The What's For Dinner Thread - March '11 (recipe index in OP)

WFD is restaurant food.:thumbsup2 Hopefully the place is air conditioned. Then on to a Pampered Chef party.

Becky perhaps my Minnie has been in your CSA box. I caught the little thief in my tomatoes last night. I had to put up a barrier, but she moved over to the peppers. Too bad no jalapenos.

Hello, all. It's been a crazy busy day cleaning. I made hamburgers for today's dinner and tomorrow we are going to my parent's house to celebrate Scott's birthday. We are having chicken tetrazini, salad, and bread. For dessert we are having chocolate punchbowl cake.

Thanks again for all of the nice words, you guys. I really appreciate them. It's been awesome catching up with everyone!

How's this weather treating you?

Greetings from the hot Southwest! I shouldn't complain, really, since most of you have the heat AND the humidity. We just get the dry heat!

Dinner tonight will be pasta with mom's Italian meat sauce. For dessert, a lemonade cake. Just found the recipe for it, and it seemed cool! Maybe we'll be daring and eat it outside when the sun goes down.

Stay cool, y'all!

Hey friends, another busy day. I need a vacation.

I worked 10 hours or so today decorating and getting things ready for next week. My back, legs, arms, and head are pounding from all the movement that this body rarely sees  It looks amazing, though, so it was worth it.

I called DH at 7pm and said I was finally coming home and we were going out. I was going to make dinner... but we went to Red Lobster for faux seafood. Food was decent but the service was slooooooooow.

Tomorrow is much slower. And hopefully less productive :rotfl:

It was so hot that Laura and I just made pasta fresca. She says "hi" to you all and will be back on soon.

It is sooooo hot and the air is just thick and gross. I can't sleep. I have already cleaned my refrigerator (I call it Compulsive Condiment Cleanup), cleared out and checked my pantry, sorted laundry, and assembled recycling, etc.

I know you ladies in the south are laughing at me now. That's OK. I am really not used to this thick humid heat. Heat on its own is OK, and humidity at a lower temperature is OK, but the combination of the two is just not my kind of weather. I'm not sure if I would rather be buried in snow again, but I am considering it.

Holy Heat Wave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is 80 already and feels like the rain forest here! I wanted to finish helping Gail move...........yes, she still had 4 full trucks filled yesterday and one 600 lb bear. Dan managed to squeeze the rest of her yard ornaments, container plants and assorted stuff in. Thank goodness Buddy has an 8 ft bed on that truck! I was afraid to move the ladders so they are all at Daniels and he is storing her pots and garden stuff in his empty shed. He laughed and said that it all probably came from there in the first place....he bought her house when they all moved 4 years ago. Mike had purchased this gynormous bear for Gail and she could not take it with her so one of her neighbors is giving it a good home.

Girls- I don't know how much more my poor sister can take. She has been babysitting Debbie's Otto and has had "visiting rights" since he was a pup. Deb was taking him home Wednesday and stopped to get his nails clips. The tech found some lumps under his little arms and on his neck. Gail had told Deb that he has not been himself for about a week and that she felt a vet check would be necessary. She wondered if all the moving commotion was bothering him. She sent Deb on home and took him to the vet and he has lymphoma with 4 to 6 weeks. :sad1::sad1::sad1: Otto is the sweetest little beagle :sad1:

Well I am working today and tomorrow so my cooking is going to be on the grill and turned into a salad. Last night was grilled chicken, grilled veggies and a mixed green salad.

 Hope it works out for Otto and your sister.

I feel for all of you in the heatwave. If you find a way of shipping 25 F downunder, let me know. We're in the low 50s right now.

I just wanted to tell my Midwest and southern friends to try to stay cool. We are sweltering here so I cannot imagine what you all are feeling.

Glynis-I would love the lemonade cake recipe. I cannot have it but Buddy loves lemon anything.

Princess- Thanks for thinking of my sister and the pup. :grouphug: Buddy and I were just talking about how your winter comfort food is the opposite of what our summer heat wave food. :rotfl: I am not a traveler so I am still enchanted with the idea of the opposite seasons.

Becky- I sure do understand that heat/humidity thing :rotfl2:. I have not had a good hair day in a week! Yesterday I must have looked like &#@&@# because I wanted to fuel up the truck before Buddy saw the gauge on E. (Notice how good I said "FUEL and not GAS??????? He lives in fear i will not put Diesel in the tank if I say gas:confused3) I had not showered yet because I knew if I stepped foot in the house I would never make it back out. He has a 38 gallon tank on that thing so I gave the clerk $100 and he said that he hoped it would pump fast so I could get out of the heat and I said a few more minutes would not matter, I had been out moving all day. The two clerks offered me ice cream on the house :goodvibes which was nice but I wondered how awful a gal has to look in order for two sweet kids to take pity on her :scared1:

Please tell Laura I miss her!

How's this weather treating you?

It's insanely hot here. I can't complain though, because I was watching a youtube vlog the other day and someone from Pennsylvania was saying that it was 100+ there. We are hovering in the mid-90s. I admit, I have become a hermit and stay indoors as much as possible :)

Nancy Try not to think about it, free ice cream is free ice cream.;) I will say a special prayer for Otto. My step mom lost her cat right away after my dad died. He gave her the cat( he always called the cat my step sister) for mothers day one year.

Becky I don't do the humidity well either. Summers for us always includes humid weather.

Well today should only be with a heat index of 100. Thats loads better than 110.:rolleyes1

We had an extremely loud thunderstorm move through a few hours ago. It only made it more humid.

I bought some new toys at Pampered Chef last night I only wanted a couple of things. I got a free item cause I spent a few more dollars then I planned.:angel:

Last night, I went out to dinner with my work colleagues at a restaurant called The Italian. I'm still in a food coma...so much so that I didn't have dinner tonight!

We started with drinks at the bar...

Champagne, which was great because I need a scavenger hunt picture for the category "Bubbles"...

Gin and Tonic...."Imbibement, My favourite".

2011July21145.jpg

A number of my colleagues also enjoyed the Spritz over dinner.

We meandered over to our table and placed our orders. We had antipasto for starters to share....my colleagues destroyed the plates before I could take any pictures...but I got a shot of the calamari. It was delicious and so tender!

2011July21158.jpg

For each course, we had a number of options to choose from and I've taken as many of the different options as I possibly could without seeming like a food paparazzi!

Primi

Rigatoni with braised lamb shoulder and rosemary

Porcini Risotto with mascapone and pecorino

2011July21161.jpg

Zuppa di Pollo

2011July21162.jpg

Secondi

Wild Barramundi, with borlotti beans and spring onion

Okay Princess! It should be illegal to show a carb starved woman tiramisu, fried anything, pasta that shimmers or cocktails that pretty! :dance3::dance3:

Hoping everyone is staying cool and indoors as much as possible. I can’t imagine having to work outside for a living under conditions like that.:sad2:

Lindsay – Happy birthday to Scott! I hope he enjoys his birthday dinner.

Janice – You’ll have to let me know if Pampered Chef has any cool new stuff!

Aimee – You work so hard it makes me tired.

Becky – Glad to hear Laura is well and can’t wait to hear from her! I’m not laughing at you at all. I GET IT! I’ve lived here all my life but I’m my Daddy’s girl, he was from Minnesota…I love cold weather and hate the summer.

Nan – My heart goes out to your sweet sis and Otto. Not sure if you remember my Sammie was a beagle. I will keep them in my prayers.:sad1:

Princess – Those pics made me gain 5 lbs. WOW!!!!!!!

WFD – Going out, not sure where yet! Heading out to the gym and then a pedi/mani later today.

Well we canceled most of the festival tomorrow, just going to do the evening bands. Most of the entertainment in the early part of the day was dancing and physical demo type stuff and at that time they would have been in full sunshine. :dance3::faint::sick:

I walked out of the house this morning at 8:30 and :scared1: it was already 92 and humid, felt like being in a sauna. It's been hot this week but not this bad.

Good morning! Well all that cleaning last night tuckered me out and I was able to sleep after all. So that was nice.

Nancy, I am sorry about your sister's dog. Such a shame. I love beagles they are so cute.

Princess, great pictures! Especially all those frosty looking beverages! What, it's only 11 AM? Oh, OK. I'll take the barramundi then.

Lindsay, is it Scott's birthday? Then Happy Birthday to Scott!

WFD: John is getting home from Barcelona in time for dinner, but it is so hot I am planning something simple: bbq turkey burgers, sliced tomatoes, and corn on the cob. I figure I can't compete with all of the excellent food he's been eating over there this week anyway. ;)

Mike had purchased this gynormous bear for Gail and she could not take it with her so one of her neighbors is giving it a good home.

.

just when I think Ive heard it all fae you lassie ye pull this oot the bag.....:rotfl:

Like a proper one,for like a meal !! :cool2:

Oh, I am so sorry. Poor little Otto

Princess - that meal looks amazing!!!!

We are FINALLY going to see Harry Potter tonight!! It was our first opportunity and I'm dragging my dad along with us. He hasn't really seen any of the others but a coworker told him that he'll enjoy this last one even without knowing much backstory. He's just along for the ride.

Before we go, I'm grilling beer and molasses NY strip steaks, zucchini wraps with goat cheese and olives, and onion straws. Oh - and skillet peach cobbler.

Real healthy, huh?

I haven't cooked anything in several weeks so I thought I'd go big.
