Michelle that was such a funny story. When my kids were little I would dread service people coming to the house . We had painters come to paint our living room , they moved the TV and found my son's underwear behind it. I think it was Ninja Turtles.
wfd chicken cordon bleu I rolled it in panko bread crumbs and it gab it a great flavor, baked potato and broccoli

So, Timothy is still running like a faucet, and is just miserable. He's now got a white coating on his tongue, and I'm worried about thrush. I'm breaking down and taking him to the doctor tomorrow morning. His fever is not as high as it has been, but he's definitely still hot. He just looks pitiful!

Happy Monday! Hopefully everyone's week is off to a better start than mine.

 I hope you can wait it out for the cheaper plumber...
